Resident Evil 7 has managed to cling on to the top of the UK sales charts this week, putting it in pole position to secure three consecutive weeks at the summit. It'll need to fight off Nioh if it hopes to achieve that, but the run would put the all-new survival horror on par with Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 5, both of which survived three weeks at the top.
Unsurprisingly, there wasn't much change elsewhere in the best sellers list this time. Grand Theft Auto V hijacked second position yet again, while FIFA 17 climbed up a place into third. Retail release Hitman: The Complete First Season debuted in fourth, a decent result for a package that's been available on the PlayStation Store for nearing a year now.
And then the remainder of the top ten was made up by familiar faces: Rocket League, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Battlefield 1, Final Fantasy XV -- you know the drill by now. Where do you think Nioh's going to chart when it releases next week? Can it break the number one barrier or is it far too niche? Select your stance in the comments section below.

I wanna see the first wweek of March. I honestly dont see why Sony had to compare Horizon to Zelda. They can both co-exist as they are both different things.
Even the fans are like cool, great time to be a gamer. I think Sony made those remarks believing it wouldnt launch at the same time, but as I said, it seems Sony is trying to stoke a fire that no one cares about or doesnt exist, because Zelda is Zelda and Horizon will be Horizon and everyone will enjoy both as they do different things for different markets in different ways.
With regards to Nioh, that seems a tad niche and this is the UK here. GTAV is still selling new physical copies enough to be up there. Either its selling loads, Rockstar is paying people off, or everything sells like ass.
Nioh is getting great reviews and extremely good word of mouth, I wouldn't be shocked if it takes the top spot next week, but I also wouldn't be surprised to see RE 7 remain at No. 1 or if GTA takes back the top spot.
“I just played Zelda! The new Zelda game. You know, open world, and hunting. And I had a bizarre feel, this feels like Horizon. This is a epic, huge game. I can not wait to play Zelda again when it comes out.” -Shuhei Yoshida

Seems like a harmless comparison to me, certainly not stoking any fires unless you're a crazy fanboy. There was going to be back and forth between the fanbases anyway so what does it matter? Zelda will win so you can be happy with that.
@Gamer83 Really? I dont care which wins, theyll both be great games though both have huge hurdles, one is a new IP and the other is changing what has been long established.
Both can coexist. I recall someone at Sony saying it was a Zelda killer, though that may have been games media kicking a dead horse as usual.
As I said, both will hopefully be great and both can happily exist. In fact I can predict the headlines. "Zelda takes top spot but to be fair is on two consoles." Or "Horizon takes top spot, we cant say we are surprised". Ya can have those for free.
I honestly think Horizon will do better though. At most 17 million potential consoles (Being generous) against every PS4.
@BLP_Software
Nobody outside of PushSquare thinks Horizon is going to win any sales or review battle, and outside of the hardcore PS4 gamers, nobody really gives a damn about it. You're looking into too much here and basing too much on what you see on this website. Zelda is the most revered video game franchise and Breath of the Wild is releasing on two platforms, one being a highly anticipated new system. It's going to win the sales battle, it's going to win the reviews battle. You can relax, Nintendo is not going anywhere and the wider gaming audience doesn't want to see Nintendo die like you constantly talk about on here.
Yeah, Horizon's not outselling Zelda. That's crazy talk. And I don't think there's anything wrong with that Yoshida quote either!
@get2sammyb @Gamer83 Im not saying Im reading into it, its a logical conclusion based on numbers. What would sell more? A new IP heavily pushed on a near 60 million unit system, or an established game on 13 million dead systems and a system that at most will have 3 million units at the time.
I actually want Horizon to do better. I want that to happen so Sony can push out more new IP and do new things with more frequency (Which they could do more of, especially big blockbuster stuff). If new stuff does well the industry feels better.
Sammy knows my view on the same old releases, and while I do think Zelda will be awesome, it hasnt got the fighting chance that Horizon has, as its got to sell a new system on the same day but at the same time its on a system already out that no one gave a toss about anyway.
I aint writing Zelda off, but I hope Horizon does better for the industry, at least in short term.
@BLP_Software It'll still be Zelda. It's one of the biggest franchises in games, of course it will be Zelda.
Hopefully Horizon meets expectations though, both commercially and critically.
@get2sammyb I suppose. When was the last new 3D one anyway? 2010? Good 7 year gap.
Im actually curious about GTAV though. I cant find new copies in my local stores, so where the hell are these still selling?
I can see Resi staying at the top till For Honor releases, but it'll be interesting to see how Nioh does the game seems to be picking up some belting scores.
@BLP_Software
It may not be the best source but according to VGChartz, the only PS4 first party exclusives over four million are Uncharted 4 (8 mil), Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection (4.8) and The Last of Us Remastered (5.2). All games developed by Naughty Dog. After that, not a single one even reaches 3 mil, inFamous: Second Son being the closest at 2.8. So again, you and any other Nintendo fans who think there's some crazy conspiracy against Nintendo and is living in fear of Horizon actually doing well, can relax. It has zero chance in hell against Zelda.
@Gamer83 Hang on. Im not living in fear of Horizon doing well. I want it to do well. I actively want that game to do well if not better as even if Zelda doesnt sell its already established. I want something new and long lasting to come from Horizon.
@BLP_Software
Well, if you say so... Anyway, it doesn't matter. Until a non-Naughty Dog game manages to crack even 3 mil, I'm not going to believe it can happen. Even on PS2, a lot of first party games didn't sell as well as they should've, PlayStation gamers don't really seem to support exclusives in huge numbers (to be fair, neither do Xbox gamers these days). For what Sony is putting into Horizon, I'm not sure even 3 or 4 million will be acceptable. I hope I'm wrong, the game manages to hit 8 mil+ and we get something more out of it. But, based on evidence I've seen, it's a longshot.
@get2sammyb @BLP_Software @Gamer83 to be fair according to the same website Skyward Sword sold 3.95 million and on a console which had outsold the PS4. I think Horizon would have a chance at least at launch as didn't Nintendo say there are 2 million Switch's at launch (maybe more now, though how many actually in the UK), granted they'll all buy it and the few who still play Wii U may but that's 57 million potential customers vs about 13 million. Long term Zelda will probably sell more but I don't think it's a stretch to think that at launch Horizon could match it in the UK at least
For the record I'm buying both with the Switch mainly been bought so I can play when the wife wants to watch TV.
Oh and we'll don't to Resident Evil 7, well deserved and a great return to form
@Gamer83 @BLP_Software Considering the witcher 3 sold 4 million on ps4 alone, if horizon is good maybe it will sell more than 4 million, playstation fan usually like single player game like uncharted and the witcher 3 afterall.
Zelda usually sell about 4 to 7 million, the last console zelda that's not remaster sell 4 million (skysword on nintendo wii), so maybe horizon can sell more than zelda.
