Metacritic has put together its annual industry summary, revealing that the PlayStation 4 was the console with the most quality exclusives in 2016. According to the site's data, the system landed 13 exclusives with a Metascore of 75 or above, while the Wii U and Xbox One could muster just three and four respectively. To its credit, the Nintendo 3DS performed best in this area, though only 57 games were rated for the handheld overall, compared to a gigantic 445 on Sony's home console.
The average Metascore for all PS4 games reached 69.1, with four titles surpassing the coveted 90 milestone. Uncharted 4: A Thief's End was the highest rated title of the year, topping out at 93 with over 100 critics attributed. Another strong year for Sony's flagship format, then – and it looks like things will only get better as we move into 2017.

But but 'PlayStation has no games' apparently
@B-I-G-DEVIL I think that myth was debunked long ago. It definitely should have been — it has more games than the other platforms combined.
@get2sammyb You'd think haha but I still see it on Twitter, I just find it funny now.
Next year (if delays that will happen somehow don't) should be a good one in general though. A lot of games seems to be coming out.
No surprise Sony has been on a roll this year, and it seems like it's going to continue through 2017 and 2018.
Nintendo had a disappointing year hopefully the Switch will bring more success for the big N.
That picture always makes me laugh.
Hopefully Sony can keep the ball rolling with this momentum for the future.
All opinions
13 exclusives eh? I didn't even think that many exclusives could be released in a single year.
funny because it must only be first party because i have over 25 exclusives in-front of me on my shelf that are only ps4 console exclusive like games as disegia , dragonquest, until dawn JoJo adventure and there are tons more . also to the stupid people who will say but those are not exclusive because there on PC also lol First i said console exclusive and second then xbox has none as gears is not a exclusive or forza since they are also on PC so this article is very wrong and poorly put together with wrong information as ps4 has over 50 console exclusives and not including indie ga,es .
@JoeBlogs
Lol.... Xbots...Gotta share everything with Windows 10 now....What's the point of the Xbone?
I'd agree. I did like Forza Horizon 3 better than any other game this year, though. It's the argument I remember having with my PSone owning friends back when I only had the N64. I thought the N64 had more classics but I was definitely jealous of my friends who were getting, 3 or 4 good/great games a month while the N64 was having long droughts, sometimes up to nearly a year, between the good games. The Xbox One had two of my favorite games this year, but the vast majority of the time I was gaming on PS4. I'm just glad I'm a multi-console owner these days and it's not like back when I was in elementary and middle school and had to miss out.
Not surprising Sony is always favoured by the games media... /s
I do like metacritic, but the user score needs to go away. Just a bunch of fanboys giving out 0 & 10s.
Been a great year & 2017 is looking even better for me.
It was a good year for PS exclusives, no doubt. Valkyria Chronicles (despite being a remaster) was by far the best. And although World of Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest Builders were also available on Vita, those were the two next best. Uncharted 4 and Ratchet & Clank were good too, while King of Fighters XIV and Street Fighter V were decent, and The Last Guardian (even if the camera dang near ruins it).
Xbox had a good year too. Maybe not as many total but, Gears of War 4 and Forza Horizon 3 are the best games of their respective genres hands down. And Recore was excellent, it really was. Was Quantum Break this year also? Cant remember, but it was really good too. Plus the exclusives added through BC (Lost Odyssey in particular, and Blue Dragon and the original Forza Horizon) really helped 2016 to be a fantastic year for exclusives.
Wii U even got a few good ones- Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE and Paper Mario Color Splash were definitely solid games, and Zelda Twilight Princess HD (even though it's a remaster) and Pokémon Tournament were good too. Well, Zelda was more than good, that one's pristine. Star Fox Zero and Star Fox Guard were decent.
3DS rocked it though. Fire Emblem Fates Conquest and Fire Emblem Fates Birthright and Monster Hunter Generations and Dragon Quest VII and Mario Maker.... all mint. Mario & Luigi Paper Jam, Kirby Planet Robobot, Pokémon Sun/Moon, Azure Striker Gunvolt 2, Rhythm Heaven Megamix, Picross 3D Round 2... 3DS had a live year for sure.
PSVR got a few exclusives too, notably DriveClub VR and RIGS and Battlezone. I really enjoyed VR Worlds too, I don't care what anyone says the luge is insane. Cock back that recliner and see if your brain doesn't get taken for a jolt when you crash at 60mph into oncoming traffic!

"Gotta share everything with Windows 10 now....What's the point of the Xbone?"
For the exclusives and 3rd party games... Same exact point of having a PS4.
If I'm a gamer, and I'm looking for fun games to play, Xbox is a great choice. Basically all the same gamss PS4 gets, but with separate exclusives. Sure those games might be on Windows 10, but most console gamers aren't PC gamers... so those games being on W10 may as well be on the moon because unless you're a PC gamer it's not gonna matter.
Toss in backward compatibility with access to some of the best JRPG's of all time like Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon, and you end up with a console that by and large offers just as much (maybe even more?) than PS4.
Now, personally I think I favor the PS4 more than X1 (at least, for the moment) but it's still a great console all the same.
@JaxonH I think @blah01 meant you can play all first party Xbox One on Win10 PCs that were released after the Xbox Play Anywhere initiative. It's entirely the reason I sold my Xbox One and haven't looked back ever since.
Of course a lot of that market doesn't overlap, but at the same time I play on console and PC and know many people who do. There must be some overlap.
@B-I-G-DEVIL It was actually true... Until this year
As someone who doesnt even like racing games, Forza Horizon 3 has to be my favorite game of the year, with Star Fox Zero in close second.
Havent got around to playing UC4 but I'm not really interested in another TPS for now.
@blah01 it's still worth getting a Xbox One if don't game on PC
This is rubbish, I have a ps4 & xb1 and I can tell you that the ps4 had next to no game exclusives released this year and if anything Uncharted 4 was the only decent title. I purchased xb1 because it has way more exclusive games released that were actually released this year.
But people told me playstation 4 has no gamez, then ps4 has no AAA gamez (indiestation!), then ps4 has no exclusivez, where's that people now haha
@JaxonH
Was Gears of War 4 your first experience with the series? I agree with your assessment of the game. I've been with the franchise since day one and even a decade on it's unmatched in the genre. 4 has received some hate but it had everything I'd expect. Taking nostalgia out, I might even place it ahead of the original as the best in the series. It's definitely on par.
@Mav_76 I guess it depends what games you're into as PS4 has had lots of exclusives this year - U4, Ratchet, Until Dawn etc...
You can't really debate the article content as rubbish seeing as it's factual! Maybe you just didn't like the PS4 exclusives, so didn't buy them and think there are not many...?
It seems to me like it's the same story most years too with MS lacking. I had the original Xbox and 360 and at the beginning MS had a good team that tried hard with exclusives - Halo, Forza, Crimson Skies, Fable, PGR etc but around the second half of the 360's life there was very little (thanks to their focus on Kinect) and I found myself looking enviously at Sony's camp with loads of great titles coming out - Journey, U3 etc...
In my opinion that has largely stayed the same. I'm sure Sony has 2-4 exclusives to every one MS exclusive, or it at least feels that way to me. Also the variety is much better imo. The only exclusives I miss from MS are Forza and PGR, the latter of which is dead anyway.
@hieveryone PlayStation cater to a much wider audience (except PC) in my opinion anyway.
They've actually released the most games on console every year for PS4 , there might not have been many games you might have liked but to say they've had no games until this year is hilarious.
If you wanted to base it on critics reviews it's actually the worst year for PS4....
What games do you usually like to play ?
@JoeBlogs Exactly. I remember MS dropping the first Xbox for dust and won't be surprised if the same happens again!
I think this is where Sony deserves credit as they support legacy systems for longer, spread game releases out over the year (as opposed to MS's fall/autumn releases) and have more variety.
@B-I-G-DEVIL I did not said they have no games this year
My original comment " It was actually true... Until this year", this means I said PS4 finally has games this year, so don't misunderstood me
@hieveryone I didn't....
"to say they've had no games **until** this year is hilarious."
