The PlayStation 4 has had a pretty smooth launch, all things considered. A few technical hiccups have been well and truly masked by the system's impressive sales figures. But one crucial question remains unanswered: will Sony replace a PS4 that has been infested with insects?
The short answer is no, it won't. Twitter user BrendanSinclair was unfortunate enough to receive a faulty unit at launch, and was sent out a coffin to return his busted system to the platform holder. Inside was a sheet of instructions that make it absolutely clear that the Japanese giant is not interested in replacing machines that are crawling with critters. Weird.
Is your next-gen console swarming with creepy crawlies? Does this draconian policy really bug you? Give us your ant-ser in the comments section bee-low.

@get2sammyb Don't encourage me...
@k_andersen Haha.
This is some next-gen punning right here.
@ShogunRok We're happy to announce that these puns will be receiving a launch day up-res patch that will turn them into real jokes.
what about my de-bug console ?
So we shouldn't send them any ps3s? : )
lol but srsly, oh, really? Japan, an island nation, doesn't want disgusting foreign pests and parasites infesting their beds and food and lives? Hawaii used to not have rats, snakes, mosquitoes, or even their famed cockroaches.
I understand why they wouldn't want to do that, I got a slim ps3 this year from the pawn shop though and it was being loud and getting hot real quick unlike any other ps3 I've had so I decided to open it up to clean it and that boy was infested with dust and roaches. I had to clean my whole living room and upstairs after finding that out and went and sold it on craigslist asap.
Does it make a difference if they're chocolate covered insects or not?
Thats it I am taking back my PS4 and getting an Xbox One. That is just B.S. on Sony's part. I like to play my PS4 in a dank hole in the ground and of course there are all kinds of creepy crawly things there. This is just bad of them. I am done with Sony. MS FTW.
It would have made sense for Sony to use red lights as these are invisible to insects. Blue light attracts insects? Foot. Shot.
Maybe it's a joke on Sony's side? Or maybe they're just preparing for the inevitability that is someone returning their "buggy" console.
@Cloud7794: More like its a CYA move by Sony for when some one returns a "bugged" console and Sony refuses to replace it.
I see what you did there sammy! xD
Sony continues its anti-consumer policies against those who have infested systems >:[
Maybe Microsoft should start an Anti-Sony campaign that says "We'll replace your console if it's full of critters, unlike mean ol' Sony"
Don't joke, you guys. This can - and has - happened! [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYcFXLZI8zE]
It's possibly a little joke on Sony's part, but who knows, they could be serious. Who knows what kind of stuff has been found when receiving returned consoles in the past. If so, I don't think they're saying they won't replace "buggy" consoles, just that if your system is crawling with life you should delouse the sucker first before sending it in. It's already borked, so I guess there'd be no harm in spraying it down with Raid if that were somehow necessary.
