Popular character-based team shooter Overwatch is having a free weekend on PlayStation 4, and everyone's invited - even if you don't have an active PlayStation Plus subscription. What's more, the entire game will be yours to enjoy - all heroes, stages, and modes of play included - and any progress that you make during the free weekend will carry over if you decide to buy the release proper. Not bad, eh?
The free weekend begins on Friday, 9th September, at 19:00PM BST / 14:00PM ET / 11:00AM PT, and it'll run until Monday, 12th September at 12:00PM BST / 07:00AM ET / 04:00AM PT. We'll most likely be penning a reminder near the end of next week, but feel free to mark the date on your calendar just in case.
Are you up for some free Overwatch? Have you been keeping an eye on Blizzard's shooter? Start ranting about overpowered characters in the comments section below.

Id be willing to give this a bash, but would it show up in my trophy list?
Maybe I'm ignorant, but these free weeks just kinda confirm that the notion of PS Plus is nothing more than a gimmick to give Sony (and Microsoft with Live) more money in the bank..........Mario Kart 8 played great online and they weren't knocking on my door for 60 bucks.
Been really tempted to get this, I only really held back because I find it hard to fit any gaming in over the summer. Hope it makes my mind up for me.
I find it wrong that online only games need Playstation Plus/Xbox Live
Having to pay to play games online sucks but it's a necessary evil
@sub12 @Xaessya Compared to Plus, Live is more worth it imo
@gingerfrog it's overrated crap, just my opinion of course.
Free online weekend and everyone comes out to bash Sony lol
I have no idea how good this, from what little I've seen it looked crap and don't really understand the attraction but I'll be honest I've not seen much at all off it. Alot of people seem to rate it too so I might aswell give if a bash! But probably have too really impress me too spend money on this rather than wait for BF1.
@PostmanPatinator Definitely give it a go. I haven't played much of it myself but I have a couple of friends who weren't interested at all, and after trying the beta, they got absolutely hooked.
@ShogunRok
Sounds sweet but I need more information. Does it include NA? Size of download? Can I get the demo or whatever this is now?
I did try Overwatch when they had the open beta it was ok but I had some issues with it. There are enough shooters coming out in the next few months to keep me happy to will give this a miss.
@Kidfried Yes you pay for Nintendo online through buying the game at the same uncovered price as Sony. The point he is making is that to actually GO online on Nintendo systems you don't need to pay that much again.
It's not perfect but it's free.
And on that note thank God this isn't as I thought it would be. I was expecting "Buy Over watch and have a free weekend where that 2nd barrier to playing the game doesn't exist"
I have 350+ hours into this game i'd say its worth a try
@SmashbrosFtw1306
For all we know your a guy who has 300+ hours in sonic 06 ride to hell retribution, so we can't trust your words. >:3
@Bliquid I don't find the gameplay satisfying, the few maps are pretty boring, its multiplayer only which doesn't appeal to me, the cartoon characters aren't to my taste either, what I most value in games isn't 'polish' most AAA games are plenty polished for me. My opinion is that the ultra hype that lots of fans give this game is sufficient evidence for me to conclude it's overrated, there are plenty of games that I don't personally enjoy but can perfectly understand the hype. This games hype however completely baffles me.
@Bliquid I would add though that my label of 'crap' is just a flippant summation of my experience, it's not actually crap but I didn't enjoy the game at all really. 'crap' shouldn't be taken too seriously.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi overrated crap have you even played it mate
@Xaessya I have never played either of those games why is that even relevent there are very few games that i would put 300+ hours into and still keep on going
@SmashbrosFtw1306 yes I have, I managed about 15 hours I think, its now gathering dust, my PSN trophy list shows 4% completion if you require verification.
People sure feel strongly about this game. For what it's worth, I've never had so much fun with a FPS and would suggest anyone on the fence to download and give it time. Took a good few hours to click with me but now I play every day
@Bliquid nope, I don't buy hype, I bought it out of curiosity and hope, I had already watched several hours of gameplay and read a few reviews. It fell flat. My opinion that it is overrated isn't out of place at all, it's informed and calculated from my personal experience which is disparate to the online critical acclaim.
@Bliquid I love the game but I have to agree with@Bad-MuthaAdebisi and that it is overrated but then again it seems every Blizzard game is but that's just the nature of the beast when it comes to a game by Blizzard.
Oooh that's good. I'm gonna try it out. The character designs and it's whole shtick looks a little grating but it looks like the gameplay is good enough to outweigh that - would be nice to see if it does before splashing the cash on the full game though, so this is good news.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi not saying your a liar but 15 hours for 4% sounds a bit fishy i have 350+ and at 98% (Would be 100% but there is a certain trophy i don't even want to discuss)
@Kidfried trust? 15 hours is not 4% thats fact
@Bliquid "Overwatch is one of the most polished games you'll ever find in this sea of sadness called world."
You need to turn that frown upside down and play some more walking development manuals.
I was going to pick this up earlier in the year so this free weekend will be a good introduction to the game. Strange you don't need plus for a number of these one offs and alpha / betas recently.
@sub12 on pc gaming online is free, I see psplus as a way to get some free random games every month with some additional benefits with better deals on the store - if you see it as playing online, well its actually free on PC so what are you paying for really?
@Bliquid Just cause I said it's overrated doesn't mean it's a bad game nor do I hate it. I play it alot in fact and it's one of those games that I will play on and off again as long as the servers are up.
But let's face it if anyone else but Blizzard made this game they would be getting slack. For one thing it's very simplistic which is not a bad thing and I know Blizzard wanted a game that everyone could get into. There really aren't that many maps and the variety of game types is small. It seems that it's either an escorts mission or a capture the flag type and sometimes it's a combo of the two.
Yes I know Blizzard has long term ideas for this game but I just can't help feel that if any other company made this game it wouldn't be as big as it is, but because it's Blizzard....
@Bliquid if you're giving it high praise because it's polished, that's the minimum
Not been interested in this at all and having seen my young nephew play it I have to say it looks just like any other multiplayer shooter..having said that,I'll give it a go as its free
