Sony’s a dab hand at needle work, so it’s little wonder that the platform holder is working on a new LittleBigPlanet game for the PlayStation Vita. The head of the company’s French division Philippe Cardon revealed the exciting tidbit, hinting that we should expect more excursions to craftworld on the manufacturer’s flagship handheld.
Chatting with regional publication Pockett, the executive said that Soul Sacrifice and LittleBigPlanet would drive the system’s sales this year. Asked to clarify, he confirmed that he was talking about a new Sackboy story, rather than 2012’s stunning release. However, as VG247 points out, Cardon also revealed that the console would land a Monster Hunter game in its first year on the market.
If true, though, there could potentially be two LittleBigPlanet titles currently in development, with Sumo Digital also rumoured to be working on an entry for the PlayStation 3. Are you excited for more burlap buccaneering, or do you think that the series deserves a rest? Let us know in the comments section below.

New IP or very good ports would be better.
Vita has a great LBP game. Patch it (hurr hurr) if need be. But make something else- an 'Ultimate' MotorStorm game for example! An better Resistance game. A Socom game, new Destruction Derby, Colony Wars?
I thought there was one already isn't it a bit soon to make another one?
No need for one. Unless he means a Vita version of LittleBigPlanet Karting? The two Mario Karts on DS and 3DS did wonders for those systems.
The first has sold terribly, so I expect this to completely bomb, if true :/
My mate who knows a bloke ..... says the next LBP will come with a sack boy suit in the box, you have to wear whilst playing because its the controller, jump and sack boy will jump wave and ....well you get it ..... true story.
@naruball Has it?
@rastamadeus LBP Karting was crap. We certainly don't need a port of that.
Forget another LBP, put Puppeteer on the Vita.
@KALofKRYPTON Yes, it was. But with a little work it could be good and good kart racing games do sell.
@rastamadeus
Perhaps. But they'll never be Mario Kart. The DS and 3DS Mario Karts are pretty much 'must haves' on the systems. Total no-brainer purchases. Mario Kart never fails to sell bucket loads.
@KALofKRYPTON Ds version was even better than the wii version IMO.
Still i hope sony does some more work to attract other developers. Price drop for the west is a must
@Sanquine I agree. No doubt the inevitable Wii U release will be worth a go too.
Like most people with a Vita- I love mine, it's a great system, I love the games I have (well, not Doctor Who) and just want more.
I appreciate Sony's great strides in wooing the indie developers, and as a knock on gamers in general. But we still need big releases from big studios- first and thrid party over a variety of genres.
For me, Sony should be leading the way in showing off what AAA 'big' games can be like on the Vita. Indies will be the future 'big' developers no doubt, but the current big ones need to be courted too.
Wow! What could compare to an announcement like? How about having my right leg sawed off? How about having all my teeth plucked out by a 6 year old kid who was simultaneously telling me an incoherent story about the last time they played Pokemon?
Vita is incredibly thin when it comes to AAA titles. I'm glad to see Sony wasting serious time and resources to develop a new LBP game, which is inevitably just a reskinned version of every other LBP
hmm hope its not true spend the time on other old IPs is so much better...
Ugh, enough LBP already
If it's as good as the first LBP Vita, then I'd totally grab it. Though it does seem awfully soon for it.
LBP on the Vita was good. But I did think the LBP brand is getting old. They need to give it a rest a few years.
Yup. I know vgchartz numbers are not always reliable, but they claim that it has sold less than 400.000 units, which for a lBp game is pretty terrible http://www.vgchartz.com/game/70952/littlebigplanet-ps-vita/
Do vgchartz numbers include PS Vita digital downloads ? Sony states that 1/3 off all Vita owner prefer downloads. So maybe the numbers are closer to 600,000.
@brendon987
No they don't track digital sales, but despite claims from Sony, digital sales are far from that good (there are a few exceptions with undershipped titles in Japan). I followed the eu top 10 (or twenty) of psvita titles on the ps store and lbp never did well. I guess there's series fatigue at this point. I haven't bought it either, as I'm sure it will be given for free on ps+ some time soon.
@naruball Series fatigue is exactly the correct term. Look at God of War.
any word on a review for the Marvel Arcade pack? it's kinda neat
I'm still hoping the Vita is going to get versions of Project X Zone and Bravely Default. Although that I suspect would involve Sony throwing tonnes of money at Sega, Namco, Capcom and Square Enix. The first game will likely never happen as it's co-made by Monolith, who are owned by Nintendo but you never know.
Who cares about vita. Give us a new LBP game for a PS console that actually counts. PS3.
