Don't worry: we have no intention of writing nerd culture stories on this site any time soon, so you can sleep easy knowing you're safe from Marvel movie trailers here. (Speaking of which, it's been a few days since the last one – they should really rectify that.) This is an interesting little tidbit, though: according to Deadline, Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley is in the frame to feature as PlayStation icon Lara Croft in a forthcoming Tomb Raider movie reboot.
The site claims that a slew of other British actresses are also in the running, including Hayley Atwell, Gemma Arterton, and Kaya Scodelario – all of whom, we should stress, are much better picks than Angelina Jolie. It sounds like negotiations are still in the very early stages, and with Ridley currently filming the next Star Wars flick, we don't expect them to move forward in the immediate future. The 23-year-old would definitely be a solid choice if the movie aims to mirror the game franchise's recent origin story, though.

I never had an issue with Angelina Jolie as Lara. She was fit and athletic enough to do her justice and known for her action roles. I think the script wasn't that great so whoever they chose would have struggled - inc Daisy!
I guess it would depend on whether or not they want to focus on Lara's early life - more like the recent games - or not. Daisy would probably suit this era better than Hayley 'Agent Carter' Atwell who would fit better into the 'Angelina Jolie' era.
Good for her, with the recent success of SW:TFA, she should probably strike while the iron is hot and take the role. That being said, she shouldn't sign for more than a two films contract just incase the first movie fails to deliver.
She also voiced one of the characters in Only Yesterday (Studio Ghibli) movie.
Whenever I see Gemma my brain immediately thinks Katy Sagal and it was quite weird in this context.
Apologies to Gemma Arteron, who I have always liked, but ever since that SOA series marathon viewing there's only room for 1 Gemma in my brain.
They should hire Ellen Page to avoid getting sued.
None of these would make a good Lara Croft and nobody wants a Tom Raider reboot. I'd go Lena Headey a little older than usual, did you guys see her in Dredd. Amazing. Forget GoT
As above though, if we're going for a very young Lara then Ridley should do fine but maybe Lauren Cohan.
For looks alone I thought Jolie was perfect for classic Lara Croft.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi yeah, she was brilliant as Ma-Ma. I loved that film, so urban and gritty, it reminded me of the original Robocop.
@Grimwood I thought the reboot was pretty good but I much prefer the original Tomb Raider games. Better voice actress(s) too.
Yeah, I can see her being Lara Croft. I really hope they don't get Kaya Scodelario, though.
I can see this being pretty good. I've heard a lot of people complain that she doesn't have the.... assets of Lara Croft (which is just a stupid complaint if you ask me) but I think she'd be a good Lara - she has an absurdly British accent, for one
@Anchorsam_9 if people are moaning about her because they don't believe she has the "assets" to play Lara Croft then they have a pretty dim view of the world
as long as she plays the character convincingly that's all that really matters
@Grimwood Camilla Luddington's accent is all over the place. No thanks.
@Jake3103 I agree actually. Kaya would be my chosen actress out of the ones listed.
@Anchorsam_9 @Anchorsam_9 lol... Let's not go down this path.
I do not think Daisy would be a good choice for the role. But because of the Star Wars hype she will probably get it.
I much prefer Camilla Luddington, she's perfect, why not her?
@VanillaLake Because her accent's a mess.
Angelina Jolie was great IMO, physically you couldn't have picked a better actress at the time. As for the quality of the accent, not really a big deal, it's a Tomb Raider film, not a Sundance darling.
You know who would be good though,.....Gal Gadot, the upcoming Wonder Women, seems to be a good actress, and physically, she is a great fit for the modern incarnation of Lara Croft.
I liked her in star wars but she looks nothing like Lara.
What was wrong with Angelina Jolie? In-terms of "look" she was a perfect choice.
Daisy Ridley was excellent in such a tough role in Star Wars, imagine being the lead in one of the most anticipated films of all time, must have been really daunting. That said I would prefer someone like Emily Blunt in the role but at the end of the day it won't matter if the film turns out to be rubbish.
@adf86
Emily Blunt was pretty smoking in Live Die Repeat.
I'd really like to know how her character knows how to use a lightsaber, and the force, and fly the millennium falcon, etc with seemingly no prior experience or training, someone asked me that and it's been eating at me ever since. Hope it's explained at some point in the trilogy.
@sonicmeerkat I had the same conversation with my dad, and when I mentioned that Luke didn't know any of that stuff either he replied;
"Yeah well he didn't have to know any of that s**te. He was living on the moon with his nan".
I'm still laughing at that.
@Johnnycide Luke had some training "with the blast shield down I can't even see" the luke and leia kiss never being addressed even though they're brother and sister is a bigger deal there, what with leia saying she always had a feeling they were related...
@sonicmeerkat well yeah, that and Leia remembering bits and pieces about their mother. No you don't, Leia. You don't because you were a baby, and babies are notoriously forgetful.
The whole thing is full of plot holes, but that's Star Wars.
@Johnnycide Starwars was a mistake - George Lucas
