Days Gone – which we previously expected to be named Dead Don't Ride – surprised us in a good way at E3 2016. We'd anticipated a hammy, heavy metal vibe – but the biker culture that surrounds this post-apocalyptic release actually seems understated and thoughtfully done. But we don't know a whole lot about it at this stage – other than the fact that it looks a lot like The Last of Us.
Well, one feature that developer Sony Bend's been hyping is the title's dynamic weather. "Realistic weather effects, such as rain, wind, snow, and day-night cycles impact the gameplay," the title's official blurb explains. "The game's lighting is all real-time and reacts dynamically, the way the human iris does, as players move from one location to the next."
Obviously the motorcycle plays a big part in the gameplay, and so with the various weather changes, the handling of the chopper will adapt, too. The developer's apparently recorded tons of vehicle samples to get the sounds of the bike right, and as it doubles as your inventory, it's being treated like its own character.
One other thing worthy of note is that the game's a single player experience only – there's no multiplayer at all. Much of the action will centre upon your ability to scavenge for materials and craft, and as resources are limited, you'll need to ensure that you're building the right things. It sounds pretty cool, but there's no date for this right now – the studio's taking its time.

I love zombie games. I love open world games. This is good for me.
See the only thing really standing out to me with this game is the American biker gang theme and that awesome bike. But I love bikes and I find American biker culture interesting so these two points alone make this game pretty exciting to me. Will be watching closely!
This was the best new game surprise of E3 and that gameplay had the same impact as Horizon did last year. Horizon was my overall game of E3 but this was the best new reveal in my opinion!!
I still can't get over just how good last night was. I hope the no multiplayer doesn't dampen the hype around this one.
I was really impressed by the way the zombies moved. According to Bend that's all real-time - there's no trickery involved.
I love bikes, bikes are awesome. And this game looks superb. I'm in.
Reminded me of Sons Of Anarchy but with zombies..and no other bikers...and not much driving around on motorbikes..ok not like that show at all then but it looks awesome
after God of war .this is my my most hype game
single player only .yes yes yes yes yes yes yes
@get2sammyb I was impressed by them too and the sheer number of them all chasing after you in a World War Z style... Just WOW!!
"Dead Don't Ride" was such a cooler name, invoking motorcycle culture, "Days Gone" sounds like one of those indie games sammy's always going on about. No offense.
@get2sammyb apparently they're not zombies, they're called freakers. And they are actually still alive, not dead or undead. They respond differently depending on weather, how many of them there are plus other aspects. I'm keeping a very close eye on this one
Did notice the zombies vanishing from the floor after they'd been killed though, looked odd!
@rjejr Good call! I agree. And...we need a thumbs up system here!
Also, the motorcycle component sounds like it has potential. Maybe they'll take a note from the PC game Spintires? (look that game up, people...makes driving through realistic mud a legit gameplay feature)
Sound like Red Dead Redemption style gameplay.
except swap horse to bike & add zombie.
@Neolit yeah i agree. strangely slow item pick up animations too
