How did you get on with Dark Souls III this weekend, readers? We prayed to the Orphan of Kos for help besting the Abyss Watchers, and he responded in kind. We're kinda worried we're going to be whisked away by a giant slug to a Cthulhu-esque nightmare realm in return, however. It was probably worth it – we got a Silver Trophy for our troubles, after all.
Anywho, what's this article about again? Oh right, a new Dark Souls III patch is due out today, bringing the title up to v1.04. We don't know exactly when it'll drop, but we do know that it'll include the following features:
- Performance adjustment for Greatsword.
- Battle performance adjustment for Dancer's Enchanted Sword and Winged Knight Twinaxes.
- Performance adjustments for Soul's Greatsword and Farron Flashsword.
- Fix for issue where multiple items become impossible to use at Road of Sacrifices, Farron Keep, Cathedral of the Deep after clearing the game.
It's not entirely clear what adjustments it plans to make to the Greatswords – the most powerful weapon in the game right now is reported to be the Dark Sword, so it'll be interesting to see whether these get nerfed across the board, or whether it plans to boost the Greatsword to the same level.
As for whether the update will solve any of the ongoing matchmaking problems in the title, this also remains to be seen. We'll notify you of the full patch notes as and when they become available. In the meantime, let us know whether you've encountered any problems with the release in the comments section below.

Dark sword is a straight sword, though. Agree it is powerful but still probably not as good as the less-flashy broadsword. Broadsword has that r2 which leaps forward to attack - very useful against enemies waiting for your approach. Broadsword. Also uses less stamina (I get 5 swings vs 4). Damage per hit is very similar, iirc 2 points in broadsword's favor.
I do admit I was thinking about switching to dark sword though for the fancy skinny moves . Fashion souls!
Tsch,i'd really like to see an improved hud/hud options -its a pet peeve of mine. Its still the original "place holder" hud..there's an option for no hud but that's a little tricky obviously.I think it could be a lot smaller and also have options to select which hud elements or not are required (Massive weapon icons taking up 1/5 of screen is distracting and not helpful) Apparently, the old Souls games (at least DS2) have hud options? also,Bloodborne has a perfect minimal hud. This one,narh..Its lazyness i tell ya,no other reason for it.Great game but still.
@special_donky It's a good point, I was feeling the same way. I don't need the HUD showing me what weapon I'm holding I can see the weapon in my hand.
Any word if the PvP covenants are being patched? I'm having no luck getting summoned might just be that people aren't walking around embered
@LieutenantFatman Exactly. To be fair, apparently there was a lot of work at From post release with tweaking technical gubbins and what not that made a massive improvement in performance (patch 1.03) i was considering holding off buying 'till that badboy. As ever with not so great huds,it'd be so easy for devs to make it better.Lets hope they give it some attention for 1.05.
@Hego Yeah I noticed this too.
I was plsying as a Blue Sentinel but not a single summon to aid a Way of Blue guy.
