And true to his word, GT5 has received updates on an almost monthly basis, fixing issues and implementing new features that players requested.
Now, on October 11th, Gran Turismo 5 will get its biggest update to date. Spec 2.0 will include a variety of headline features, the most notable being the inclusion of a cock-pit view for each of the game's "Standard" tier cars. Brand manager Penrose Tackie observed that "the level of detail will vary from car to car", but regular players will appreciate what a big inclusion this really is.
But that's not the only tweak. Players will now be able to save during endurance races, meaning they can return to the fray at a time of their choosing. There'll also be 11 new NASCAR vehicles, in addition to tweaks to the game's weather system.
A bunch of backseat features, including improvements to the AI and the further optimisation of load times, will also be included.
"The coming Gran Turismo 5 Spec 2 update is an update that contains the feedback from the users playing GT5 online every day," said Polyphony Digital's Kazunori Yamauchi, "We have added cars such as the newest NASCAR race cars, but many of the updates are those that improve usability and expand the field of game play. I believed from the initial release of Gran Turismo 5 that it would be the users that would make the game grow thereafter, and we added things like interior views for the standard models because there was a lot of request for it from our users. You could say that this update is the shape and form of GT5 that was created through the opinions of our fans."
Sony also took the time to confirm that new DLC is on the horizon for Gran Turismo 5, with new tracks and vehicles forthcoming. Exciting times, then.
