If you haven't already heard, Fallout 4 is getting a survival mode in a free update relatively soon. Much like Fallout: New Vegas' hardcore mode, you'll need to eat, sleep, and keep yourself hydrated in order to survive - but we could have guessed that this would be the case anyway. Nevertheless, Reddit's data mined some more concrete info on the upcoming tweak, and it does sound pretty intriguing.
Perhaps the biggest overall change that survival mode brings is that it disables quick saving and manual saving. In other words, you won't be able to hit save before you do something that's potentially really stupid. In order to save your progress, you'll have to find a bed and rest for a least an hour. Better hope the game doesn't crash, eh?
Similarly, fast travelling is also disabled, so you'd better get those walking shoes on. What's more, ammo will be given weight, which means that you'll no longer be able to lug around 9999 shotgun shells without crippling yourself.
Somewhat smaller changes include a less useful compass that won't show enemies, drastically lengthened respawn times on foes and loot, and the ability to craft antibiotics that'll be used to heal newly introduced sicknesses. You also take and deal more damage across the board.
On top of all this, there's the new adrenaline system, too, which beefs up your damage output as long as you keep killing things. When you sleep, however, your adrenaline decreases, meaning that it'd be in your best interest to find a decent balance between slaughtering locals and having a nap.
All in all, survival mode sounds rather in-depth, but could you be bothered dealing with all of these extras? Is life in the Commonwealth already hard enough as it is? Scavenge for opinions in the comments section below.

Wow. I like the look of this. However, after getting the plat, I need a trophy shaped carrot to get me back into this. All those adds are amazing. Just a shame I couldn't experience all this on my first run through.
Sounds very good... I'm looking forward to it aslong as there is no bullet sponge enemys it would be near impossible. I reckon this will improve the need to build your own settlement although I'm not too keen on all the extras such as diseases etc, seems abit of a pain in the arse tbh. I'll give it a try and see if I can survive, it should give it more of a serious feel I guess.
I already ignore both fast travelling and quick save because they kill immersion, but all the rest sounds very interesting. What about multiple saves for the different endings? Will we still be able to load manual saves that lead to different storylines? Hope so because I still have to play the BoS and Railroad quests...
Too bad I suck so much at shooters, I'll never be able to experience this.
Anything above easy is just impossible for me.
@PostmanPatinator From what I understand, survival mode will make it so you do more damage to enemies, but in turn, they do more damage to you. In that sense, everything should be more realistic when it comes to combat - wouldn't be at all surprised if one shot to your head from a powerful rifle will kill you, for example. Supposedly, though, you're going to do the same to your enemies, which kind of hints that bullet sponges won't be as common.
Guess we'll see!
@Expa0 Although it is a shooter, the vats system effectively turns it into almost a turn based affair. You literally do not have to free scope anything if you don't want to.
@Expa0 Practice makes perfect buddy.
I've put nearly 100hrs in so far and I've only done 6 main quests and 8 side quests. Been spending most of my time running around for the Brotherhood of Steel and the Minute men. I have friends that finished Fallout 4 within the first week. It will take me a few month as I like to take my time. There is so much more to Fallout than its main quest line.
Im not going to bother getting the season pass as I will just wait for the GOTY Edition. They usually come out a year later and I much more prefer having all of the content on my disk.
In regards to survival mode, I will play it in that mode on my next play through. By then most bugs should have been patched.
I'm not too keen on the extra damage taken and dealt but everything else sounds great for a good RP playthrough. Finding places to bed down for the night should be fun.
Sounds interesting. The respawning broke the immersion for me (along with the continuously recycling settlement quests), esp if you discovered a location yourself and then return shortly after for a quest only to find all enemies (in same locations with same dialogue) and items respawned.
Oh,no number 1's or number 2's? Oh well,sounds alright.
