There's a whole lot of data that needs to be transferred between Project Morpheus and the PlayStation 4, so it's perhaps not surprising that the platform holder's committed to a wired connection for now. For those of you that haven't been following the latest news regarding Sony's snazzy headset, it will boast a high resolution OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. This, according to Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida, rules out wireless support for now.
Things could still change prior to the device's 2016 launch, of course, but the affable executive added that the hardware is now "pretty much done". It'll still be making lots of "tweaks and improvements" to the unit in the lead up to its launch, but you probably shouldn't expect any sweeping adjustments. The feedback on the actual technology has been pretty good during the Game Developers Conference this week, so now it needs to announce some actual games that support it.

This doesn't surprise me. But it's funny how none of the photos I've seen of the Morpheus show a cable. Even the one in this article would appear to be cable-free!?
Nail in the coffin number 1.
Not surprising at all, as of now there's too much latency with wireless connections so the slight delay when you move your head to it moving could make a lot of people motion sick easily. Things could change by a 2016 release I spose, but I doubt it. Not a big deal though! The way they design these VR headsets they actually do a good job of keeping the cable out of your way!
So basically Sword Art Online.... I don't wanna die!
@Radbot42 oh nooooo! Haha. I Don't think we'll die of someone holding us captive in virtual reality. More like dying due to getting tangled and hitting our head on the coffee table because it tripped us
Yeah, I figured this much. Just hope they provide a long, durable wire. Would be nice if they used Razor's cable design, which prevents it from knotting.
Headphones need to be plugged in too, so there'll be a lot of cables hanging around your head.
Another reason I feel developers should be going with a hologram-based design for more immersive gaming.
@Pipr - I think the PS4 plugs into the back of your neck like in The Matrix.
Hope the cable supplies power as well, I don't want to be that emerged and have the power go out.
@BertoFlyingFox exactly this, how many of us have bought an expensive headset only to use it once or twice?
