Anyone still using PlayStation Now? We should probably do an article looking at the state of the service in 2016 – but enough content brainstorming, we're actually here to tell you that 23 new PlayStation 3 games have been added to the UK service. Sony's still playing catch-up to North America on these shores, but it's now offering 150 on-demand titles in Britain, which is decent.
The new additions include BioShock and Borderlands, as well as personal Push Square favourite Trash Panic. Dozens of new releases will be added throughout the year, too, with three Batman: Arkham titles on the agenda. A sub costs £12.99 per month, so it's certainly not breaking the bank – but is it an investment that you deem worthwhile?

I really wish it was available in Ireland. I would love to give it a go.
Used the free trial and accidentally paid for a second month. But gave me enough time to play through PS3 games I missed (Killzone 2, Resistance 3, Uncharted 1, a couple more I wasn't bothered to finish). Decent value with that free month included and was fun seeing them on the Vita screen. Upgrading to PS4 soon so didn't want or need physical or download copies. The tech works well on my internet, was impressed.
Any Idea if it's coming to Ireland agree with above .
I would love to use ps now, but unfortunately my wifi is just plain awful in my house. So when that free trial came along, I gave up on using it quite quickly.
It was quite amazing attempting to play infamous on my Vita though!
I think it's good value if you haven't played a fair few of the classics and exclusives like me, but I don't think its something I would sub to every month. Definitely worth a month every now and then if there's a few games your interested in though. I tried the beta and it ran great on my average internet on Lego Batman, so I will get a month or two when I've finished most of my games.
Want to use the trial just to play Shadow of the Collosus (never played it). Just gotta decide the best time to do it (there never is a best time!). I barely play my Plus games!
Hey Sammy,
I purchased the $99.99 1 year subscription this last Monday. It's equals out to $8.30 a month so I figured it was worth a chance. Currently the service in NA has 323 games available. I look forward to more games over the year. I hope they keep expanding the game library like they have the last few months.
Cheers!!!
Never really saw the point of PS Now
@GrafUlrich88 Awesome, good deal!
I might be the only one but I want this service for the rest of Europe asap.
@dryrain I once said the same about Netflix. But streaming games could become as popular one day as streaming films is now. In the near future it could happen with brand new games: people could stream, say, The Last of Us 3 to their BluRay player and never actually have to own a console. It's partly an escape route for Sony if consoles stop selling and the tech is cool.
I'm not sure what the requirement's are to play PSnow but it lagged enough for me to call it unplayable, i'm running fibre and atm i'm getting 34 meg but I do have 3 console's running off that. If they sorted that out I would get it for sure, i've called PSnow in the past but I was genuinely gutted when it wouldn't run smooth enough and I was suprised how much it annoyed me.
@xmeadx so my connection speed of 1mb is just not going to cut it then lol
@xMEADx @dryrain My friend runs 80mbit (Gets about 76mbit down and 20mbit up) and gets a solid connection to it, but it can drop sometimes when others use the internet.
Sony's recommendation of 5mbit is completely false, just to let everyone know. I run 6mbit via a hotspot and it's unplayable. Perhaps they meant to say you need 5MB and not 5Mbit per second speeds...
@Jenraux I play with about 25mb down, whilst the wife and kids use Netflix in two different parts of the house and it works absolutely fine for me. I hasten to add that that's via a wired connection, so maybe that's the clincher.
it works pretty good for me i have 30mbs down and 10mbs up,
also why does it not give me access to the games that i had bought from
PSN store for the PS3, not bothered about the freebies from plus, but i can access all the movies i bought from PSN on the PS3, so really if it is available on now then shouldnt i have access to them on my PS4 in either Now or via the library,
they should also consider doing a PlusNow service, which i think could be a good idea, if priced well say 15.99 a month, they could probably throw in a few movie rentals a week as well,
oh and one last thing, my ps3 and ps4 have never been connect to my wifi, ethernet only,
Yea I live in the uk. Have been a ps now member since it came out of beta. £12.99 a month really is great. I play street fighter 2 player with no issues lots of little gems on there that I missed. I really like this implementation of back wards compatibly. I would like the service to grow to be part of the psplus games at some point.
I have an Xbox one as well I never owned a 360 so I don't have lots of old games stacked up so that is why I'm all in on ps now.
I just kept my PS3. Such a huge backlog on it and the jump in graphics isnt really that negligible.
The subscription doesn't make any sense to me because I prefer to play MY games when I feel like. Besides, not everybody is able to get a 25MB Internet connection like the guys here above.
@get2sammyb
I've got a theory about PSnow which I hope you can touch upon if you ever get to write your article, which also concerns backwards compatibility:
I feel Sony should give people unlimited acces to every game that is featured in PSnow which they already own. This can easily be done for both digital as physical ownership, but digital is the bare minimum ofcourse. This will not only create PlayStation's own (virtual) backwards compatibility program with easily as many titles available as on MS's service, but this will give people the chance to try it out.
PSnow could be such an important part of Sony's feature, but in line with lots of Sony services they first heavily invest in it to just lose interest half way through. With the current subscription fee or prices for rentals you simply won't get a lot of people who are willing to try, but if you let people experience it first by giving them virtual BC (it isn't literally BC, still you don't charge for what people own), I'm positive they'll want to try more games down the line. This might not even lead to more subscriptions, and it don't have to, but it could make people buy old games digitally like we see now on the One or make people rent games.
Sony has got to let go of the principal that they have to make their money back right away, instead they should opt for this "Guerilla tactic" () where people wouldn't even realize they're using a complete new way of gaming till they are half way through a game. Let the people get used to the service now, make an extra buck on some sales, rentals and some subscriptions here and there, but plant the seed in people's minds that will one day become PS5's rose.
Sony has got a huge film and music division with quite the catalog, yet they let Netflix and Spotify dominate in their own house. Although it's rumored they once again will come with their own streaming service (let's play) it's a crying shame they didn't have the presence of mind to make a service right away which combines their own movie, TV (vue), music and game streaming service combined with PS+. With close to 40 million users already they could've offered extra modules on top of Plus which could've given the consumer a all in one streaming service for way less money that Netflix and Spotify could ever do. We'd be paying £20- £25 a month now for PS+, PSNow, a music service and a Netflix competitor and be telling everyone we knew about how much value for money it is. People could buy a PS4 for the optimal experience, but the service would be available on lots of other devices as well; Plus wouldn't be very attractive for these people, but since Sony can offer their services in bulk these people would get a music and movie streaming service for the price of just Netflix.
When I look at Sony it's so hard to look at PS's succes; I only see what it could be. And I honestly think it could be dominating entertainment for the next 20years with PS, PSVR and a bunch of streaming services.
I think the service is ****
I own ALL the PS3 games I want to play paid in full and digital licence sat on my PS3 in the same psn account I use on my ps4.
Why the hell should I have to pay any subscription to enable me to play them on ps4!???? I must have paid out around £1,000 over the last 7 years in software as a random guess for over a terrabyte of games. This is ignored and they want a further £13 a month to "rent" then back!???
Get lost Sony.
I know you guys just got it over there in the UK, but overall the service is pretty lame. Maybe if you had a 19in. monitor you wouldn't notice the artifacts / graniness.....or the slight input lag.......but if your coming from a good television set with lag input in the 10 to 30's.......PS Now grows tiresome.
It works well on the Vita though!! (if the game doesn't use L2-3 or R2-3).
I'd like to give this a go if I had a) more time and b) it was £9.99 per month. Got a PS3 still so don't feel a pressing need to sign up but I'm sure there are a few games I'd like to play eventually. Just don't think I'd use it enough to justify the monthly price at the moment, unless it was a bit cheaper.
I still use the PS3 as much as the PS4, so Now is not really appealing to me right 'now'. I also think allowing 'free' streaming of games already digitally purchased on PS3 would add value to the service, or at least create more of an incentive to try it out.
PS3 discs are generally so cheap, it hardly seems worth the effort of the subscription to me, as I still have the console.
