FIFA 15 is a bit like a Jose Mourinho team at the minute: stubborn and utterly unbeatable. Despite the release of Alien: Isolation and DriveClub last week, neither could unsettle the soccer sim from its perch at the top of the UK sales charts. The former debuted in second, which may disappoint publisher SEGA a little seeing as it deployed on a Tuesday, while the latter entered in fifth.
In fact, we’re quite impressed by the Evolution Studios developed racer’s performance. With a PlayStation Plus subscription, it was much cheaper to buy the game digitally – and we would have assumed that most gamers would be waiting to try the delayed demo version before giving the retail release a spin. In that sense, we reckon that Sony will be pretty happy with the title’s performance.
Either way, it was a familiar story elsewhere on the charts, with Destiny and MineCraft rounding out the remaining top ten positions. Last week’s other major release, Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition, entered in 12th, which, honestly, is a miracle, considering that no one knew that it was even coming out. First rule of driveclub is don't buy driveclub, second rule of driveclub is can't buy driveclub, third rule of driveclub is where the *#@% is driveclub.
Not bad number 5 for DriveClub. Didn't even think it would make top 20 the way it's all gone last week. I am just waiting for the PS PLUS version & will buy it soon(when cheaper) because i buy nearly all PS Exclusives whatever the internet say about them(i.e mainly negative pointless stuff normally)
Just a shame that FIFA 15 isnt getting the same bashing for poor/unplayable online play that Driveclub is getting. EA are a so called Triple A publisher as such their servers are terrible. There is terrible lag across all platforms with the latest incarnation of FIFA redering The Ultimate Team, Online play and Weekly Challenges unplayable and the only way to play the rest of the game is to disconnect from PSN completely. Other than that its a good game but i feel EA should do better as last years version played fine.
@Carl-G this
To be fair Driveclub is the type of game that tends to do reasonably well in places like the UK, Europe & Japan cos of petrolheads. So it's pleasing that it's in at 5. If it stays in the top ten for a couple of weeks then it would have done well.
@jaydb1982 The reason it isn't getting the same bashing is because the majority of people aren't having problems with FIFA while the majority ARE on DriveClub. Massive difference. I've had FIFA since day one without any online problems (few trophy glitches though) while I still can't get my glorified DriveClub demo. I've also not heard a single person complain about Ultimate Team or challenges. Online play (no problems for me personally), yes but not the others.
All I'm bothered about is that people would rather football than Alien. The UK angers me.
Fifa the same ship different year still sells, I don't get it, I have one fifa game and that's all I want. Surprise Driveclub did well considering so so reviews, and the iffy launch, but hey I'll try the demo, the crew looks way better.
@rastamadeus you are lucky that you get no lag but there are a large number of people out there not only in the UK but in many other countries including the US that are unable to play while signed in EA servers. I know a few friends who have the same problems. The reason im comparing this to the Driveclub situation is that while yes i agree with your minority/majority point but the sales of fifa 15 across several platforms who suffer this lag is probably larger than the number of total people who have actually PAID for a copy of Driveclub (ps plus subscribers, including myself, moaning dont count as its basically a freebie and we are not putting money in the developers pockets unless we upgrade later) also this is Evolutions biggest venture to date so its a learning curve for them whereas EA are one of the largest/richest publishers in the world producing annual games that are always top sellers therefore their servers/set up/products should all be produced to the highest standard and not put out half finished products and rely on patches and updates to provide the finished quality that should have been included out of the box (the last Battlefield was a prime example). I too didnt expect the problems that Driveclub has suffered from and am waiting for the PS plus version but as its basically a free game ill just wait for when its available as unlike fifa it wont become outdated by the next incarnation within the next 11 months. Thats my opinion.
