Fallout 4 is a funny game, isn't it? This author enjoyed his time with it enough to unlock the coveted Platinum Trophy, but looking back it's hard not to feel a little disappointed. For many people, that dissatisfaction set in right from the off, due to the sequel's watered down Survival Mode. Fortunately, developer Bethesda has been listening.
"We're doing a complete overhaul of [the game's] Survival Mode," it teased on Twitter. "Food, sleep, diseases, danger, and more. Stay tuned." Fans of the franchise will, of course, remember the valiant Fallout: New Vegas introducing many of these concepts, which were stripped for the vanilla release of the series' latest instalment. This is a good thing, then.
It sounds like there's much more Fallout 4 news on the napalmed horizon, too, with the studio stating that it's "not far off" sharing its plans with regards to DLC. What would you like to see added to the Commonwealth? Some genuinely interesting characters perhaps? Maybe a plot thread actually worth following? We can dream…

Put 120 odd in hours into my first save probably more. I was going to start my melee character soon but I guess if I wait for survival mode it gives me the chance to start my other single player games such as Unchartered 3 and Batman because I know Fallout 4 in the end will probably take a month away from my life...
Hopefully this is just the start of Bethesda adding bits and pieces to the game. I always thought it was a bit weird that survival was stripped down in the first place, though.
I just want the DLC now... I really don't have anything left to do after beating the main game and getting the Plat. The repeating quests get old after awhile and I want some kinda goal.
That said I might play a bit this weekend just to check out the patch.
Level 20 here. I've put all my points into unlocking computers and eating food. Pretty much what I do in real life.
Fallout 4 has loads if issues, the loading takes forever - the glitches and path finding routines really break the immersion. But you cant stop playing, its really odd.
Interesting characters? Plot? Leave this to Naughty Dog and Quantic Dream. All we need is just another portion of the map to explore and with a proper Surivor mode that would be enough.
Level 52, +170 hours and just entered the Institute.
But now I'm in Harran playing Dying Light EE!
@andreoni79 Don't you think Bethesda's 50 hour adventure would be better if it had some good characters and an interesting plot? 'Cos I do.
@get2sammyb I think a single videogame just can't top every single feature and to me Fallout is mainly exploration and atmosphere; as in the Souls series and Bloodborne the story is just a pretext to introduce new elements. This is why instead of a story-driven DLC I'd prefer a new map to explore and new enemies to face. I leave to my +300 books collection the duty to satisfy my lust for stories!
@get2sammyb
It's like a "Minecraft for Adults" for me, the exploring, scavenging and building settlements has almost become "the game" and apart from radiant quests to level up, and feel like i'm "helping the commonwealth grow", not bothered about the story, never really have been in a Bethesda game.
I loved playing Skyrim with mods that made it more like a survival game. They went into ridiculous detail. Not only did you need to eat, you also benefitted from eating a balanced diet. Eating too much fat would make your character slower, stuff like that. Food would go off over time and rotten food would poison you.
You had to wrap up warm in cold areas. Fur armour was best for this. Metal armour's better in terms of protection but not against the cold. If you fell into a lake in the mountains, you'd instantly die. It was great.
This Fallout 4 change won't be quite like that but it's still a welcome change. Survival mode in FO4 is just bullet sponge mode at the moment.
@Matroska Certainly would like to see something along those lines in Fallout. With a new trophy of course to motivate me to do it. I know, I know trophies schmophies
fallout was too much shooting in my opinion. it wouldve been nice if there were quests other than fetchquests and "shoot everyone in the face quests"
