There's no doubt that the PlayStation 4's install base makes for pleasing reading, but the big winner for Sony is the amount of PlayStation Plus subscriptions that these sold systems are attracting. The number of members signed up to the premium service has doubled in the past year β and the Japanese giant wants to both keep those accounts active, and attract many more.
As part of an investors presentation, the organisation highlighted how it intends to do this: through further expansion of online titles and with the introduction of more PlayStation Originals. The first of these, Powers, launched earlier in the year to critical acclaim β and a second season of the top rated adaptation has already been commissioned.
Expect to see more of these types of shows in the future, with more likely to be announced at E3 next month. Sony Pictures recently trademarked a television and game series named The Player, which could well factor into its plans. We suspect that, for many of you, a better selection of Instant Game Collection software would be preferred to supplementary media, though.

You guessed it, it's a subscription for games consoles, so I want games, not television shows. Put that money into making more quality exclusives, Sony. If I want to watch the telly, I have a ton of free channels to choose from.
"Expect to see more of these types of shows in the future"
Things we can't enjoy if we dont live on the "right" parts of the world...
I could not care less about Powers or TV shows. I don't have time for them. GoT aside, it took me nearly a month to get through Daredevil (which was superb) and I don't like giving Sony money for games only to see it squandered on generic television I have no interest in.
Invest more in the IGC, get more subs. It's not rocket science, boys.
this is bad news.... what people want from PS+ is AAA games, you can't make up for the lack of AAA games by throwing TV shows and other random stuff like that.
If I didn't need Playstation Plus to play games online then I wouldn't have PS+ at all. So far, I have found the choice of games offered disappointing and I don't/didn't think that 'Powers' is available to us in the UK yet. Not that I am bothered either way - I didn't buy my console for TV shows....
A big company not listening to its customers is the norm -_-
@DualWielding
Since you need PS+ for online gaming there is no more reason for Sony to bother about AAA games in PS+. Look how they are going very very slow with the PS+ edition of Driveclub. No hurry at all, even GT7 would be earlier out then the game they promised for november 2013.
Can i watch powers in UK?
Yay! More tv shows I can't watch
Games Games Games oh TV show. I don't spend money on a plane ticket to get taken on a boat sort it out Sony. Why when someone gets it so right do they then duck it up? Listen to us we have trading tokens for games.
Hasn't Sony learned anything from Xbox? Xbox are playing their cards really well lately and I fear this E3 even the biggest of Sony fanboys won't be satisfied. Last year Sony's conference was really boring and had major pacing issues, but at least they had the promise of good games in the future. Since we already had BB and with Uncharted not releasing this fall I hope they have a huge surprise up their sleeve, else Xbox will blow them away this e3.
"Blow them away" is relative ofcourse, because only people like you and me actually watch it; the rest of the consumers who are still in the race for a console go ahead and buy a PS4.
How about just working to improve the network. For example the horrible download speeds.
Honestly Sony I could less about your original tv shows. I guess we will have to wait for NBC, ABC, CBS OR FOX to make video games, because it doesn't look like we will be getting any from Sony.
I will not be buying a PS4 and I will not be renewing my PS+. Thank God for the Wii U and the 3DS.
No thanks. I'll just not renew my sub if I don't like what they offer, that's for darn sure. I barely play online so...π
people need to stop complaining PlayStation Plus games are free as long as your subscription is active.. also watched (Powers) it was a good show and I'm looking forward to the 2nd season. Sony needs to release it to the UK and let those poor people watch it.
Btw don't leave your credit card information in your playStation Network account it will get hacked just like mines did. just an advice. if anyone from Sony is reading "Notify psn users when an update is coming via the ps4 or allow for pospone/resume of updates" I like the option to update during morning hours when it does not interrupt my playing time.
We mocked the XB1 at E3 2013 because it was being marketed as a all in one media box. Microsoft devoted a ton of time to television/cable aspects of the machine and everyone lauded them for it...WTF are you doing Sony!?! PS+ is a subscription service for a console. How about spending money to improve the quality of PS+ games and investing in more first party studios/games. We don't want television shows!!!
"a better selection of Instant Game Collection software would be preferred to supplementary media"
Absolutely spot on. Why are MS and Sony so hell-bent on trying to force TV onto their games machines? We have cable, sky and hundreds of other TV solutions. Stick with making games which is what the box is designed for and what we bought it for...
I wonder if they could add 2 'PS NOW' games each month for free to? Say you could play them free for 1 month. That would be cool (PS NOW beta(UK) is excellent so far. Not had a problem with it yet)
@Bobbytheb @Dodoo Advertising costs money, they allready do this and nobody complains about them spending their money the wrong way for advertising. A tv show, if succesfull, could potentially even make money
So I have to pay $20 more for PS+p er year than the US (it's still more by a shot after exchange) but I can't even watch these shows? Even though I would rather the money put into games, the one thing I do get. Ffs Sony. I wouldn't be buying PS+ if it wasn't for the changes made to online play.
@dmc79 They are not free. We have to pay for the service, there is nothing "free" about PS+.
@joseth418
Well yes we can put it that way we are actually paying since we're paying for the service.
Shove your TV shows.
