Could long overdue PlayStation 3 exclusive Agent make a re-appearance at E3 2016 next week? We seem to write the same article annually, but eagle eyed NeoGAF users have noticed that there's been some movement on the Rockstar North developed espionage adventure's trademark page. Essentially, the company has applied for an extension to its application.
Does this mean that the title's about to make a comeback? Not really, because the exact same thing has been happening every year since the outing was announced. For those of you who aren't entirely sure what this is, it's a counter-intelligence action game set during the Cold War. It was announced for the PS3 all the way back in 2009 during Sony's E3 presser.
It's believed that the Japanese giant managed to secure exclusivity on the title because it had previously invested in L.A. Noire, which was directed by ex-London Studio employee Brendan McNamara. If this game ever does make a reappearance, it's unlikely that it will be exclusive, however, as one would assume that Sony and Rockstar settled up a long time ago.

There probably wouldn't be a better time for it then now. PS3 was moderately successful in the end, but always kinda remained the gen's 'loser' up until the very last year when the 360 was almost abandoned by MS and the PS3 overtook the 360 in sales and arguably saw some of its best games.
Now however, PlayStation is part of the zeitgeist and the PS4 is pretty much the only option when kids/ teens buy a console outside of the USA; heck, even in its homeland the PS4 is selling better and is definitely the 'cooler' console to own. So if Rockstar makes a (console) exclusive like Agent, a game which theme better suits PlayStation anyway, this time around, I think it could even be a smart move; it's exclusives like this that sell a console and adaptation per console owner will be higher than if it's a multiplat because of the competitive aspect and Sony putting its weight behind it.
With LA Noire I'm reminded of Rockstar's output this gen, and it's remarkable that Take- Two Interactive indeed seems to rely on just GTA and RDR as Strauss Zelnick said earlier this week (and Evolve, but that was just a CEO not willing to admit a screw- up imo, just like Battleborn "is doing way better than expected" ). Sure, GTA V is a huge succes and the inevitable RDR2 will be so too, but games like LA Noire, Max Payne, Midnight Club, Bully or even a title like Table Tennis would certainly sell enough to warrant the production cost. I'm all for letting your core IPs 'marinade' a bit, letting people wait for it, but with commercial flops like Evolve and the recent Battleborn, Take- Two relies an awful lot on NBA2k, RDR and GTA.
I forgot all about this game. Is it even still part of Rockstars plans??
I remember cancelled games (SW:1313, Prey 2, The Agency: Covert Ops...) better than this...
@BAMozzy You may hear a thing or two about Prey 2 very soon, I suspect.
@Boerewors "even a title like Table Tennis"
Yes Yes Yes. I need TT2.
@get2sammyb I heard a rumour it could be back in development - whether its like the direction the original reveal looked to be taking it or going back to the original Prey and that direction, I don't know. I kind of like the direction of the original trailer more - being a bounty hunter in an Alien universe. I know the their was some link to the original, but it was a new direction and different facet of that universe.
Still would be surprised to see it though but maybe the project was given to Machine Games after Wolfenstien to finish or to do something with... Or Arkane could still be finishing it off as rumoured on other websites (VG24/7 for example)
@themcnoisy Would buy.
@Boerewors
I could see Agent being a VR exclusive, which means I'll skip it, but PSVR could use something like that if it wants to compete with the big kids.
@get2sammyb E3 2009? Wasn't that the same show where we first saw TLG? Maybe TLG releasing this year is a sign?
I need a game to satisfy my Alpha Protocol itch (supreme game if you excuse the controls). Please Universe!
I would rather have the Getaway 3 and Eight days . Sony put money into those projects instead of giving Rockstar money for something we haven't even seen.
