BlizzCon 2016 is underway, and Blizzard has wasted no time in revealing its future plans for Diablo III. To start with, the developer announced an update dubbed 'The Darkening of Tristram'. There aren't any real details on how this will all work just yet, but according to VentureBeat, the update will remake the original Diablo within Diablo III. Sounds crazy, doesn't it? We're certainly looking forward to hearing more.
On top of that, Blizzard will be releasing a brand new class next year. As speculated following a recent artwork leak, the Necromancer is heading to Diablo III, and you can see the undead-raising hero in action in the trailer that we've embedded above.
So, it looks like we're not quite getting a new expansion, but it's nice to see that Blizzard is still so keen to support its four year old title. Are you looking forward to any of this? Raise an undead horde in the comments section below.
Update: The Darkening of Tristram will be a free update for Diablo III: Reaper of Souls. It'll add a 16 floor dungeon that houses the four big bosses of the original Diablo. It'll even add visual filters that make the graphics look all grainy and retro. Not bad!

Excellent. Diablo is one of my all time faves. Hopefully there's an option for up-rezzed non-grainy, non-retro graphics.
@DiddyWahDiddy Yeah by the sounds of it, the filters are just optional.
Boop!
Hmm okay! New class is great, not sure a new 16 floor dungeon will cut the mustard though? Nice it's free but would honestly rather put £40 down on a big new chunk of game. Not sure I can stomach another run through without at least a new chapter, even with a new class.
Hmm maybe there is a bit more to it? Seems like the Diablo 1 patch is coming out next week with Necomancer next year. Maybe some more announcements to follow.
Blizzard does it again. One reason Blizzard is one of my favorite devs!!!!
Wow, that's amazing.
We get a chance to fight the legendary bosses of Diablo lore.
This is a phenomenal way to celebrate 20 years of Diablo, can't wait for more details.
Day One for Necromancer DLC, but I might needed to delete my mules to get back two character slots.
Luckily, I upgraded to PS4 from Digital UEE on PS3 with bonus character slots (15 total, I think).
I have a small army of characters...two of each class.
This is great! I picked up Diablo 3 a couple of months back on a sale, yet to play it. There's going to be so much content when I finally get to it.
@GamerDad66 I might be wrong, but usually new classes come with new slots so you don't have to delete anything. Of course you only get one extra per class so if you want two of the same class for some reason you're probably out of luck.
I'll pay for a full remake of diablo 1 using diablo 3 engine.
Great update but the problem of modded weapons is still not being addressed. Playing randomly with players who have weapons with a million damage is ruining the game.
@dryrain So then don't play with random players.
@Tasuki Not really the ideal solution, is it? Would be nice if they could solve the problem. "Getting stabbed when you go out? Stay at home!"
They might be working on something regarding modders, because Blizz is bringing Seasons to console...which would be a joke with modders running wild.
