Someone light the Damien McFerran signal: Double Dragon 4 is coming to the PlayStation 4. Yeah, this one is news to us as well, but a trailer has been uploaded to Arc System Works' official YouTube account showing off the first footage of the throwback sequel. This one looks to be adopting an 8-bit graphics style, so Double Dragon Neon fans may want to look the other way.
According to the video description, this one will see you once again taking control of Billy and Jimmy after the events of Double Dragon II. It's set to release on 30th January in order to coincide with the series' 30th anniversary. There's a full website through here if you want to learn more about the game, but do check out the trailer above for some gameplay footage as well.

Nice, double dragon 2 is one of my favorite games in the nes era. It's good that dd 4 is like dd2 rather than dd 1 or dd 3.
Blah.
I grew up on 8-bit but I really don't prefer the style. Very few games can get away with the 8-bit to me. Shovel Knight and Mega Man 9/10 are about the only games I can think of at the moment.
Why not 16-bit? Man this 8-bit fad needs to hurry up and pass.
I want it assuming it is fairly (low) priced though.
Yesterday my bro and me were playing Neon, so this one is welcome too.
Double Dragon IV already came out years ago on SNES it's called Super Duble Dragon. In fact there was even a Double Dragon V which was a tournament fighting game like Street Fighter or MK called the Shadow Falls. So wouldn't this be Double Dragon VI?
Wasn't expecting that. I kinda wish it wasn't 8-bit, but I still may get it.
I'll gladly pay 60$ for this!!
(said no one ever)
@Tasuki I thought the same thing but they're calling it Double Dragon 4. shrugs
I would rather another Neon.
I thought it was Bimmy and Jimmy XD
@Splat Agree. I also wish they would port that over to the PS4 but with Majesco now gone I don't see it happening.
Double Dragons 4: The Impostor Bimmy
Considering there's been a Double Dragon V for years now and no Double Dragon IV, I'm glad this one is coming out to fill the gap.
8 bit is too rudimentary, I understand the Nes Classic cash grab - but in reality there's no 8 bit games that cut it anymore. Like silent films with word boards in between the clips, a glimpse at a past long since forgotten. The better beat em ups are 16bits and beyond.
Can we have streets of rage 4 please Sega and stick half the team from virtua fighter 5, a quarter from the sonic mania team and a few heads from alien isolation and footy manager and boom, best game ever!
I liked de Double Dragon games as a kid but really liked Neon because it waz hillarious
I'm familiar with the series, but I've only played Neon (demo only). Streets of Rage and Scott Pilgrim are still my first picks for beat em ups, but I'll see how this turns out.
@EXP There's was a IV it was called Super Double Dragon.
I'm a bit disappointed. I'd have much prefer it had followed in the style of the arcade original which is much more iconic. Either that or the C64 version by Melbourne House
And for those wishing the 8-bit style to go away - I have no idea why you would want there to be less diversity in gaming. Afterall, 8-bit presentation no longer has to be accompanied by 8-bit gameplay.
When people ask me my fav game i always reply with the street fighter series and double dragon 1&2 arcade versions. Grew up in the 80s OBSESSED with dd in the arcades. Its purpostrous that DD has never been continued (& honored) in the arcade style. Instead making a mockery of its brutal legacy. Neon though fun was just a ridiculous parody. Id pay $60 for a proper Double Dragon 4 (arcade version, done in the style of part 1&2). Though I'm definitely not saying this looks like a mockery, it looks incredible. Looooved dd2 on nes. I wish THIS is what we got instead of neon. This honors the awesome dd2 nes. Here's hoping they do the same with the original arcade versions. While they're at it go ahead and make a SUPER double dragon 2 (snes style)
I would have preferred Neon 2 personally but I will likely still get this.
I kept expecting the trailer to cut to the real game. That looks terrible.
Darn, I enjoyed Neon with the 80's presentation and music, but I'll have to pass on this one..
