They don't make 'em like this anymore

It may be a new year, but the same old WAYP you know and love is back for another 12 month run. With this week's edition, feel free to share some of your gaming resolutions alongside your immediate itinerary – we'd love to know what you're planning to achieve on PlayStation in 2016.

I'm still playing Fallout 4, but I'm reaching the tail-end of my adventure now. I've been addicted to this game right through the Christmas break, but despite that, I do think that it's got lots and lots and lots of issues. Nevertheless, there's something compelling about the loop of a Bethesda RPG – even if it does feel like it's about to fall apart any minute.

I've been absolutely hammering my PS4 over the holidays, and the gaming marathon isn't going to stop this weekend. I'll be striving to finish off Tales from the Borderlands – even if I find some of the characters to be insufferable – and I'll no doubt be sinking some time into BlazBlue Chrono Phantasma Extend, which offers some fantastic multiplayer fun. To top it all off, I'll be hoarding materials in Fallout 4 so that I can attempt create the ultimate settlement – if I could cut down every tree in the Commonwealth to fund my insanity, I would.

The jolly chap in red scuttled down my chimney and planted a crisp copy of Fallout 4 under my tree. As such, the festive season has been radioactive and will continue to be as such for what I'm anticipating to be a very, very long time. The world is expansive and rich while the gameplay is far stronger than Fallout 3 or New Vegas and the settlement building is gloriously addictive. This was so worth the years of patient waiting. Wait a second, I don't have a chimney? Happy new year folks!

I recently booted up my PS3 with the intention of playing the PS2 game Star Wars: Racer Revenge, but I became distracted by Gunstar Heroes instead. Perhaps reading the 'Ultimate Guide: Gunstar Heroes' in Retro Gamer Issue 148 was still fresh in my mind, but I won't skip on an opportunity to re-battle Seven Force.

I'm currently in Virginia for the week celebrating the New Year with friends, and after launching fireworks in their front yard with the approval of neighbours, we're spending a few more days together playing Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, mixed in with Trine: Enchanted Edition and some competitive madness with Nidhogg and Super Smash Bros. Wii U. It's all made for a grand time to start out 2016!

This weekend I'll mostly be slogging through all of the games I got over Christmas, whether it's continuing the career of a much stronger, less disappointing version of me in WWE 2K16, or having my heart melted by the papercrafted goodness of Tearaway: Unfolded. I'll probably slip in some FIFA 16, too, to celebrate Liverpool inevitably overtaking Manchester United in the Premier League on Saturday. [Current score lines suggest otherwise, Sam! - Ed]

My new year weekend will be action packed as I look back rather than forward with Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, supplemented by some Star Wars Battlefront multiplayer. If that's not enough explosions, I can always blow the living daylights out of Medici in Just Cause 3. You could say that I'm starting off 2016... With a BANG. (Sorry.)

Happy 2016 everyone! I will be going a bit old school this weekend with The Simpsons: Hit & Run, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, and Knights of the Old Republic II – all on the original Xbox [Que? - Ed].
