Former favourite Duke Nukem looks set to hop out of his deathbed and onto the PlayStation 4, as an assembly of savvy series fans have managed to translate a block of “alien text” hinting at some form of next generation entry in the divisive franchise. Fascinatingly, according to the cracked correspondence, the title will adopt the guise of a top-down action role-playing game, rather than its usual first-person format. Weird.
“The King makes his next-gen debut in Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction, a top-down action RPG for the PC and PlayStation,” the message reads. “Duke Nukem kicks ass across planets in an Unreal Engine-powered galactic adventure to save the President from an apocalyptic alien threat." Allegedly, the title – in production at Interceptor Entertainment – will include “series-first mechanics” such as “experience points and tech trees”.
It looks like the release will be officially announced later this month, too, as a teaser website dubbed AllOutofGum.com includes an image of the potty-mouthed protagonist’s favourite ‘Kick Ass’ branded bubblegum and a countdown to 25th February. Of course, it’s not the first that we’ve heard about the game, as last December it was revealed that franchise creator Scott Miller was working on a new title for the PS4 with the abovementioned developer.
Do you think that you can stomach another adventure starring the industry’s most offensive character, or did the disastrous Duke Nukem Forever sour you on the series indefinitely? Turn the air blue in the comments section below.

Hmm forever was down right awful but I would need to see the game first before I make any decision on it
The thing to note here is that it is being developed by Interceptor Entertainment. They were responsible for the greatest re-boot of an old-school shooter yet - Rise Of The Triad. Unfortunately, that game is PC exclusive for now, but i assure you, it brought back everything i had loved about the old-school shooters and put it all into a modern engine without compromising a thing!
I said to myself many times whilst playing it that this is exactly how a new Duke Nukem should of played.
Granted they are not making a new FPS Duke, i think this is because Triptych Games (a subsidiary of GearBox Games who now consequently own the duke license) is currently cranking on that one, but this could still turn out to be a fantastic Duke title (remember, Duke began as a side-scroller!) due to the developers knowledge and background....Plus, Scott Miller, one of the original Duke creators is also on board with it.
Also worthy of note is that Interceptor Entertainment began life making a fan-made remake of the original Duke Nukem 3D which was fully licensed by Gearbox and to be released for free on PC (insiders say Gearbox shut it down when they saw how great it was compared to DNF).
Anyway, it is only on PS4, console-wise, too! This is a great thing! Very excited for this one.
A top down action rpg? I have no hope for this.
Il wate to see gameplay befor i make up my mind on this... DN F was rather bad... shame there was some fun bits to it. But as this is a difrnt tipe of game it may be ok.. althow im not a huge fan of the top down shooter gameplay again il wate till i see some gameplay.
Hay @get2sammyb wasn't there supposed to be a Duke Nukem game for Vita?
@DaftPlayStation It was heavily rumoured, yes: https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2013/08/rumour_duke_nukem_3d_megaton_edition_chewing_gum_on_vita
Doesn't sound like my bag baby, but I will wait until I see gameplay until I start to bash it.
It can't be worse than forever right?
@get2sammyb Oh yeah thanks I forgot about that article hope it wasn't just a rumour
This could turn out to be good 1) it's not a 15 year old game it''ll be bang up to date gameplay wise and visually.
I like duke well enough, so long as we hope the last game knocked some sense into whoever is developing it this time.
I will wait on Reviews/fans option before I touch another Duke Nukem
I can't wait to play this in 2026!
