While we'd assumed that the industry was collectively done with remasters, it seems that there's still plenty of pent-up demand for a re-release of Demon's Souls on the PlayStation 4. And it could still happen according to director Hidetaka Miyazaki β it's just unlikely that From Software will be at the helm.
"The Dark Souls series is Bandai Namco's IP, and Demon's Souls and Bloodborne is Sony's IP," he told GameSpot. "Hence, the decision to do a remake or remastering is under their jurisdiction. For me and for From Software, I don't think we'll be involved with their happening, but it could happen through another developer."
Sony famously funded and published Demon's Souls in Japan, but passed on releasing it in Western territories. The title was eventually brought to North America by Atlus, and the rest is history. So, could the platform holder opt to remaster this classic β to make amends for old mistakes if nothing else? Stranger things have happened, but we won't be holding our breath.

Not any time soon I suspect. But if people go on about it for long enough, seems like a good possibility.
I wouldn't mind it actually. I started Demon's Souls when it released but didn't have the time for it. Bloodborne got me back into the series so I would find time for it if it came to PS4.
The one remaster I've been really wanting. It would be awesome to not fire up the ps3 to play it and I've yet to do a demons shieldess run. Count me in!
I would welcome it but I wonder if there will be publishing issues due to Sony not releasing it in the West.
@adf86 would there be issues though as sony own the ip?
@Mrskinner You would think that they wouldn't but I've been thinking about the Crash Bandicoot situation. Despite Activision owning the IP the Naughty Dog games have never been available on anything other then a PlayStation platform
so Sony must still have publishing rights for those games, so Atlus might have something similar.
My favorite of all the Souls games, a completely redone game would be preferable though.
Not a fan of this series but if I was, I'd probably be more interested in a sequel than a remaster. There's no denying the demand for a remaster though. In nearly every Bloodborne or Dark Souls 3 article I saw somebody asking for a return of Demon Souls and many times it was people asking for a remaster.
Come ooooooooon Japan studio or bluepoint games!
Of course blupoint games is the best developer for remastering it, their work on uncharted collection and gravity rush remaster is really great.
I would much rather see the resources being spent on a PS4 version of Wipeout 2048 and all of its DLC.
"we'd assumed that the industry was collectively done with remasters"
Ha.
Haha.
Hahahaha, hahahahahahah lol lol... oh that's good stuff.
I think this would make a great addition to the PS4 library, since Sony can use every exclusive it can get. But as an owner of the game already, they would need to do more that a quick port for me to double-dip. I've read alot of content was cut from the game, do a DC and add extra content to make PS4 version something special.
Demon souls was rubbish, who wants a remaster of that junk?
Its like you've all been hoodwinked into thinking an unfair checkpoint system and clunky characters make a great game.
A remaster I would be interested in, I was dissapointed with Bloodborne 2.......Sorry I meant DS3.
Hopefully this results in a Dark Souls remaster. I never played the game, and now that my PS3 has tragically died, I can't without a remaster, PlayStation Now, or buying a new PS3.
@themcnoisy
It's pretty much the trendy thing to do these days, love the Souls series.......poor FromSoftware, they are pretty much stuck in purgatory due to all these fanboys.
I always thought the games had interesting level design / atmosphere but everything else was rather lame.
@GraveLordXD
That's what it always comes down to with Souls fans, your not good enough.......your not a real gamer......you like your hand held......blah blah blah blah.
@themcnoisy I liked it 100 times better then Dark Souls i finished it a lot of times Dark Souls not so much.
@Gamer83 If the Remaster sells well im sure we get part 2.
@GraveLordXD I've finished challenging games and exactly like @sub12 mentions the games set in a great world, loads of atmosphere. With Demon Souls I went through 10-11 hours in when it was free on xbox live, never had any inclination to go back. Does nothing for me.
I'LL leave it on ps3 , i still play it and soon i'll make it up the stairs to the 1st castle. Those skeletons guy keep beating me up
@GraveLordXD You die to learn, fine I get that, I love Rogue Legacy and Ninja Gaiden. But Demon Souls is not the great game everyone bangs on about. It is clunky and it is more difficult than it needs to be due to bonfire placement. More power to you for wasting 1200 hours playing this junk. 1200 hours = 50 days. That's ridiculous and I just don't understand why everyone loves it. It's not even that difficult just flippin annoying.
@GraveLordXD Just for you Gravelord Im gonna play Bloodborne. Wish me luck π
