The developer clearly has its work cut-out explaining to average users just how the game's constant interaction with PC MMO Eve Online will actually work.
But before it can do that, the developer also needs to efficiently explain the game's unique payment model. Starting with an initial $20 'cover-charge', players will be rewarded with in-game currency that can be spent on items in-game. Once this currency has been depleted, players will be given the option to play for free or purchase items for a small surplus.
[The] download gets you the game client plus a bundle of virtual currency which has the equivalent in-game value of $20, the developer told Joystiq. So youre basically getting that bundle of cash that youre using to start the game, and from there if you choose to play for free and just grind, youre welcome to do that. But of course we know a lot of people will convert.
Bought currency items and non-currency items can be freely exchanged between the players. It avoids the buy/win problem that some microtransaction-based games have.
Dust 514's due to launch on PlayStation 3 next Summer. A PlayStation Vita version is also in development.
