If you were hoping to snag a PlayStation VR headset from Amazon UK prior to Christmas… Well, don't even bother trying: the site has exhausted all of its stock until Early 2017. While it temporarily said a similar thing about the PlayStation 4 Pro, it appears it's dead serious about Sony's virtual reality accessory – the product page has been showing as out of stock all day.
The Japanese giant had said that it was upping production of the device to meet demand, but it looks like those units have been allocated elsewhere. It also recently noted that sales are "on track", but didn't provide an update on the product's numbers. Either way, it looks like stock is the limiting factor here rather than consumer interest – the product is pretty much impossible to find all around the globe.

I was in 2 different Target stores last week and each had 2 PSVR boxes on the shelf. I wouldn't be surprised if they were out of stock in the UK, and wouldn't be surprised if they were back in stock before Christmas either. As someone who has done a lot of Christmas shopping on Amazon over the past few years, things seem to come and go in stock all the time. Not a console, just pointing out that they are a very fluid company.
Bodes well for the vr future.
Here's a question @get2sammyb ; What should I buy the PS4 Pro like my mates @kyleforrester87 and @BAMozzy or the PSVR like my mates @neolit and @simon_fitzgerald
I need some advice and I know you have done a ton of coverage but I still dont know which one to get. I'm working double hard in work to get one of the above so wouldn't want to be let down.
@themcnoisy PSVR, I'm literally getting a Ps Pro in the hope FF15 runs a bit better, otherwise I expect very little benefits until I get a 4K Tv next year. PSVR on the other had will be instant gratification, plenty of shorter experiances which might work better for you plus the kids will like it. That said I still think it's worth waiting until some of these VR games end up sales because they still seem a bit pricey for what they are.
You've benefited from demoing the VR though so you have an idea if you will like it or not.
@rjejr Yeah, I was in my local GAME store in the UK a few days ago and they had big posters outside the front door saying they had plenty of PlayStation VR stock for walk-in customers. Hopefully that's more of an indication that people don't want to buy from GAME than it is PlayStation VR not doing well!
@kyleforrester87 Yeah I may end up with psvr and upgrading my hard drive on my ps4 to 2tb. I'm not being funny but my ps4 hd seems constantly full now. But with ff15 coming out that is a great point. Do I want a sub standard version or the hell yeah look at this version? Hmmmmm.
@themcnoisy PS4 Pro could enhance both your everyday and VR experience and work with every PS4 game/peripheral etc you own - meaning its essentially a one-off purchase as its just replacing your console.
PSVR on the other hand brings something new and unique to the PS4 but may not be an everyday option. The headset alone costs as much as the Pro (if you can find one atm) but then you need the camera and Move (another £100). Unless you buy games for it - adding even more to the cost, you have essentially bought a 'TV' to sit over your eyes where PQ is actually worse than your TV.
Its impossible for me to recommend you buy one or the other even though I don't have VR (yet) as I don't know your situation, your gaming habits etc.
What it comes down to is do want to enhance your current PS4 experience now or add to your existing experience but that may not be at the 'best' level (visually and/or frame rates)? Will you get the most (or more) from one or the other?
I am going for the Pro first because VR seems very expensive at the moment - both in hardware and games. I also have a 4k HDR TV so will get the most from the Pro as its something I can use everyday and will instantly improve many of the games I own and want to get where as VR may end up gathering dust for long periods of time and doesn't have any games I 'really' want right now. I know that if and when I do get VR, the Pro will deliver the 'best' experience too.
@themcnoisy FF15 could be a load of rubbish so unless you're planning on getting a 4K TV next year it's a big commitment for something you will not benefit much from. Perhaps get FF15 and see how it runs on your PS4 then get a Pro if you aren't happy with it.
Again, my only reason for not getting PSVR is that I want some of these games that are currently (for example) £20 to be £10. When I do get a headset I plan on buying up a ton of games at once with it.
@Neolit "To be honest, I am somewhat concerned about the effects of this tech on our societies if and when this becomes more accessible and broadly used."
Get yourself down to inner city Liverpool. Half of those people are in a constant haze, must have been using vr for years.
@themcnoisy : what are you trying to say ?
on the plus side , at least lots of people will be able to keep their Christmas dinner down .
@themcnoisy @Neolit People live on their phones now, even when they're outside. People are already "plugged-in" and tuned out from what's happening around them, so I'm not even sure there will be a difference with the rise of VR :/
Just go to Argos in the UK, they've got plenty. Just checked the website and it's stocked near me.
@themcnoisy - I think it depends on how risk averse you are. VR, in my opinion is great, but it is a risky purchase. It may, at least in this gen, get dropped or not get the software to match the hardware. It is a brand new way to play and experience games.
PS Pro is a guaranteed win, in the sense that even if it doesn't do well, games will still look great, it is just that the games will be the same as launch but with some bells and whistles.
So basically, PSVR = a new device but risky, PS Pro = upgrade what you have, no risk.
I'm getting the PSVR when the game's available are more suited to me, with the exception of a few they all look like gimmiky game's atm. Going with the PRO at launch and may very well get PSVR in 3-6 month's maybe, no brainer for me.
Interestingly it seems like my local GAME is fully sold out now. I dropped in this morning and to my surprise this older gentleman (must've been about mid 70's) was trying to buy a PSVR. The GAME rep said that they won't have anymore units in till after Xmas and was still trying to get him to fork out a £20 deposit for when they have more in stock.
Sony really dropped the ball here. They've got to keep those units coming especially during the holiday season. They probably could've even bundled the Pro and the PSVR together.
They had a few in a Game I went into.
Some guy who worked in said game store told me the money they charge for trying out the VR goes to a children's charity.
I have to confess this is the one time where I really regret being all against the psvr when it was first announced and not bothering with preordering one for day 1.Because since trying one in Game last week it's all I think about..(that reality is so much better than ours)and even though I gave a deposit for twenty quid in Game they said they had no idea when more stock would come in only that it should be before Christmas..
Like @xMEADx says I noticed Argos had some the other day but not sure I'd end up getting my deposit back from game if I bought one somewhere else..oh and Argos have sold out now anyway..
@Jake3103 All I can add is here in Birmingham and in Dudley, Game are sold out until December. I haven't seen a single game shop with a PSVR in stock yet. And Amazon sold out also you should let people know where your game shop is because it seems like it's the only one in the UK with stock.
@SnowstormX Fair enough. The store I was talking about was in Edinburgh.
Amazon.com has stock and will ship UK ($75 shipping/tax to Spain for the 2-4 day one, didn't check the others)
Game here has stock too. They won't ship to UK. But they are out there, if you want to get on board.
ehhhh...
Saying that it's stock that's limiting sales rather than consumer choice is a bit of a stretch. Surely it's limiting demand somewhat but even if there was an infinite supply of goggles I doubt the sales are going to be too much more than they are already. Maybe they'd have sold 600000 instead of 500000.
I'm still concerned this isn't enough to be a viable platform. Outselling everyone else is all fine and well but they were never selling at a rate to make it a viable platform in the first place.
I mean the Wii U and Vita struggle to get support and they have 13 or 14 million units in the wild. I can only hope that VR takes off enough the developers see it as an opportunity to make money and want to invest in the platform. One thing's for sure though they're going to have to stop with this exclusive nonsense because even if you combined every VR platform sold its still probably wouldn't be a viable option, but it would certainly be more appealing to than just selling on one of three or 4 different VR platforms.
