DriveClub’s delay may have been disappointing at the time, but it’s allowed Evolution Studios to transform the next generation racer into something special judging by the recent batch of trailers that the Runcorn-based studio’s released. Of course, that means that the conversation’s shifted to considering the exclusive’s deploy date over the past few days – and it looks like it could be parking up in February if a Japanese launch schedule is to be believed.
During the manufacturer’s PlayStation Awards earlier in the week, the firm took a moment to share the software slate for its next generation system, which is due out on 22nd February in the Land of the Rising Sun. Among those titles was the abovementioned high-octane excursion, suggesting that the platform holder won’t make you wait too long to wrap your fingers around the title’s lovingly crafted selection of steering wheels.
There’s no word on whether this is going to be a global release, but we reckon that an Early 2014 launch would make sense. With the schedule looking a little dry after Christmas, the 2.1 million owners of the next generation console will be gagging for something fresh to play in the New Year. Dropping this right when people are feeling a little twitchy makes a lot of sense – and along with inFAMOUS: Second Son, it should ensure that the PS4 eschews any content lulls.

im already bored of my ps4 lol
So, nothing to play till February? T___T I can deal with it, but I thought that Drive Club will be realesed like in Christmas.
@Gemuarto @TOMBOY25 I wished I had as much time as you guys - there are still all of the launch titles to enjoy!
@get2sammyb I still don't have PS4, hopefully will grab it 10th of December. And I don't care about ACIV, NFS, Battlefield and Call of Duty. So only Knack, Killzone and a couple of indies for me. Speaking of japanese launch, really want Ryu ga Gotoku: Ishin to cross the border =).
@get2sammyb I know, right? I'm < 20% done with all my ps4 games. I just bought Ni No Kuni, KH1.5, Valkyria Chronocles and ZOE hd collector's cause I didn't even have time to play them yet: )
@get2sammyb Sony's early 2014 line up is looking pretty meaty now, I think MLB 14 is due to release in Jan (more of a big deal in U.S.). Driveclub in Feb, Infamous in March, FF XIV in April & then Diablo 3 (Which I believe is at least a timed next gen exclusive, heard nothing about an X1 version). And when you throw in Destiny & Watchdogs which will be heavily marketed as been on PS4 then things will be looking in very good shape.
Yeah I beat both KillZone and Resogun so far. Both titles I loved and still play. Gamefly'ed NFS Rivals, which is an alright title. Just bought AC 4 black flag last night and I'm actually surprised with it so far. The graphics are good and the story is beginning to pull me back into the franchise again. (the AC3 lost my interest) all in all I'm excited for 2014 and think renting the rest of the launch lineups and my brand new PS Vita with remote play functionality should hold me over until then.
Still haven't finished AC IV: Black Flag, due to A Link Between Worlds drawing my attention away from other games, but I do plan on getting back into it soon. I haven't hit that post-launch boredom yet and fortunately it seems like by the time I get close to that Sony will be readying some games. It may not be an exclusive but I believe Thief is due in the early part of Feb. and I absolutely can't wait for that, then given work and everything, by the time I'm done with Thief, the wait for inFamous: Second Son won't be too long.
But on topic, I really hope Evolution makes me eat crow. I'm still worried about this game because it just baffles me that a studio that only works on racing games couldn't get one done in time for launch when it had well over two years to do so and in that same time Guerilla delivers two quality Killzone games. Given what I saw and the fact GT 6 is releasing soon, Sony probably made the sensible call in delaying DriveClub, I just hope it pays off.
@Gamer83 Guerilla and Gueriila Cambridge made two games. Also, you must take in consideration that Drive Club is whole new IP with engine and conception build from scratch, while Killzone isn't.
@Gemuarto
I do take all those factors into consideration but I still think given all the time they've had this game it should've been done. A quality release is most important though and clearly more time was needed. While I'm not optimistic, I guess I shouldn't be overly negative either because I've liked every Motorstorm game that Evolution made so it's not like we're talking about a bad studio, that's why I was surprised when DriveClub wasn't looking so hot. True it's a very different game but being a high quality developer I have great expectations for games from this team.
