Remember that Shadow of the Tomb Raider rumour we reported on earlier? The ever-reliable Jason Schreier of Kotaku has suggested that it's legit. But there's more: Eidos Montreal, perhaps best known for the recent Deus Ex releases, may be taking the reins of the franchise from Crystal Dynamics. Well, the name did leak on a Canadian subway, after all.
We're not exactly sure what Kotaku knows, but its write-up states that it's "heard" that Eidos Montreal will "helm" Lara Croft's next adventure. The massive developer has served as a support studio for the British archaeologist's previous outings, but it would be a shock for it to take control of the series entirely.
Then again, Crystal Dynamics has been working tirelessly on Tomb Raider for over a decade now. Perhaps we can finally get that sequel to The Horde that everyone's been asking for?

Maybe Eidos Montreal will hire some decent writers and voice actors...
@DLB3 Strangely enough, I wouldn't be surprised if a new developer made Uncharted 5...
It shouldn't happen, but the franchise keeps selling more and more units. I don't think Sony's going to be able to resist...
I wouldn't be surprised if Crystal D is working on a next gen Tomb Raider, kinda how Rocksteady kept working on Arkham Knight, while WB Montreal released Origins. We could see Eidos Montreal's TR around 2018, and then Crystal D's PS5 TR around 2020.
Well it's rumoured that the next Deus Ex might not be from Eidos Montreal so there could be something in it.
Quite frankly this has me worried about the future of Deus Ex. Mankind Divided, despite being an excellent game, didn't sell well (in large part because of the idiotic publisher) if Eidos Montreal is taking the reins of Tomb Raider what does that mean for Deus Ex? Frankly I think both series are in good hands as it is. The poor sales aren't due to game quality but can be pointed directly at SquareEnix and its idiotic business decisions. I wish these two developers could get out from under this absolutely horrendous company that is a poison to the game industry more so than even EA and Activision combined and I mean that 100%.
@adf86
Not that I don't believe you, just would be interested in a source. Any news on a new Deus Ex is something I'm interested in.
Gex reboot. You heard it here first
@Gamer83
My thoughts exactly. The new Tomb Raiders seem like fun games, but my main takeaway from this leak was "Ok, so what about the next Deus Ex?"
i'm ok with this if Crystal Dynamics is making another game and doesn't have the time or resources to do another Tomb Raider as well
and if the are it had better be a new Legacy of Kain game
I think i read somewhere that a sequel to deus ex was already in devlopment before mankind divided was released, so I'm hoping that there is truth in that. The game left so many story threads open, so I am hoping to be playing a sequel sooner rather than later.
I haven't played Rise yet but thought the first reboot did well to give the series a shot in the arm. I hope the decision is not because of sales because in this case, I think sales has nothing to do with the quality of the game and I would love to at least round out a trilogy rather than another reboot.
@Gamer83 No source I'm afraid, the best I could find was Jim Sterling who claimed he spoke to a developer on Deus Ex. He apparently told him that the microtransactions were added at the last minute under the orders from Square's marketing people. And that they wanted the story of Mankind Divided to be a mass effect style trilogy (which may explain the abrupt ending) with the second already been a year into development by a different studio. If this is true then it would fit with Square Enix's desire to make a fair number of their games episodic, like Hitman and FFVII.
@DLB3
I can imagine... something something Golden Abyss.
@DLB3 sony bend already made an Uncharted game. on PS vita.
@get2sammyb - sadly UC4 is actually the lowest selling of the franchise so far.. though 5m (ish) is hardly failure. but considering the last of us is around 11-12m (admittedly having the benefit of remaster sales), it's not really a surprise that ND wants to move on to something else. sony doesn't seem to stay as attached to their franchises as much as some other publishers, i wouldn't be entirely surprised if there isn't another UC.
@leucocyte Errr... It's the fastest selling entry thus far to my knowledge. It's only been out six months. Where are you getting your figures?
@DLB3
That's the only bar for which they can be judged...
Another way I could phrase that is: better Bend Studio take the reins than someone who isn't passionate or hasn't developed at title in the franchise before.
@get2sammyb NPD and chart-track. even by week 10, numbers are tracking behind 2/3. i think UC4 had a much faster lead, but a much shorter tail.. the others came out around october'ish if i recall, so had the whole christmas period bonanza. sony will probably bundle the hell out of UC4 over the next couple of months though.
I wonder what Crystal Dynamics are doing if not another Tomb Raider.
I'd like them to keep working on do sex games but I heard mankind divided sold softer than human revolution so maybe this is just the way it goes.
