This could potentially be the last ever article we write about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which seems a little sad when you consider that we've been covering the game for over a year now. It's not hard to argue that CD Projekt Red's sublime role-playing release has raised the bar for the genre, and if you haven't yet delved into The Witcher's world, then you may want to look into snagging the Game of the Year Edition, which releases today on PlayStation 4.
Of course, you can't launch a game these days without throwing a snazzy trailer onto the web, so we've embedded it above for your viewing pleasure. Sure, it's one of those videos that likes to boast about how many awards the release has nabbed, but if you're fond of Geralt's adventure, you'll appreciate all the various gameplay clips that have been stuffed into the trailer.
So many memories...

Still the game of the generation for me. Nothing has come close to besting it as of yet. To be honest I can't see anything on the horizon wheich will beat it either.
Still haven't played it. Am I missing out on anything by just jumping into the third one without knowledge of the first two? I might pounce now that this GOTY edition is releasing.
@Ralizah
No, I jumped into three with playing the other two and it's my game of the generation thus far.
You'll be fine.
@Ralizah I've only played 3 but didn't feel too lost in the story. Although I would like to play others if I get chance to
Hands down the game of this gen IMO. Anyone that waited for the Game of the Year Edition is getting a heck of a deal.
Good to hear it can be understood on its own. I own the first two games, but haven't really gotten the energy up to play them.
I still haven't jumped in and bought this game either,I loved the 2nd one which I played on the 360 years ago but gave up and never finished it because I got completely stuck on a boss.Has this game got a difficulty setting?such as an `adult baby walkthrough`?
@Wazeddie22 Yep, it's got difficulty settings. The easiest one isn't a total cakewalk but it's easy enough that you don't have to worry too much about utilising all of your resources during combat unless you come across an enemy that's waaaay above your level.
@Ralizah Witcher hasn't aged well, it was pretty "dated" in design even when it was just released, but its charm and story made people enjoy it. You should just watch a montage on youtube with all the cutscenes and just read up on the story on some random wiki or website.
However, Witcher 2 was a great game all around and you should play it before 3 for two reasons, 1 there are certain characters which you will spend a lot of time in 2 that will be relevant and important in 3 and simply because gameplay wise, it's almost identical to Witcher 3. Pair the still great looking graphics with almost identical gameplay with a more linear focus and you have a fantastic game that lasts about 35 to 40 hours to fully complete. 2 especially has some game altering decisions that will cut a lot of content while making another chunk of content available and you'd need two playthroughs to see most of what the game has to offer, but I personally do not like replaying games to make decisions that do not fit with my way of thinking even if a certain decision changes more than 1/3 of the game, but for those who like replayability, there's certainly enough to justify at least 2 or 3 playthroughs.
@ShogunRok Easy it is.
That trailer makes me want a game called "GoT: North of the Wall" where we get to play as Benjen Stark.
@ShogunRok Ah that sounds promising then!Can't remember if the second one had difficulty settings or you just couldn't change them once started but I'd already played at least 15 hours then hit a brick wall.Was loving the game too.Will not make the same mistake this time.
@rjejr I'd be up for that! They so need to make a proper GOT game.
@Wazeddie22 Play it on Death March, you'll be fine.
played it like for 10 hours, then "(spoiler)first the aborted child and later the grandma house with the little guy in the swamp freaked me up" lol gotta play it now before uni , there are just so many things to do here in this game.
Amazing game. Everyone who likes these kinds of games should absolutely give it a shot.
Hmm....at the possible risk of starting a riot on here with all the pro-Witcher enthusiasts, Galvatron will publicly state the need to play Devils Advocate fairly whilst simultaneously relaying his own judgement of the game 😏
It's disappointing......in many respects. Chief amongst them is an unwieldy control which make me think of Snake from the PS1/2 era. An exaggeration, but not at the level required these days for a triple-AAA release.
The graphics weren't that great for a next-gen game, and I'm not surprised as it was also released for last-gen systems.
Moreover, the text, which at the time of the review, and errr still now, is shockingly small. Galvatron does not enjoy having to move much closer to the TV to read what is reams of text which are in the smallest font size it would get inside an Autobots' worst crevice 😧
I'll admit I sold my copy on so disappointed was I with this release and trundled back to The Phantom Pain, and never looked back.
I appreciate A LOT of forum members here and in the wider web rate this title highly, but if we look at true genre-defining games, we unanimously think of GTA, Halo, Gran Turismo, Doom, Half-Life 2 and Ico.....
I don't think Witcher 3 hits those heights, certainly comparing its technical and playability prowess against luminaries such as GTA / RDR, and also suffers from teams of tiny text which jolt you continuously out of its world at a sadistic rate. As a 10/10, it should still be entitle to flaws, but to me the unwieldy, unsatisfying combat caps it at 8, though these things can only be affected by subconscious enjoyment, and evidently you all enjoyed this whilst I lamented it lol
After patching the 1.30 thingy, I can now hang the Portrait Of Iris And Olgierd painting, but not the Starry Night Over The Pontar, sigh! Vimme's new look is awesome. Love this game sooooooooooo much!!! Glorious!!!
Glad I've held out this long, looking forward to playing it.
I just picked up a used X1 so I could play Witcher 2 on BC, it's $16 at GameStop.
