While the PlayStation 4's sales aren't as much of a surprise as they once were, it's worth remembering that the system is still smashing sales records around the globe. The latest set of data reveals that Sony's new-gen system accounted for 59 per cent of all home console hardware sales in Australia last year, outselling its nearest competitor – the Xbox One, of course – by 84 per cent.
Even more impressive, though, is that the company claims that it enjoyed its best ever Christmas period, with sales outperforming all those in its long and storied history. It's pretty mental stuff when you consider that PlayStation has been no slouch over the years, with the PS4 still tracking ahead of the PlayStation 2. Can this train ever be stopped?

VERY impressive indeed! The ps4 is just a sexton piece of tech and has mass appeal for core gamers as well as younger gamers and casuals. IMO it represents how good consoles can be and how well they can cater to the customer.
While I am really happy with Playstation re-taking its crown; I hope Sony does not get complacent. I dislike the Xbox, and abhor its controller, and with the NX announcement, Nintendo is dead to me, so Sony is the only hope for enjoyable console gaming, and I would hate to fall back into the "Playstation is a second class citizen" situation like we had for most of last generation.
@thedevilsjester pretty much this for me too. I have never been a fan of the Xbox controller, I've always preferred the dual shock. NX sticking with keeping third party out once again, might as well have told most people they are closing shop for good.
@NomNom NX is keeping third parties out? News to me.
Choo Choo, motherf**ker!
the PS3 caught up and took over the Xbox 360 last gen so i am not surprised it is doing really well being released at the same time as the Xbox one machine Sony will always be the dominant force i cant believe how badly the Xbox one is doing in Japan though it sold 60 consoles last week over there Microsoft might as well just pull out over there that is embarrassing .
