Well, then – this looks good. Nioh was announced a little while ago for the PlayStation 4, but now publisher Koei Tecmo's uploaded almost six minutes of gameplay footage from last year's behind closed doors presentation at the Tokyo Game Show. And it's looking really rather excellent, isn't it?
We hate to be lazy and bring up the obligatory Bloodborne reference, but the combat's clearly been inspired by From Software's gothic great. We see lots of dodging and calculated manoeuvres, but once protagonist William lets rip, Team Ninja's more flamboyant side comes out to play.
There's no word on a release date for this one just yet, but it's still on track for 2016. Just another one to add to your wish list, eh?

Very interested in this one. Looking great.
@xiofen Can definitely see the Onimusha in it. Agreed.
@Grimwood Blimey, I wish I was playing games like this in the 80s!
This actually feels like a same sort of side step from Dark Souls as Bloodborne was, only From didn't cook this one up. The way the characters move, the animation priority and even the sounds just breathe Souls. I really like the setting and the "beast spirits" that help you in combat are an excellent idea as well and to be honest I'll take a stolen but well excetuxed concept over a flawed original idea every time. But who's to say it's stolen: they have been officially been working on it for 10 years now!
I'm gonna play DS3, but I'm not too sure if I'll actually still like it as much as I want to like it. DS2 didn't do it for me and Boodborne was great, but it just isn't a Souls game (which is neither good or bad, it's its own entity), so I hoped to see a return of form but footage makes me believe it's too much of a mix between DS and BB. So if Nioh breathes new life into the genre by giving us a totally new setting without me constantly thinking about what the game isn't, instead of what it is, it might end up being my personal favorite for 2016 (2016 indeed, some wishful thinking there ).
Toukiden and bloodborne had a Child. The graphics do remind me of that.
I love the sound design in this, the game just sounds so satisfying to play!
I'm very much looking forward to Samurai Souls.
Since this had a very small trailer for the PS3 about 10 years ago, I'm wondering if it was re-instated because of the success of Souls games and Bloodborne.
Looks like the onimusha game I've been dreaming of
@get2sammyb
The combat reminds more of The Witcher 3 with a little of that Tecmo / Ninja Gaiden flair to be honest..........especially with the health bars and how fast everything goes down.
This is looking really awesome. Reminds me of Ninja Gaiden but slower paced. I've not played the Souls games or Bloodborne, but this looks like a similar game that I'll be able to get on board with.
Definitely on my radar!
Looks very very good... Hmm... Yes please.
I love it i didn't like DS2 i need to finish BB. I just dont have the time and i dont even have Kids respect for the parents who still find time to game.
It really does look like a carbon copy of Dark Souls/Bloodborne but with a Japanese theme to it. I really don't mind though, it looks great. Only concern is that they get the difficult level right... I can see them going too far like with Ninja Gaiden.
@get2sammyb @xiofen It's not Onimusha, it's the first Genji, Dawn of the Samurai. I remember being on that path throughout the game. Also one of the first places you play as Benkie.

I don't have a problem w/ it, Genji was really just Onimusha w/ a jump button, but that jump button made all the difference to me or gameplay. Onimusha had a better story.
So, will this game be ridiculously hard like so many other games these days, or will there be an easy mode so I can crush everyone in my way?
@sub12 Boy I hope not!
There's no stamina bar in The Witcher, though, right? Only on your signs.
@get2sammyb
Sorry Sam, you have to actually beat the game before you complain about TW3, otherwise you can't comprehend it's pure awesomeness.
@sub12
Luks amazing for an alpha! But need to improve a lot until the release! Keep the good work!
Looks like something I'd play on my vita. Pick up and go style. I wouldn't be able to sit down for long periods playing this.
New gameplay? this video here showing the exact same footage in September 2015

Color me interested.
Has to go with @Grimwood on this one looks incredibly boring, I didn't even finish watching the trailer....
Awesome
hmm looks like Onimusha/Ninja Gaiden meets Dark Souls
Looks interesting.
I hope there will be an Easy Mode for noob like me...
