We can hardly believe that we're more than halfway through 2016 already, but at least this year has offered up some good gaming times so far. The likes of Dark Souls III and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End immediately spring to mind, but the latter half of 2016 also promises an abundance of great looking titles, so we've decided to put together a rather large list of 20 upcoming games that are, at the time of writing, still scheduled to launch this year on PlayStation 4. Needless to say, there's just about something for everyone here.
Furi
Release date: 5th July
A stylish mix of bullet hell and tense melee combat, we've been keeping a close eye on Furi since its moody announcement trailer. Featuring licensed electronic beats from the likes of Carpenter Brut, this is one indie that looks and sounds razor sharp.
I Am Setsuna
Release Date: 19th July
Taking us back in time to the simpler days of Japanese role-playing games, I Am Setsuna could well be the breath of fresh air that fans need. A whimsical art style should combine with traditional systems and mechanics to create a charming, lovingly crafted fantasy experience.
The Banner Saga 2
Release Date: 26th July
Although the first game was late to the PS4 party, The Banner Saga 2 looks to be a solid sequel that expands upon what the original did right. Another indie with an attractive art style, this tactical RPG allows you to forge your own stories through a branching narrative and multiple playable characters.
No Man's Sky
Release Date: 9th August (NA) 10th August (EU)
Easily one of the most anticipated titles on this list, it feels like we've been waiting forever to get our hands on No Man's Sky. As you no doubt know by this point, the incredibly ambitious space sim is in development at independent studio Hello Games, and we're praying that the tiny developer can deliver.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
Release Date: 23rd August
Adam Jensen's back and he's ready for more augmented action in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided - a sequel to 2011's decent Deus Ex: Human Revolution. More options in and out of combat, expanded RPG mechanics, and an intriguing plot concerning robotic limbs are just a few reasons to watch out for this one.
The King of Fighters XIV
Release Date: 23rd August (NA) 26th August (EU)
It may look a little drab, but The King of Fighters XIV promises plenty of bang for your buck, featuring a huge playable character roster and a load of different game modes to try your hand at. Going by what we've seen so far, this should be another enjoyable technical brawler from Japanese developer SNK.
God Eater 2: Rage Burst
Release Date: 30th August
Killing large viscous monsters with ridiculously oversized weapons is never not fun, so we've got high hopes for God Eater 2: Rage Burst and its particular brand of beast slaying. Will Bandai Namco's action RPG have the same impressive impact here in the West that it's always enjoyed in Japan? We're cautiously optimistic.
Final Fantasy XV
Release Date: 30th September
Here it is, the big one. After ten years of waiting, Final Fantasy XV is finally within reach. It often feels like what's left of the franchise's reputation rests on the shoulders of Noctis and the gang, so Hajime Tabata and his team have a heck of a lot to prove with this very pretty open world adventure.
Mafia III
Release Date: 7th October
Can the Mafia franchise climb the modern open world ladder and stand alongside the likes of Grand Theft Auto? Only time will tell, but we know for a fact that the series has never had a better opportunity to establish itself as one of the genre's heavy hitters.
Battlefield 1
Release Date: 21st October
Disease filled trenches, mustard gas, and landmines aren't exactly our idea of fun, but we have to admit that Battlefield 1 has made World War One look, y'know, bearable. Historical snark aside, great things are expected of DICE's stunning looking shooter, which is guaranteed to at least provide an impressive spectacle.
The Last Guardian
Release Date: 25th October
We've been waiting quite a while for this one as well, haven't we? The Last Guardian finally arrives on PS4 later this year after delays, years of silence, and several superb gameplay trailers. Will the successor to Shadow of the Colossus live up to the hype? We can do nothing but place our faith in the cat-bird thing one last time.
World of Final Fantasy
Release Date: 25th October (NA) 28th October (EU)
Described as an approachable Final Fantasy title, World of Final Fantasy is something slightly different for the series, mixing cute and colourful visuals with traditional RPG systems like turn based battles. Its presence has no doubt been overshadowed by Final Fantasy XV, but we're looking forward to it all the same.
Titanfall 2
Release Date: 28th October
Respawn's giant mechs stomp out their territory on PS4 later this year, bringing along a full single player campaign for their second outing. The PlayStation Nation may have missed out on the first game, but Titanfall 2 seems like an improvement in almost every area, and we're more than ready to suit up.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
Release Date: 4th November
Okay, so we admit that it does get increasingly difficult to become excited for Call of Duty year after year, but we're prepared to back Infinite Warfare after its impressive E3 2016 showing. Incorporating space battles and a load of anti-gravity madness, this could be the shot in the arm that Activision's blockbuster franchise arguably needs.
Dishonored 2
Release Date: 11th November
A stealthy stab-'em-up with a branching narrative, Dishonored 2 looks to carry on the success of the first game and spill some blood with expanded gameplay options and even a second playable character. It may not look much different from its predecessor, but why try to fix what isn't broken?
Watch Dogs 2
Release Date: 15th November
Goodbye Aiden Pearce, hello hacker boy with designer glasses. From what we've been shown of Watch Dogs 2, Ubisoft appears to be taking the property in a promisingly positive new direction, opting for more player freedom, a more dynamic sandbox, and a touch more personality. Hacking's hopefully back in style, baby.
Gran Turismo Sport
Release Date: 15th November (NA) 18th November (EU)
Although it looked more than a little rough before E3 2016, the racer's subsequent showings have done a lot to repair the confidence of petrol heads. Not quite a full sequel, Gran Turismo Sport should still prove to be a love letter to car fanatics the world over - now we just have to hope that Polyphony gets it out on time.
South Park: The Fractured But Whole
Release Date: 6th December
Coming back for another helping of hilarity in this RPG sequel, the kids of South Park will once again take to turn based battles and sensationally stupid quests. Obviously one for fans, South Park: The Fractured But Whole looks to expand upon the first game, which was already surprisingly good.
Gravity Rush 2
Release Date: TBA 2016
A real open world stunner that Sony decided not to show off at E3 2016, Gravity Rush 2 looks like a bigger and better version of the Vita original, complete with much more detailed environments, refined gameplay, and a whole host of other improvements that'd take a long, long while for us to list here.
Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization
Release Date: TBA 2016
Could this be the Sword Art Online game that PlayStation fans have been waiting for? While past attempts have been decent enough, Hollow Realization seems to be taking everything that its predecessors got right and throwing it into one big, colourful action RPG. Kirito and the gang could be onto a winner here.

FYI - South Park is December 6th, not September.
Of those on the list, I had to vote Call of Duty. I know the franchise gets a lot of hate and 'Space' may not be everyones favourite setting but the Campaign and story sounds interesting. I know that I am unlikely to have issues at launch, concerns over amount of content etc and I have pre-ordered the Legacy Pro edition so getting everything that this game will have - Campaign, Zombies, Multi-player, Season Pass and includes CoD4:Remastered too.
Titanfall 2 is also of interest. I enjoyed the first in general - 1 or 2 things I hope get addressed. The fact this has a Campaign now and that it will also come with all DLC Maps make this my 2nd favourite option
BF1 is a third favourite - but I have a few more concerns over this than the previous games. BF games, well since BF2BC, haven't had great campaigns and not exactly trouble free launches either. It looks like a 'reskinned' BF4 type game but with the changes you may expect from a 'sequel' - like dynamic weather.
Deus Ex would come in next but the rest of the games have little to no appeal for me. Banner Saga 2 is free on GwG next month (not that I will download) so have no desire to pay for it on PS. NMS, I think, is high on ambition but could be too 'big' to be anything but tedious after a few weeks - All in all, its looking quite light on games that appeal to me - Not a bad thing as I can put the money towards hardware - namely the Neo!!
The Last Guardian and Gravity Rush 2 for me. Was hoping for Horizon as well. At least that means I can work a little more on my backlog, but I most likely end up buying other games instead..
7 absolute must buys on there for me with a couple of maybes.
The only ones I won't be getting are BF1, Titanfall and most likely COD, although I will pick up COD on the cheap in 2017 if the campaign is good. Liked the e3 footage.
Deus Ex is my most anticipated of the lot, though.
South Park was one of my favourite games of last gen and I know this'll be up there with it, there hasn't been anything close to it in terms of humour in a video game, maybe Grim Fandango comes closest. More studios should employ the services of comedians and their writing teams.
Probably although currently impossible, maybe the other CoD game should be on the list?
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi I absolutely love South Park, and while Stick of Truth was pretty good I didn't actually find it that funny. Looking forward to FBH though, will be getting it 100%.
@kyleforrester87 clearly you're too grown up pffft, yeah, I don't even make much of an effort to watch South Park anymore, maybe when they stop making them I'll go back and catch up.
"Decent Deus Ex: Human Revolution" Decent? It was fantaaassssttiicccc. So yeah, i voted for Mankind Divided
@shogunrok south park actually releases december 6th not september 6th.
"Decent Deus Ex: Human Revolution" Decent? It was fantaaassssttiicccc. So yeah, i voted for Mankind Divided
where is nioh
Glad you included KOFXIV so I could vote for something.
Maybe Furi and Gravity Rush 2 if I like the first one. Looking forward to Project Diva X.
nioh is coming this year.where is kingdom hearts 2.8.but nioh is coming this year
@SuperSilverback yeah I almost said something about them referring the HR as only 'decent' but thought maybe I was being overly sensitive Decent. Pah!!!!
@ztpayne7 @darkswabber Thanks, I've fixed that now. Meant to write December (it's all in chronological order) but put September for some mad reason!
@kyleforrester87 @SuperSilverback It's a very solid, respectable 7/10 game lads.
Gravity rush 2 for me, and the last guardian if the game as good as ico/sotc. Also fury, no man sky and world of final fantasy if the game is good. Plus gran turismo sport if I buy ps vr. Seriously my poor wallet is hurt badly this year..
@playstation1995 Nioh JUST missed the cut because I'm not so sure that it'll make it out this year. Can easily see it getting pushed back into 2017 to avoid the rush near the holidays.
That said, I'm not convinced Gravity Rush 2 will launch this year, either, but if I didn't include that Sammy would probably kill me.
I voted TitanFall. Wanted to say gravity rush 2 but I have a feeling NA is gonna have to wait next year for it.
I've already pre ordered 5 games on this list and it amazes me more every time I think of it, but my most anticipated game on this list is Titanfall 2 . I remember people saying that TF1 was "just CoD with mechs" 2.5 years ago, but we've come to a point that when CoD launches this year it's nothing more than a watered down version of Titanfall withóut mechs.
PS4 gamers who don't own a PC or One, or just skipped the game, are in for a treat if they can get over the fact that the first one was an Xbox exclusive (I actually have a friend who refuses to buy Titanfall 2 or Rise of Tomb Raider because of the [timed] exclusivity). Traversal in Titanfall is so smooth and plays a huge part in the game and by giving players a Titan once every few minutes, the multiplayer has a really satisfying cadence to it.
I hope this TF is as accesible for less skilled FPS players like myself as the first one was, so I can feel awesome every single round, no matter what my actual score is.
Too many to pick just one ha. New deus ex looks mint. Its set in the same year JC Denton is born so hopefully we see Paul, Anna and Gunther XD! . kingdom hearts 2.8 due out Dec 28
Final Fantasy XV, but Mafia III and Deus Ex too and Gravity Rush 2 and The banner saga 2...and more!
@ShogunRok wow. Just...wow. Unforgivable.
@ShogunRok @kyleforrester87 lads. Solid, respectable? Whats going on here Robert! Whats going on!!!
@ShogunRok Human Revolution is definitely better than a 7, Ramsey For me, at least!
No Man's Sky got my vote. Super excited.
Myself I'm looking forward to FIFA 17, Ark:Survival Evolved, APB:Reloaded and Star Trek Online.
I'm still unsure about No Mans Sky so shall wait for the reviews to come in before I buy it.
Definitely No Man's Sky for me but I'm super stoked for others like, GT Sport, Deus Ex (the first was more than decent) and Mafia 3 to name a few.
I reckon FFXV will have some dodgy framerate issues and be a clunky mess to play. It's going to be interesting to see its review scores.
@Quintumply @SuperSilverback @kyleforrester87 I enjoyed Human Revolution when it came out but I just don't think it's held up very well - and the boss fights are grade A garbage.
Having said all that, I'm hoping that Mankind Divided is basically just Human Revolution but... better. Thankfully that seems to be the case!
Watch Dogs 2, Battlefield 1 and No Mans Sky are the only games I will get this year which are on this list apart from sales. Mafia 3 I would take a huge amount of convincing after sitting through the borefest that was Mafia 2. Surpised Ark Survival Evolved, Xcom 2, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Batman telltale Series, Walking Dead Season 3, Outlast 2, are not on the list.
@ShogunRok Haha, the boss fights were rubbish for sure. Mankind Divided is looking awesome, looking forward to playing it at some point.
@ShogunRok
I put South Park because the E3 trailer was just comedy gold. I would add Rise of the Tomb Raider for my most anticipated BUT we don't have a solid release date so hard to put on the list.
@kyleforester87 That punch animation, though...
Hey, I said Deus Ex was decent - be happy!
DQ Builders?
The Last Guardian for me boys!
I surprised myself by going with Mafia III...
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is easily my no. 1. I don't believe there is a chance, at all, that Gravity Rush 2 will be out in 2016 in the U.S. so second is God Eater 2: Rage Burst then Watch Dogs 2.
Argh, so many games. I want to get No Man's Sky, Deus Ex, I Am Setsuna, God Eater 2, FFXV, Last Guardian, World of FF, South Park, Gravity Rush 2 and possibly Sword Art. And I haven't even started the Witcher 3 yet. The titles above alone would easily last me until next year, especially combined with all the PS3, Vita and Wii U games I haven't even touched yet.
I was reading the Sega Megadrive/Genesis Collected Works book the other day and saw how before Sega came along, most gamers would only buy an average of three games across the entire lifetime of their console. Very different times but quite amazing to see the difference.
So narrowing down the list, the essentials for me are probably The Last Guardian, Final Fantasy XV and No Man's Sky. Hopefully I get round to the rest of them eventually!
@JoeBlogs Pretty sure the directors cut bosses were reworked, and it might even have allowed you to completely circumvent the bosses if you wanted to :S
Hyper Light Drifter? Nioh? The multitude of VR only title?(maybe they don't specifically fit the ps4 only description)
The Last Guardian for sure.
I am mildly interested in Titanfall 2 and Infinite Warfare.
@Majic12 Very true! Hyper Light Drifter looks fantastic. OH, and Abzu! Very excited about Abzu!
Fractured butthole, watchdogs and rise of the tomb raider.
@Majic12 True, I completly forgot about Hyper Light Drifter, I already backed it in kickstater, just waiting for my ps4 code to arrive this summer. The game getting good review across the web.
@Octane Exactly the same here.
So many great games coming out this year. My wallet is going to feel the burn so going to try keep it to a limited amount of day 1 purchases. So far it's No Mans Sky, Final Fantasy 15, Battlefield 1, and Gran Turismo Sport.
@kyleforrester87 haha i forgot you could that 😂😂
Gravity Rush 2 and The Last Guardian are the only two must-plays on this list for me.
I'm highly interested in The Fractured But Whole and World of Final Fantasy as well, though.
The rest... meh.
Kingdom Hearts 2.8 HD Final Chapter Prologue for me even if PushSquare always omits it from the lists
ABZÛ @ShogunRok? It looked really interesting. I picked No Man's Sky.
I went with King of Fighters
For sure's: Titanfall 2, KOF 14, Gravity Rush 2, South Park
Maybe?: Battlefield 1, Mafia 3, Watch Dogs 2, GT Sport
Rise of the Tomb Raider will also be a day one buy....
No Man's Sky for me, but I could just have easily plumped for The Last Guardian, Gravity Rush 2 or World of Final Fantasy.
Getting I am Setsuna and KoF 14 for sure.
Whether or not I get either of the Final Fantasy games is highly dependent on the reception they get and, especially for XV, whether or not it has ANY real customization options.
Lots of goodies on the way!
PS4 has blossomed into a fine console indeed.
Man, sooooooo many good games to come, and in just 6 months?!?!? (certainly some will get delayed though)
I voted for Gravity Rush 2, although all games listed day-1 below could get that vote.
Day-1
Battlefield 1
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
Gravity Rush 2
I Am Setsuna
No Man's Sky
South Park: The Fractured But Whole
Will get, but not day-1
Gran Turismo Sport
The Last Guardian
Day 1
Watch Dogs 2
No Man's Sky Limited Edition
Will Eventually buy
Ps4k
South Park
Final Fantasy XV
Mafia 3
Battlefield 1
the Last Guardian.
Final Fantasy XV, because I could only pick one. World of Final Fantasy & I am Setsuna are close behind.
I was thinking the other day that the year seems a bit slow gaming wise........then I read that list!! There are so many great games to vote for!
@starhops That's a good shout, but it's one of the very few games that JUST missed the cut... Mostly because I forgot it had actually gotten a release date. APOLOGIES.
I voted The Last Guardian.Battlefield 1,Gravity Rush 2 and Dishonored 2 are also my most wanted.Furi i will be picking up thanks to PS+.
Out of Titanfall 2 and COD i'am most likely going to pick up Titanfall first.
Also interested in Maffia 3,The Banner Saga 2,I Am Setsuna,No Man Sky,South Park and Deus Ex,but they will be game's to get later down the line.
What about Toukiden 2?
I thought Dragon Quest Heroes 2 had been confirmed for English release already but guess not.
I voted The Last Guardian. Gravity Rush 2 is a close second, but I have doubts over whether that game will even come out this year.
Looking forward to the following games:
Deus Ex Mankind Divided
Final Fantasy XV
Kingdom Hearts HD2.8
Great article. Am looking forward to a fair few of those games - I voted The Last Guardian.
😢 I need a new credit card...
@BAMozzy cod is also the one I chose which surprised me. I was done with cod BOP 3 after last yrs terrible campaign. I didn't even know at first during the trailer it was a cod game. The story is approx. 8 hrs and believe it or not I play cod for the story not MP.
I don't have a Xbox so I miss Titan fall. So I am also interested in it for the mechs. I may not get both cod and Titan fall at once but we shall see.
Looking forward to I Am Setsuna and World of Final Fantasy.
We started so strong but now the end of the year is kind of disappointing tbh. My 3 most anticipated games (Horizon, Yooka-Laylee, and Legend of Zelda ) have all been delayed to 2017. At least we still have no man's sky, paper Mario color splash, and kingdom hearts 2.8. The beginning of the year was great with SF Zero, Uncharted 4, and Overwatch, but the second half just isn't what I had hoped.
