We hope that you weren't planning on playing some Destiny tonight, as the servers are being taken down and prepped for the game's next update for eight whole hours, starting now. The title will be playable again at around 00:00AM BST / 16:00PM PT, but you'll obviously have to download the aforementioned patch before you can hop back into your Guardian's shoes.
Bungie has said that you can expect patch notes later today. We already know that the update will include some balancing tweaks and support for the shooter's next expansion, Rise of Iron, which launches on the 20th of this month.
Are you looking forward to Rise of Iron? Can you forgive this hefty stint of maintenance? Count down the days to fresh loot in the comments section below.

Well thats thrown tonights plan to start operation horde engrams out the window. Well maybe I'll squeeze a couple of cheeky strikes in if its back up at midnight.
@Draythedestroyer I can't be sure but if I remember right, during year one on the cusp of year two I tried to exotic engram horde to get a step ahead and when year two came out I got all year one stuff so I might not be worth it! But don't hold me to that cause I'm not sure! I think the safest bet is to horde strange coins or three of coins just incase
And 8 hours is crazy I can't remember the last time it was down for so long D:
Fortunately, I managed to get my 3 Hard KF raids completed yesterday so wasn't planning on playing tonight...
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi
Well I guess it's to be expected as the dlc is coming closer!
Still freaking hurts though, I'm way to dependant :')
Can't wait for rise of iron ;D
i know this not a commonly held opinion, but for me, the taken king totally ruined destiny.. i haven't played since about 4 weeks after the expansion came out.. and that's after 600+ hours in year one. best in class shooting mechanics, ruined by some bungie stubbornness and stupid design decisions.
14gb update file for destiny right now. so everyone has to download RoI whether they're buying it or not. bungie really needs to improve its delivery mechanisms for Destiny 2..
@Leeham @Bad-MuthaAdebisi yeah I know. Its the legendary marks for breaking down gear I'm interested in (I'm assuming vendors will stock decent year 3 gear for legendary marks). I agree it could be a massive waste of my time but then I quite like playing Destiny so its ok. Its just for fun really well unless your waiting on decent leg drop those 304 boots are killing my light level ☺
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi As long as they NEVER add matchmaking to Raids, I don't care! Nothing worse than having to carry some scrub, who can't/won't follow instruction, can't be kicked, or worse still kicks players at the very end, just before the loot drop and ruins your experience. Its bad enough having to do strikes with scrubs - one reason I don't bother with the playlists but not Raids!
If people can't be assed to make some effort in finding people, refuse to communicate and/or co-ordinate - then tough!
As I have said many times, if people here, including yourself, want to Raid and/or need help with it, we have a forum here with a thread to ask/arrange a time. Even if we only get 2-3 people here, we can probably find a few others at the time. I never mind going through again after I have beaten it to help out friends either BUT I refuse to do it with random matchmade scrubs just looking for the loot but not prepared to work as part of a team!
it just damn churlish not to have matchmaking in raids, in my opinion. LFG or destiny raid finder or any of the other methods is not much more than matchmaking by manual means in my opinion. i've had some pretty woeful groups or useless tubes from LFG that matchmaking couldn't be any worse. there are things they could do within matchmaking so that it's not totally random. restrict it by latency, by language (so you don't get 6 people who all speak different languages), ensure there is a fireteam leader, kick-voting for the annoying prat who keeps dying all the time, minimum gear requirments, only enable it for people with mics... and so on.. they could enable it only after a month or two after the raid is available. there's certainly no reason not to enable it for atheon, crota by now. and of course if you don't want to matchmake raids, you don't have to.
there's always been a certain elitism attached to raids imo.. less than 1 in 4 have completed any raid, and that falls to 1 in 10 for kings fall. seems stupid to restrict the vast amount of your player base from content on some haughty principle.
@leucocyte - succinctly put, Galvatron concurs. I love Destiny but to be frank I'm not a fan of headsets and the elitist attitudes of those in raids put me off them - a massive shame when as a gamer the raids are evidently the best thing in the game!
And I agree there is no difference between looking up peeps on LFG and sending a quick invite through your phone and being accepted and playing within 10 mins - and matchmaking which will do the same thing autonomously.
Rise of Iron I will most certainly buy - I've bought all expansions thus far as the supreme gunplay had me at hello 👌
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi You just want to see a list of naughty words don't you.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi you'll need to explore more planets
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi me neither. Tried the raid and it was the last time I played til the other day. Give me a shout if you fancy giving it a go. I'm back on now.
