Knack, the much maligned PlayStation 4 launch title, appears to be on the verge of a comeback. A Taiwanese animator listed the title on her resume earlier in the year, and now "renowned" industry "insider" Shinobi602 has been teasing the title on NeoGAF. It's not the strongest source that we've ever based a story upon, but the industrious message board hound has been getting a lot right lately.
It's unclear whether the game will be revealed during Sony's E3 2016 press conference; one would think that that would represent media briefing suicide. Either way, it really does sound like this game is very much in development, which, frankly, we find utterly flabbergasting. Why make a sequel to a title with a 54 on Metacritic?
It's not that we've got anything against the platforming property, but if Sony wants to make an old-school adventure, then it has much better brands ripe for revival. And yes, the original may have sold well – but it was heavily bundled alongside the launch of a new console, which always skews the numbers somewhat. We just find this whole scenario baffling, but it sounds like it's very much happening.

Knack > Ratchet and Clank.
I'd play a sequel.
Media briefing suicide? You reckon a Knack 2 announcement would go down that poorly? C'mon..
Anyway, the original always had promise. Its nice to see they arnt just binning a franchise because it wasn't an instant success.
I don't understand all the hate for this game.At the time the only Ps4 I could find was bundled with this game so I took it and have to say I had alot of fun with it.It was bloody hard though but I enjoyed it enough to play it to the end and a sequel to me is a good thing.(Of course if I had to choose between this or a new Crash Bandicoot game the answer would be obvious but still..)
I guess it would depend on the type of announcement a sequel may receive. If its a big announcement with a lot of time dedicated to it. I don't think it would be a 'media suicide' as such but I would question Sony's decision. If its a small or minor announcement, or even maybe in highlights montage - 10-20secs for example, then its hardly an issue.
It also depends on what else gets mentioned/showcased. I bet if they show new Last Guardian footage and release date this August/September, Extensive game-play from Shenmue 3, FF7 game play, announce Crash Bandicoots return, as well as the expected focus on Horizon, Wild, Hellblade, VR and games - maybe Neo and a some new IP's/games etc Sammy will declare it the best ever - even if they announce Knack 2 amongst that....
@kyleforrester87 The Internet will collectively groan if they spend more than 30 seconds on a Knack sequel. I don't know why they're making this. The brand has zero cachet.
@get2sammyb Hey if Watchdogs is getting another go, Knack certainly deserves one. People like Knack. Or at least they like the idea of Knack. They got one more chance.
Sequels to Knack and Watch Dogs! The editors of this site are going to be mad! Quick! Announce GTA killing Sleeping Dogs sequel for their sanity.
Said this before, but I think a sequel makes sense on several levels. It's a known IP, it wasn't critically acclaimed and now Cerny can save face, the guys who made it know the PS4 archetype now so can make a better game.
Just think of all the games that have gotten sequels, then people started looking back at the first as a tech demo. Uncharted 1 is nothing but a bullet sponge compared to the majesty that is Uncharted 2. Dark Cloud 2 added a great story to the village building tech demo that was the first game. Sometimes games - especially rushed to release new hardware titles - need a sequel to get it right.
They've gotten so much feedback on this game, both from those who liked it and those who hated it, I'd expect the sequel to be a really good game.
@MadAussieBloke haha this is funny
@cron_13 I'm a fan of knack and I support a sequel but...you're kidding, right?
The Knackening is coming! You will all change your tune when it pulls an Ass Creed 2
As someone who has beaten the game now 7 times, and bought multiple copies as gifts you could say I'm a big supporter in this. Was it average on pretty much every possible front? Absolutely. But it's a simple fun game that I support getting a sequel to rectify its reputation.
Social media suicide! This is a game no one asked for, in the vein of Nintendo's Metroid Defecation

It will be sad if Knack gets a sequel when there are more appealing IPs still waiting.
Ratchet proved there is a demand for cute, colourful games but they have to be good.
Knack is a decent game, yeah there was problems but a sequel would be great and I can see it happening as with Ratchet and Clank recent success, there is a growing market for these types of games.
New Crash content in the form of DLC Crash Skin confirmed for Knack 2
I still have Knack in my collection. It's a good game, I'm always puzzled at all the hate for it.
I'd like a sequel.
I think the game was fine, does it warrant a sequel so soon? No, but if it keeps Very happy and on board, I don't think they mind too much. They fund weirder games.
I liked it too
Thought it looked great and had a super story
So I'm up for a sequel
I'm surprised they'd invest any more time and resources into this I.P.
More platformers are never a bad thing, though. Although my hopes and anticipation are all directed toward the Bandicoot at the moment.
Even if you like Knack — which is totally fine by the way — surely resources could be better allocated elsewhere?
@get2sammyb What, pump some more money into Horizon? At any rate, if they are making a sequel I'm sure they had at least a quick chat around a table and figured it was a good idea
Game looked ok had I got a PS4 on day one I would have bought it. But by the time I got my PS4 there were a lot of other games I have got which have taken priority over this game. I see it on sale a lot and always think its going to be a PS Plus game. But even if it was I probably would not end up downloading it if its a massive file size. You can pick it up for about £6 so it is cheap these days. Would be happy for a sequel and would probably buy it.
The only way I can see this gaining favour is if the following occurs:
Mark Cerny comes out and says: "Yeah, Knack was a bit naff. But we're actually going to make it decent. Roll the trailer!" A good trailer follows.
Then Mark Cerny comes out and says: "Also, we got this thing which I used to work on before I discovered the secret of eternal youth." A ridiculously good Crash Bandicoot trailer rolls. Everyone loses their minds. Mark Cerny cries a singular tear onto his left cheek.
I think the concept of Knack has potential, the first game was pretty poor though even if for some reason I had fun with it (then again I also enjoyed Duke Nukem Forever and that was terrible). It's definitely only got one more shot, so a mediocre PS1 game wrapped in what would have been a poor looking/performing PS3 game simply won't do. Strangely enough I do think there is something to build upon and let's face other the only way is up
I love platformers a lot but knack was a tragedy of a game.
I really liked Knack The big problem I had with the game is the treasure Chest all being in the same Dumb cave!! With nothing to fight to get to them. If you had to explore the cave to find the chest while fighting roaming bad guys it would have been so much better maybe a new classic. Lets hope if there is a new Knack they fix this. The story and general game play was great.
@get2sammyb what I've noticed with knack is the vast majority of people on this board, as well as others and through talking with people in party or in person is that it's agreed to be a pretty average game, but it was undeniably fun and a lot believe it was worthy of a higher score (not by much) and doesn't deserve the lambasting it tends to get. This is also why I think a crash or Spyro reboot is tricky.
Go back and play the old ones that are looked on so fondly, I have in an effort to compare those verses knack, and you will find them to be eerily similar. Fun games, a story that tends toward who really cares, and gameplay that at times you see disconnect from what your inputs actually are (look at big knacks footwork/hands while moving or climbing).
Comparing a current game with older games is not the way to go, but just in a quick sort of overall view in what makes those game fondly looked at, and what makes knack looked at favorably by those who enjoyed it and you see a similar pattern though. All of them were questionable in story telling, input and movement gave a hint of input delay, you use the same few moves throughout with no real variety (like God of wars square square triangle pattern), but and here is the big but, they are undeniably stupid simple fun.
You start them up, go back to however old you were, and just have fun. In knacks case it was a breath of fresh air to just have something simple and fun, to play in front of my kid and not worry, to have her play it and smile and laugh. Sorry for the long post, but I firmly believe knack gets a really bad rap, even though it shares so many of the characteristics of games and characters that are looked at with rose colored glasses.
@kyleforrester87
If the Crash Bandicoot Skylanders rumors are true and then this gets announced, it won't go over well. It wouldn't really p*ss me off what happens but there's a lot of people who love the old Crash games, Sony has been teasing it like crazy and there's certainly more potential with that than there is in a Knack sequel.
