We knew that the day was coming, but it's still sad all of the same. Sony announced earlier in the year that it would be formally renaming the division that runs PlayStation to Sony Interactive Entertainment starting 1st April, and we've been waiting for that most famous of boot screens to be replaced. Ratchet & Clank, despite launching this month, still went with the moniker Sony Computer Entertainment – but it looks like Alienation will spark the change.
In a trailer uploaded to the PlayStation Blog earlier today, the platform holder's iconic introduction uses slightly different wording: "Sony Interactive Entertainment presents". It's the end of an era, readers – it really is. The old slogan has opened PlayStation exclusives for over 20 years, so forgive us if we take a moment to adapt. Who'd have thought that one changed word could make such a profound difference?

That title alone would hype me whenever I bought a first party game... it's something trivial but I'm sad to see it go.
That twin-stick shooter tho!
@Boerewors I'm not sure whether you're excited for Alienation or not?
Oh well...as long as it begins with "Sony"
It's been shown on a new Shadow of the Beast trailer too. I always love it at conferences when Sony announce a big exclusive and the slogan comes up and your guessing which studio's name follows it.
@get2sammyb
Hahah, I heard my kids using that phrase once, but it seems that this is a case of 'that old man, tho'.
I'm really excited for Alienation and Housemarque are with Platinum Games and Nintendo my favorite developers in the industry. Their games just speak to me in a way not many games these days do, and when this kind of raw, solid, old- fashioned gameplay meets this level of refinement and state-of-the-art tech, I can get really excited.
I've been gravitating towards these more 'arcady' titles more and more often and my eyes have really been opened the last five years. We've seen some of the biggest launches in the whole entertainment industry, but I felt a sense of boredom that grew ever bigger. I wanted big budget titles but I was playing them like a zombie and it started to feel like a task at some point. Now I've found a balance where I play smaller games like Salt 'n Sanctuary alongside the huge triple A blockbuster Dark Souls 3 and I'm a happy gamer because of it. These "indies" make me enjoy the bigger titles and vice versa and although Alienation isn't an 'indie title' in the true sense of the word, the focus on pure gameplay makes me really excited for its launch next week!
Personally I couldn't care less. Its not like I ever pay attention to the boot screen and tend to be doing other things whilst waiting for the games to load - like commenting on articles, making a drink etc
I have fond memories of seeing this when I used to play crash team racing
I always think of the old Playstation 1 chime when you boot it up and, strangely, the pipes, and drums from Uncharted's opening.
@Boerewors Completely agree with this sentiment. I find that a healthy mixture of AAA and innovative Indy really whets my gaming appetite the best. Cannot wait for Hyper Light Drifter!
@Majic12 Hyper Light Drifter, yes please. That game can't come soon enough.
Meh.
MEH
what did it even used to say? Looks exactly the same.
Hardly the most famous boot screen either.
