Puyo Puyo Tetris – better known as the greatest game of all time – will line up on the PlayStation 4 from 25th April in North America and 28th April in Europe. The game – which fuses bubble popping with tetromino bopping – will only be available physically on the PS4 due to licensing issues, which is a shame because this is one game that we want sitting on our hard drives for all eternity.
The video embedded above includes an introduction to the title's many weird and wonderful multiplayer modes, including some which swap between Puyo Puyo and Tetris boards and others which combine both. This is a really, really fun game, so don't you dare sleep on it. We'll have a review closer to release.

Wow, April is getting crowded. Puyo Puyo Tetris, Drawn To Death, Sonic Mania, Yooka-Laylee, Persona 5, Micro Machines World Series, Little Nightmares...
@Quintumply
@Quintumply It'll be a little less crowded if you just ignore Sonic Mania like you know, deep down, that you should.
@Quintumply Tell me about it! I actually might have to cancel my Persona 5 pre order because I managed to get a Switch, and also Nier and Mass Effect. I'd feel bad spending even more money on more games. I've been waiting forever for every game coming out in March, but Persona is the one I could see myself dropping.
@johncalmc Except Sonic Mania is going to be amazing.
Every month is looking packed this year so far. I really feel 2017 and 2018 could be the years where the PS4 library starts to eclipse the overall PS3 catalogue, which would be some feat.

" will only be available physically on the PS4 due to licensing issues"
Err...so how come it's download and retail on Switch? I don't...huh? Is Sony an enemy of one of the two halves of this game?
@NintendoFan4Lyf It's weird since Nintendo has exclusive download and special physical releases...and I don't know why. Bomberman R is exclusive too, who knows, maybe Nintendo splashed the cash.
@NintendoFan4Lyf @BLP_Software It's a licensing issue. It wasn't digital in Japan either back in 2014.
There must be some kind of loophole they're exploiting for the Switch - perhaps because it's a new console or something. No idea.
@NintendoFan4Lyf at least its a game from Konami.
@get2sammyb Ill look into that before the livestream tonight, that's very curious.
Too bad it's not releasing in March. This looks like a fun filler game to play in-between big releases, or when I just want something simple and fun. Unfortunately, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will also fill that role, and it's also releasing in April.
I'll probably pick it up anyway. I love puzzle games, and I especially love Tetris. I also want to improve my Puyo Puyo skills. A game like this will be PERFECT to play in handheld or tabletop mode.
Wouldn't bother with this on PS4, though. Tetris is a ton of fun, but not something I want to plant myself down in front of a TV to play.
I watched the Giantbomb guys playing the Japanese version of this about a year ago and it looked amazing fun, I am so pleased it's getting a European release.
Deffo picking it up early, I can see this getting a fairly limited run and being hard to pick up later on.

Ubisoft holds the Tetris IP license in the West and made it impossible for this game to launch previously. Now Sega made a deal with Ubisoft so they can release this game here, but maybe they wanted to protect their own Tetris game in some sort of an awkward way; the moment PuyoPuyoTetris is downloadable on the PS4, there is absolutely no reason for anyone to buy the Ubisoft published Tetris game.
By raising silly 'hurdles' like these there isn't coming as much money in the pockets of Sega because they have release it physically. They'll make the game more expensive to recoup some of the cost so that it won't be a direct competitor of the Ubi Tetris. Since that game hasn't launched on the Switch yet I can understand that Ubi negotiated a different deal out of it for that console.
@johncalmc What are you talking about? Sonic Mania looks like the best Sonic game in years!
@Mahe It could be a blank disc with "We're sorry" printed on it and it would be the best Sonic game in years.
