Can you believe this? Grand Theft Auto V, the game which first released all the way back in 2013, is currently top of the UK sales charts in 2017. The popular open world affair managed to steal this week's crown from Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare – a truly amazing achievement. Familiar faces FIFA 17 and Battlefield 1 rounded out the top five.
With no new releases, the charts make for samey reading. Watch Dogs 2, Rocket League, Mafia III, and Steep all commanded places in the top ten, while The Last Guardian continued to cling on in 19th position. inFAMOUS: Second Son somehow managed to re-enter the charts in 36th place, while Titanfall 2 continued its slide out of the Top 40 in the bottom slot.

That's mental! Obviously used to seeing it in the top 10 somewhere but number 1 after all this time is insane!
No doubt RDR2 will have a similar sales effect...
@Bliquid Even when those two come out, I still imagine it will linger around the charts. I think the only time it stops selling is when the platforms it's on are obsolete.
Absolutely ridiculous - it has to be kids breaking the disc then buying another copy. Go away GTA, Go away GTA, Go away GTA.
You've got to love the lack of imagination in the majority of my fellow UK gamers just playing the same 3 or 4 games year after year and largely ignoring anything that doesn't involve driving around shooting people (sometimes without the driving), or playing the same football game that gets re released every year.
Wow that's crazy, I'm just hoping we'll get a great singleplayer experience with RDR 2, GTA V's single player felt very underwhelming compared to IV imo.
I don't understand who's left still buying this. Guess GTA online really helped give this game legs.
A very rare example of a game that sells well long after the initial release. Most game sales spike at launch then drop off a cliff. GTA has always done amazingly well in this regard.
Impressive that Rocket League is still holding its own, as well!
Quite a few shops have last week (asda, simplygames) had GTA on sale. One of my mates picked it up for £20 - you'd be surprised the amount of people yet to have it and were waiting for the price to come down to that level.
Incredible to think how long the game has been out.
Anyone have any idea of the total sales over all formats up to now?
gta 5 easily top 5 games of all times
Such a shame about Titanfall such a fun shooter, even sales can't help this gem.
lol! I am probably the only one in the world who doesnt own a copy of GTA5. Not on xbox360 nor PS4 or the PC. In fact i didnt play the game ever. And i have no interest in doing so either.. Like i said i am the only one who doest like GTA. lol
I still play GTA online regularly. With the new car import/export and biker business updates it's become so easy to make millions in just a few days even for the impatient kiddies who want everything immediately.
I finally upgraded to gta ps4 edition over Xmas (I had on ps3 previously). I guess the price drop has encouraged more people to buy it again on current gen
I bought it in last december only 😂
It's the UK, so no not surprised
It's sort of a lie really. It's not being bought for GTA5 at all. Every purchase Id say is for people wanting to play GTAO which can't be bought seperately. Pretty smart sales plan really.
Add to that the amount of people getting banned (which increased as it dropped off the top spot before xmas, coincidence?) which I would say have to get a new copy to try and play online again and it all adds up to free publicity as it stays at the top of the charts for years.
@playstation1995 I have it in my top 100 somewhere.
Did Gears of War 4 go on sale? Don't think I've seen it in the top 10 for a while. Forza seems to be doing pretty well.
It's inacurate anyway luckily, in the most downloaded game's digitaly on PS4 last year IW didn't even make the top 10 unless it's nothing but Xbox buying it. Why don't they include digital sale's?
