We've seen a lot of complaints about Street Fighter V - heck, we've done plenty of moaning ourselves when we couldn't connect to our friends for a quick duel or two - but easily the most popular complaint that we've heard stems from the fact that the beat-'em-up doesn't have an arcade mode of any kind.
Fortunately, Capcom hasn't ruled out the addition of an arcade mode further down the line. A representative told Forbes that "The team is looking into adding an Arcade Mode and we'll have more information to share soon." For what it's worth, we reckon that's sounding pretty positive, and we wouldn't be at all surprised if such a mode was incorporated in the relatively near future.

Honestly, I was shocked when I found out that an arcade mode wasn't included at launch. It's one of the most basic mode's of any fighting game.
Never heard of a fighter without an arcade mode. I'd be fine with the game not having one, but I'd say it should be reflected in the price.
Yes, I'll give the game another try if they incorporate an arcade mode and make some tweaks to story and survival.
I'm happy our voices are being heard,
BTW Brits, beat em up = Streets of Rage, Final Fight / fighting game = Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat.........and it's aluminum.
@KingofSaiyans
I think it was a bit of a gimmick by Capcom to be honest.
"Well, we are launching with minimal content, so how can we keep single player gamers engadged". Lets just pad out color unlocks to a somewhat broken survival mode, and fighter points for Alex in the very short and shoddy story mode. That will keep em busy."
BTW, future DLC characters will not be unlocked as easy as Alex is (you don't get fighter points again if you beat a characters story mode twice"). I see through you Capcom!!!! Ease em in and then throw on the grind fest, hoping they either play every damn day or they fork over the cash for the DLC.
Please. Even if I enjoy fighting online, not having an arcade mode is ridiculous.
Good.
I'll jump in when this is on sale on psn. Feels like a game I'd like installed for ease and for when it actually gets modes!!
Once they add that I will consider picking this game up.
If they add arcade I'd buy it in a heartbeat the question is how quick could they turn it around and what would be the impact on their pre-defined roadmap.
Well the real question is how can Capcom sell 9 Million copies and Street Fighter IV and then think to themselves. Forget mass market appeal lets make a niche fighting game for a small number of fans. That will go down a storm!
Well, I hope it is more than a possibility and go ahead with it. And get it before June please.
@Draythedestroyer Because the Esport scene blew up in a big way mainly because of SFIV, but games like Street Fighter X Tekken didn't sell so maybe they felt that market wasn't there anyone, so they decided (naively I admit ) to tailor towards that fanbase.
My only concern with them possibly adding an arcade so soon is that it may delay some of the future content that was already planned. I mean the game doesn't have an end of game boss. I reckon the plan was that boss would be Urien in the story expansion then he becomes available the month after. They put Bison as the boss but another Street Fighter with Bison at the end again really? FANG is possible but he doesn't seem end of arcade boss to me, which just leaves Necali.
I've been a SF fan for many years but I haven't picked this up yet because of the lack of content. I'm thinking it may take a little more than Arcade Mode for me to grab this title. Sadly because of all the bad reviews it's getting I will most likely pick it up pretty cheap by then.
Arcade Mode should be a given IMO.
Can't wait to pick this up when it's finished
I can get onboard with wanting more stuff in the starting package of the game but I just don't get the rant about arcade: survival mode on normal = arcade mode. It's more interesting than the usual vanilla one. But of course if the add a vanilla one I'll play it.
side notes: I died at stage 49 in survival hard ;_; I want those last colours! Won't give up!
Tthe matchmaking is still horrible! I had like 5 matches and I was connected from 2 pm to 7pm.
@adf86
Actually Urien as a boss would be cool and storywise it would make sense. I would rather have more content now even if that means delaying the future one. They can have Urien as a non playable boss and that will hype people when he is actually playable.
Also, maybe it is just me, but Necalli always reminds me of Gill.
@Feena
Survival is still lacking, one round matches against 5 characters until you get a change of sceney, not to mention that the game likes to SNK it with obvious upturns in difficulty vice a gradual ease......makes me think it was a bit rushed itself.
Like they said, it's more or less impossible to have a regular two or three round match against a single cpu and than move onto the next character. This has been the staple since Street Fighter 2 and Fatal Fury in 1991.
@KingofSaiyans
Right, FREE they said!!! I just had to give up on my social life and tell my girlfriend to find someone else.
Alex is the bait and switch, he is after all the most requested. But it's almost a ploy by Capcom to make the game seem like it won't be a grind fest..........trust me, after Alex, you will grind.
@sub12 when you put it that way I can totally see the point, maybe it's because I've never been a fan of the 2 round matches against cpu that I like survival better. It's true that it has clear upturns in difficulty but I guess that's ok? It's like you go through "phases". Build up your points in the first 10-20 matches and then spend them wisely to survive as long as you can...
@sub12 In march they'll add challenges and trials: other ways to earn FM. But I guess they won't give us as much as story or survival...or NOBODY is gonna pay for their precious DLC. If it's really 100K for character I am sorted for at least 3, though...
@adf86 yeah, the problem is that they didn't plan this and that has to impact thier future plans. You'd hope as you said that they would have figured out who is the boss for the expansion in June and If rushed arcade mode could be a train wreck.
Back to content I just think they didn't account for long time fans like me I'll still play games like SF Alpha 2 on the Saturn or SF II HD Remix on PS3 (both excellent games) but always arcade mode I've never played online.
@sinalefa I get what your saying. Yes I reckon Urien will be the boss or have a significant role because it takes place before third strike. Yes Necali does have a little look of Gill so who knows.
Interestingly Evo have revealed that they have received more tournament entries for SFV then they ever have for any game. The record was over 2k entrants for USFIV last year and registrations will be open for months so goodness know how many will be there. Clearly Capcom have been looking at the long term because the Pro scene is not just about a handful of players, it's about Twitch livestreams which are going up all the time which gives the game constant exposure throughout the year.
@adf86
The pro scene is a factor, but it is not the bedrock thats keeping the genre afloat when it comes to developers actually funding new entries. It's people like me, who are mostly interested in the characters, stages, and back story, that amount for 90% of the sales.
@sub12 I don't disagree one bit, I'm the same.I'm just understanding it from Capcom's point of view.
This should've been included from the get go and probably will affect the sales of the game
@adf86
I totally understand Capcom's point of view as well, at least as far as the choices they have made thus far, but ultimately, they were living in a bit of a bubble (pro players, competitive gaming, E-sports, it's substantial, but for sure it's also not everything, especially if your a legacy franchise).
At first I was upset, arcade mode is iconic. It's nostalgic and it's a great mode to play through with your friend passing the controller. However survival mode and online (when it works-currently not) has me glued to the game. However arcade mode alone with the dynamic storyline next month will be greatly appreciated
@Cruise84
The arcade mode is TBD, it's uncertain.....the fully fleshed out story mode will be June. March is challenges, the online store, 8 player lobbies, and Alex.
I'm so glad I didn't get sucked in to the hype. It's going to be a great game in time but I think I made the right choice in waiting.
You'll probably see who is the end boss in story mode will be while playing Extra Battle next month.
With daily Targets, Online, Survival Mode & leveling up characters it will not be as hard to earn FM as some people think.
Ok, now we're getting somewhere.
That's good, I like playing against the cpu. Still going to put in a lot more online matches. I got in a few over my busy weekend.
Anything additional will definitely be welcomed ! Now if they can do something about always having to be connected to the servers... I understand why they are doing it but I dont understand why there wasnt a better option ... getting disconnected on survival and losing all progress is no laughing matter :-/
I'll buy it once the basic features are added...
luckily im one of the few who only need online matches and training. but i want colors so ill have to force myself to finish most of survival as much as i absolutely dont want to.ugh
the arcade mode needs to have character specific endings and openings in order to be worth it
@Johnnycide You're right, I'm sure it'll be wonderful when it's released. One to watch for sure. Although reports on the demo have been mixed.
I began writing about this for my website yesterday but I honestly believe Capcom had this planned out. The arcade mode will drop after the Story DLC in the June, it's all tied to this "narrative" they have going but also works in their favor where they can play "Good guy Capcom" who have heard people asking for an obvious exclusion and are striving to update the game as such.
I like Street Fighter V, it's been my least favourite of the series for a while but i'll still support the game even if Capcom are perfoming some dirty tactics to extend the life of the game at a base level and try to con people into thinking they are doing everything for the fans.
@sinalefa Sorry had to geek at this. There may be a slight chance Necali comes from the same tribe as Gil & Urien but it's doubtful with his story mode intro and the Gil/Urien backstory from 3 which was expanded on in one of the Street Fighter UDON comics, Urien is involved in the story as seen in the Life & Death of Charlie Nash comic so chance is he will be last boss but I think Necali will more the likely be Akuma's newest rival.
No arcade mode? That makes perfect sense. Just not to me.
@adf86 @NamelessAndi
Yes, I don't expect Necalli to be related to Gill or Urien, it is just like the huge, imposing figure and the wild mane that both Gill and Necalli share. Seth had a lot of attacks copied from Gill/Urien but I don't think there was any relation in their backstory.
@JoeBlogs
No, but you can earn the colours for free by completing Survival Mode on each difficulty with every character.
@Gmork___ it doesn't help that is quite difficult on hard and inferno. I use it as a waiting lounge for the matches anyway.
I'll buy it when everything is on the disc. Stop being idiots Capcom.
@sinalefa I get what you mean!. Seth was quite a strange one as he had quite an interesting story in the Street Fighter IV film (which can be found on YouTube with it's terrible dub) but they quickly just brushed him aside as another way of Bison maintaining his Psycho Power.
My prediction for the story is Necali is going to "Kill" Bison hence his exclusion from SFIII and that his power is going to be based on Psycho Power/Satsu No Hadou which will no doubt bring Akuma into V possibly as a surprise character announced at EVO.
