Its existence was leaked yesterday, and now it's been confirmed: Middle-earth: Shadow of War is real, and it's coming to PlayStation 4 on the 25th August. As evidenced by the sequel's cinematic trailer, the title sees the return of possessed ranger Talion as Middle-earth is gripped by conflict.
What's more, we're going to be getting a gameplay reveal on the 8th March, so you won't have to wait long to see the release in action. Are you looking forward to this one? Eviscerate your enemies in the comments section below.

I loved the first one, let's hope this will be even better.
Going by its name and the trailer, I think we can expect an expanded world with large battlefields, sprinkles of stealthy missions on top. Should be good!
@JoeBlogs It's still there.
Wow, so the abilities will come from the ring rather than the possession. This could lend itself to some cool mechanics, with Talion being his own man. Hype!
The trailer looks awsome cant wait.
Hopefully the game is bigger and has more variety of enemies and it should be awesome.
YES! First one was a great surprise and I enjoyed it very much...
Also I would like to say that more and more games should be announced like this! Announce with a release date that is just a few months away...this is the correct way
Dragon's Dogma showed that even a small open world can be fun. Hope in this we'll get some towns and NPCs; all the rest was already great in Shadow of Mordor.
I'd rather of had a gameplay trailer but I'm interested in it the first was surprisingly great for me I'm not a LOTR nerd
also out on my birthday so I know what I might be asking for 😃
Looks like they are taking some major leeway on the Middle Earth lore from my limited knowledge of it. However I loved the first and am excited to see more of this. Just hoping it doesn't ruin any timelines and the history established from its main source.
Never did get around to beating the first game. Really loved the whole revenge system. Can't wait to see what this game will improve on the predecessor.
I'm excited for this. The first game is one of my favorites on PS4, it was actually my first platinum. Hopefully we get to see more of Middle-earth this time around instead of just Mordor.
@jonny_aces these games are not really canon so I wouldn't worry too much about the timeline.
If the story is less half-horsed, the sidequests are less of a joke, and you can actually use your army for something I'm interested.
The mechanics were great, but the framing was so flimsy...
I had fun, but I paid 10usd. I can't recommend it for more in the face of so many better games.
I hope the sequel builds on that. They don't need to work on the combat or graphics. Just give me a story that isn't so boring and predictable I skip everything. Let me interact with NPCs.
I ended up accidentally beating the game waiting for it to get good, maxing out the skils i liked, and playing it like some Warriors game. Just building up meters and wrecking house while I listened to podcasts.
I'm more interested in Horizon Zero Dawn, and I'm not all that interested in that.
@get2sammyb
What is happening this year sammy. I must say one great year for gaming. By the way i am enjoying battleborn right now.
Great trailer, looks like we can fight a Balrog which is going to be wicked.
Liked the first game a lot, just a few too many flaws to make it great. It looks like a more focused story and a bit darker, so let's see. However, this looks like a perfect Summer game to me!
I hope Nemesis 2.0 is fully realized now that they're not hampered by last gen ports. I can't wait to play this in 4K! The last game scaled extremely well on consoles and PC.
@jonny_aces If anything I'd treat it like the Force Unleashed games, as in non-canon and more of a "what if" scenario.
I bought the first game when its discounted on psn sometime ago but I haven't play it yet, I really need to finish my backlog..
Shadow of Mordor was a gem of a game! I'll be popping the pre-order on for this one the moment it's on the store!
I' ll pass.
Wasn't very impressed by the first one, which was nothing more then Arkham City with a fresh coat of paint.
Not only that, but everything you did felt inconsequential, because the orcs kept respawning.
You had no impact on the world.
Was bored of the game within 3 hours.
No doubt it's sequel wil be more of the same.
50 hours of the same 5 minutes of repetitive "gameplay" introducing new and exciting respawning orcs to stabby death in a game world that pretends to be open world.
I really enjoyed working on the platinum on this game and may not get the new one at launch but will definitely get it some time to enjoy going back to Mordor.
Question for anyone who played the first one. I heard they added as DLC some kind of alternative or expanded ending, is it worth getting?
Mixed feelings. I liked the first one but not enough for a sequel. Maybe at a discount.
@JoeBlogs completely agree Not interestedif they take that mechanic out its what made it stand out.
Am I the only one who thinks they went a little soft on the title? "Shadow of War" seems pretty lazy.
Nice looking footage. Ah!, the age of video game trailers that don't show gameplay. I'm still interested.
