Hmmmmm, we're not quite sure what to make of this one. According to Korean publication Game Focus, PlayStation 3 masterpiece Red Dead Redemption is being remastered for the PlayStation 4. The site doesn't note a specific source, but claims that the rumour has been floating around since last month, with whispers from North America supposedly confirming the remaster's existence.
Perhaps even more interesting is that the publication hints that the remaster will be announced during Sony's PlayStation Meeting this Wednesday, but honestly, we find that a little hard to believe. In an event that's surely built around the PS4 Neo's unveiling, why would Sony throw a remaster of a last-gen title into the mix?
Of course, rumours are still swirling that Red Dead Redemption 2 is on the cusp of being officially announced, so we suppose that the remaster's reveal could go hand in hand with that. We guess that we'll just have to wait and see.
Would you be up for a remaster of Rockstar's super popular Western? Watch out for those bloody cougars in the comments section below.

They could do an Activision and only make the remaster available when buying RDR2 for £69.99, but I'm not sure 2K are that nasty.
Time will tell, it wouldn't surprise me to learn that both are in development as the rumours/map images and so on have been in circulation for so many months.
Red Dead Redemption: Remastered?
Half Life 3 confirmed!
I wouldn't be surprised given GTA V's success.
Agree that it only makes sense if it is hand in hand with a RDR2 announcement. But really what would be the point? You'd expect any RDR2 game to be a "bigger and better" version of RDR1 which would make a remaster redundant, unless the sequel is a longggg way off and they want a stop gap between releases. But what have Rockstar been up to since GTA5 dropped? (Aside from the GTA5 Online support). Surely if they announce RDR2 it won't be too far off release?
@kyleforrester87 To be fair GTA was made by Rockstar North and Red Dead was made by Rockstar San Diego and they've been quiet since they released the Undead Nightmare expansion.
You may find it hard to believe that Sony would announce a Red Dead remaster at the PlayStation meeting but it's worth it for the Rockstar association alone, as was proven with GTA 5.
I would only buy it if there was a mode that brings the animal people back
It seemed like a really good game, couldn't get into it, quite liked undead nightmare or whatever it was called. Probably put 20 30 hours in just trotting around on my flame horse. I think I'll wait for the sequel.
Please do!
I would rather a sequel but if this is all we get for the time being i would be interested as the original is a classic
@kyleforrester87 Yeah, I think this would make a lot more sense if it was treated as a stopgap until the inevitable RDR2.
Yes! Gimme! What if they use it to showcase the power of the Neo? Here's Red Dead on PS3...and here's is Red Dead Remastered on PS4K!
Glorious!
I was going to rebuy this for the PS3 as it was an enjoyable game even though I am not fond of westerns. I would rather hear that they were making a RDR2
@kyleforrester87 I never understood the Fallout 3 (BC) with Fallout 4 offer on XB1 for similar reasons. Its not like these games are 'small' but offer 100's of hours and replayability - so why give something that can take the focus off the 'new'. At least with the Fallout offer, it was only on XB1 and not a remaster.
With the CoD4 offer, I guess it shows how far the franchise has progressed. I know some may not like the direction of recent titles and prefer the more simplistic era but it will give people a chance to experience CoD4 without all the hackers - which obviously won't affect things like RDR.
RDR was a great game but I would rather see a new RDR game.
@dryrain Don't you mean RDR3? The first was Red Dead Revolver, the second was Red Dead Redemption. How about the third being Red Dead Revenge?
Yeah that would be great and all but a new game would be better.
That'll be one duffer of an announcement if it's just a remaster. I really don't understand why so many games that were in HD are being remastered at only a slightly higher rate of visual fidelity.
@BAMozzy think he means RDR2 as in a follow up/sequel or prequel to Redemption, not the whole series.
This will happen right after Mass Effect...
Don't get me wrong I think Red Dead Redemption is better than any of the recent GTA games but I've barely got time to play new games let aline those I've already finished
@Jwillthaghost stay on topic please.
Think I'm done with remasters. I was more OK with it at the beginning of this gen, but now it's getting ridiculous. Bioshock and Skyrim will be full price games I assume? At this rate they're going to redo every major PS3 game, it's kind of sad really.
Sonys answer in part to not having BC on ps4!! Would not spend more than $20. Just picked it up on xone via BC. That'll hold me over! Sorry Sony!!
Just give us another horse hunt and plant collect with its Southern charm.
Sony it is time for folders now.
Can someone explain how whispers from North America supposedly confirm the remaster's existence. Are we also to assume this article is also confirmed as true due to the original whisper confirmation. This is a pyramid of paper tissues.
Confirmation is a strong word. Confirmation is only true when someone who has the authority to confirm it, actually does so. We can have several facts aligning to indicate it might be true. But that is still not confirmation. Just a high probability as we saw with the Neo rumour until Sony told us it existed.
Personally, I think there is a high probability we will see a RDR remaster as a way to get people excited for RDR 2, because Rockstar will have ported the RDR game engine over to PS4 and XB1 when starting work on RDR 2 as a prototype test.
The rumour of RDR 2 being used as a demonstration for the Neo announcement was a bit far fetched, so maybe that rumour got distorted in transit and it's really the RDR remaster that will be shown singing and dancing on Neo.
If this is true, I will skip it. I loved the game but I already have it on PS3.
I got the game a few months ago. I'd rather see a sequel (which I'm pretty confident will happen at some point), not another remaster.
Id play it within a heart beat.
100% would buy
It's a remaster I actually want! Please be true...
I'll take it...as I await a sequel! Since we're at it, I'll also take the following as remastered or collections:
Overlord 1 and 2
Mortal Kombat (PS3) ---or just add Freddy into the newest one
Ty the Tasmanian Tiger 1-3 (come on EA, give them another chance)
The Original Spyro The Dragons (the first 5...Legends in a Trilogy)
Dark Cloud 1 and 2
Wild Arms (a big collection)
Medieval (all of them)
Twisted Metal (an ultimate collection)
Parapet The Rapper (a nice collection)
Jak And Daxter Collection (with Daxter and Lost Frontier added)
A Large Ratchet And Clank collection
Playstation All Stars Battle Royale (with everything added)
Mod Nation Racers (with everything added)
Buzz (a big collection)...with the announcement of a new version!!!
Yup, that would be my dream collection for PS4!!!!
Great game and a game i recommend, but for me it is just another PS4 remaster that i have multiple plays of, still have the game, and still have a PS3 if i want to play it again.
Whatever R* is working on i want it to be something new. Red Dead 2, GTA 6, or a GTA 5 single player dlc with a new city is what i want.
The Skyrim remaster is another story. I am looking forward to a purchase as i passed on it last gen because of technical problems on the PS3. That is if Skyrim does not have technical problems on the PS4.
I hope its true - one of few classics from last gen I havent got around to. In fact I havent touched it the last 3 years [even though I wanted to] in anticipation of a remaster so fingers crossed this is true.
So sick of trying to avoid spoilers on its great story!!
I would snap it up in a second. It's one of my favorite games of last gen. It had a truly fantastic narrative with colorful characters. The moments where John rides off to Mexico by Jose Gonzalez and back home to Compass by Jamie Lidell are some of my favorite in all of gaming. Rockstar always nails the soundtracks.
I never got to finish this before my ps3 died, so would welcome it.
It'll probably be available as a bundle with the new RDR. I don't see them making a full on remaster, especially since the original is already backwards compatible over on the Xbone.
@JLPick you can already play Dark Cloud & Dark Chronicle on PS4
never really understood the hype around RDR it was a decent game but at times it felt like a massive drag to me
ive said before on here i think the remasters are getting stupid and like @GamerDad66 said they just seem to be rereleasing every big game from last gen - if they went back and remade PS1 & PS2 games did proper remaster jobs on them, games that graphically and controls wise dont hold up well today id be much more willing to part with my cash
as for what R* are doing it took them 5 years to get Red Dead Redemption out of the door - if the remaster is released along side a trailer i wouldnt be surprised at a 2017 release
@shogunrok " why would Sony throw a remaster of a last-gen title into the mix?"
My theory is it's probably a PS4K exclusive. Or just a PS4 exclusive in general.
So wait some are saying the remaster of RDR would be ps4 exclusive
And with rockstar owing PlayStation an exclusive could this be there way of settling that if it is it will drive Xbox fanboys nuts
@justerthought If it's something people are excited for it doesn't matter if their is little evidence for it. Wishes can quickly turn into beliefs.
