Mass Effect: Andromeda has topped the UK sales charts, but it's only managed to outsell the first title in the series. The game enjoyed the third best debut in the four game Mass Effect series, with both Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 netting better week ones. It's perhaps worth noting that the industry has changed greatly since those games released, with unrecorded digital sales taking a much bigger portion of the pie these days – but Mass Effect 2 obviously didn't even release on the PlayStation 3 initially.
Elsewhere there's not an enormous amount to say: Ghost Recon: Wildlands fell into second place but is still the biggest launch of the year, while Horizon: Zero Dawn stuck around in fourth position just one place behind LEGO Worlds. Meanwhile, evergreen titles like Grand Theft Auto V, FIFA 17, and Rocket League rounded out the top ten. We've included the full list of movers and shakers for you below.

Gotta love those ME:A shots.
@finalstan Couldn't resist!
I think we all knew ME:A would be number 1 this week, I'm more curious about how it does in weeks 3, 4 and 5. Late arrivals will still be picking it up in week 2.
Lego Worlds seems kind of high at #3, not much to it. Though I suppose many people have thought the same about Mine craft over the years. Lego City U next week should do well as a multiplat, though I'm still surprised it's MSRP $60 for a 4 year old Lego game. I suppose it will be $30 by Christmas. It was really good, I recommend it.
@rjejr LEGO Worlds is going to keep doing really well IMO. I doubt it'll leave the top ten until much later in the year — if it ever does TBH.
(The game's only £18.99 here in the UK.)
I keep remembering that I still have yet to play Horizon. I sure do love this gaming year.
With so many quality released titles released just lately and the less than glowing reviews you don't have to be a rocket scientist to know it wasn't going to do well.
That picture.....
@get2sammyb All Lego Worlds is is NMS w/ Legos. Price does help I suppose. The $60 price I was referring to was Lego City Undercover next week. It's only $20 on Wii U.
@rjejr Gotcha!
To be honest it's a very weak launch for ME:A.
Glad to see two of my favorite games, Horizon and Zelda are still performing very well, in the case of Zelda that also means Switch is still selling. PS4+Switch really is the future!
@get2sammyb
Nitpicking here but the one that initially didnt release on PS3 was ME1.
Nice to still see the amazing Zelda in there.
I couldn't believe it when I heard the character saying "My face is tired." I was like, am I watching Mass Effect the Abridged Series by Little Kuriboh?
MEA is a lot of fun and I finally understand what I'm doing 😀. It does glitch at times and requires a reload, but overall I like some of the changes.
I think ME:A is the only game that can top the sales chart and you guys still focus on a negative.
No suprise ME is top for me there's a lack of variety atm with game's anything half decent and new will make the top, i'm also pretty sure game sale's are the lowest it's been for year's which explain's it as well, might be wrong.
@Splat Never been around when Nintendo tops the chart have you?
I am level 26 in Mass Effect (SP) and spent 40hrs so far on the game. I am still only 40% into the game too and quite enjoying it - despite the glitches, bugs and odd crash. Its certainly not as 'bad' as some make out...
Good to see Horizon still inside the top 5 and still ahead of Zelda...
Zelda already being spanked by GTA V before the end of March
@Splat For those like myself that are huge ME fans and feel like Andromeda is subpar compared to the first 3 games, yeah, it's easy to focus on the negative. It's hard not to when there are SO MANY simple, yet easily avoidable problems that don't make the game garbage, but really make you wonder what the hell they were doing for those 5 years in development? I'm playing it, and enjoying it for the most part, but it's not monopolizing my time like the first 3 did. It's just another game in my rotation that I could put down for a week and care less.
@RedMageLanakyn Maybe all the staff changes affected the game, its development and direction and why after 5yrs, it doesn't feel like a game that's as 'polished' as it should for that amount of time. How many of the original staff moved to the Montreal office to work on the game? They also had to get used to new engine as well.
It can't have been easy trying to come up with something that was Mass Effect, without the original cast and crew, a new setting and theme, yet still keeping things familiar. Not knowing how the ME fans will react after the way they reacted to ME3's ending.Having to make a game this big with a new team, lots of staff changes, pressure from EA to meet deadlines and budgets etc...
@BAMozzy I'm sure the staff changes and new engine played a huge part in the quality of the finished game, but the writing is all on them. They had 3 games worth of lore and backstory to work from, and without giving away spoilers for others, the blandness of the Kett and the other new alien species is overwhelming. I would've rather seen them take a risk on the story than retread old ground. The more I play, the more I feel like it's Inquisition in space....which for me isn't a good thing.
@RedMageLanakyn Staff changes can also affect the writing. Different staff can have different ideas, different direction etc.
I admit the Kett are somewhat bland and I had predicted certain aspects before they were revealed which didn't help. I was and am a bit disappointed by the lack of variety when it comes from Andromedas natives - there are only 2 new species.
As for the Lore, a lot of that is retained with several easter eggs to the past too. Character references, family ties etc. In many ways though, they also needed to sever some of that to create something new. They would have been criticised if they hadn't - damned if they do, damned if they don't.
This was never meant to be ME4 but a 'new' game in the ME Universe (well another one but still a ME game/lore etc) - a different vibe too. Ryder isn't Shepherd! You are not a military leader but an explorer...
To me, it feels like Mass Effect, feels like Mass Effect and in many ways has played it safe - perhaps too safe but still played safe...
@sinalefa Actually, neither ME1 or ME2 released on ps3 at first. It took almost a whole year for ME2 to come to ps3.
@BAMozzy Very safe indeed. Here's hoping the next game has a stable development cycle and a team that can deliver a proper ME experience while taking things to the next level!
Sticking to my prediction that Mass Effect: Andromeda is the top seller its first two weeks. After that will be interesting to see how it fares given the extremely mixed reception.
Great to see Horizon holding strong. It's been in the top 5 longer than I expected. Would love to know at some point how it's selling in North America.
