Whoa, this came out of nowhere. We were casually browsing YouTube when we stumbled across a brand new video from Bandai Namco - namely a Western announcement trailer for Gundam Versus, which is due out on PlayStation 4 in Japan soon.
The latest game in the hit Japanese series, Gundam Versus sees teams of two mobile suits go head-to-head in arena-like maps. Combat is a mix of shooting and melee attacks, with powerful special moves also coming into play. If you want to know more about the franchise, be sure to give our Matters of Import: Gundam Extreme VS Full Boost article a read.
Back in 2015, Bandai Namco told us in an interview that it wasn't against localising its Gundam games, so it's nice to see that stance actually lead somewhere. But of course, we can't forget that the publisher did bring Vita title Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme VS-Force overseas last year - even it was a bit crap. Hopefully this current-gen game fares much better.
Gundam Versus will be blasting onto our shores this autumn - or fall, for you Americans. Are you up for some mecha action? Make the beam rifle sound in the comments section below.

I want to like it, but it looks slow and boring compared to DB Xenoverse and empty compared to the Gundam musou games. I wanted it to be like Godzilla DAMM or StE but it doesn't look as fun as those either as Gundam don't really grapple well.
If they were going to make a fighting arena Gundam game they should have just made a story driven Mobile Fighter G Gundam game b/c that's what the entire 49 episode anime is about.
i'm down for some Gundam Action as longs as it isn't online only of course
GUNDAM!WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Oh wow, never would have thought this would be coming West.
2017 continues to be insane.
It was about time that Bandai Namco has done something great for the fans. Hoping that this turns out better than Force, and I'm definitely glad that it is coming to the west, since I'm pretty much tired of this importing stuff.
And speaking of Bandai Namco, whatever happened to Accel WorldxSAO? The last news they gave us was back in February where they announced that the game will be released in summer but after that, not much. Looking at the famitsu score, the sales and the lack of wikipedia page, I can probably see why.
@rjejr It may not look as great as Xenoverse, but you gotta admit: it looks way better and way more fun than Godzilla 2015 (or 204 considering it was released in Japan on that year).
@SoulsBourne128 "Godzilla 2015"
Bought that on PS3 for my kid on sale for $10. We may have gotten our moneys' worth out of it, but just barely. All it does is make me want a "real" Godzilla game again. I didn't like Godzilla Unleashed on Wii due to the odd motion control requirement, but I'd settle for an HD version of it at this point.
@rjejr Eh I disagree personally. Despite the name of the entry, Gundam vs Gundam is actually a long running series with fairly regular new entries and arguably the most popular Gundam game series out there. It's pretty damn fun to play as someone who played one of the older PSP entries some years back as well as some of the newer arcade entries while in Japan.
It works especially well as a handheld title as well (there's a Vita entry with English subs in Asia but I've yet to buy it yet) though a fight stick controller is the best control scheme for it in general, which is what's used in the Japanese arcade versions of the series.
It also does a good job of making the mobile suit feels fitting and fulfills the the fantasy of having various mobile suits in the franchise actually fight each other while balancing out more powered units by using the cost systems (more powerful units costs more points and you lose when your points reaches 0, so there's a risk vs gains strategy equation there as well).
There's also good power fantasy fulfillment sometimes too. For example my favorite unit to use is Exia and one of the things I like is it's Trans Am move which allows you to zoom around really fast while slashing things (for a short while). When I used it, I truly felt like using Trans Am Exia from the Gundam 00 anime. Most things are not completely anime accurate of course for balancing reasons, but the game has a lot of character to it.
@rjejr Personally, I just want either a PS2-to-PS4 port of StE, a remaster of DAM, or a Godzilla game made by ACTUAL proffesionals and knows hot to make games that are dumb fun (Omega Force) and DON'T tune down the experience just to make it "realistic". Seriously, Bamco had like, the Tekken team on their side. Couldn't they like, make a Godzilla game with a gameplay similar to Tekken? Sure it sounds dumb but screw it. It would probably be better than having tank controls.
@SoulsBourne128 Hopefully somebody will take advantage of co-marketing w/ the upcoming Kong vs Godzilla movie and make a really good game. Or at least a good game. Or at least a game that doesn't suck. It doesn't have to follow the movie, just co-exist along side it for exposure. I think that's what the Spiderman game is trying to do.
In case you aren't up to date on the films:

@Ralizah I think it's thanks to gundam being on Toonami that made them consider.
Sweet cant wait to play as gundam 00 and gundam X
Nice, I was tempted by the Vita version. But the article has put me off. Good job.
@themcnoisy yeah heard the vita version was bad played the one be for that that was on ps3 and it was great . So great in fact , that a friend of mine stole the disk from me and he dosent even like gundam ( also no longer friends).
Best two gundam games was battle record and gundam breaker 3 neither which made it over seas... u can import or get gundam breaker 3 with english subs if u buy the Singapore version.
Also currently playing gundam g generation genisis on ps4 has english subs and its pretty fun but its focus on universal century only but has the new barabtos gundam.
Digital only?
I wonder if it's as fun as Armored Core. Still waiting on an AC game for this gen.
@BladeRider thank you, I've wanted Gundam breaker for a while.
Can't get too excited even I'm a big Gundam fan.
I feel like all Gundam games have very similar gameplay.
The same dash-shot-dash-slash...
only graphics update each iteration...
@LieutenantFatman Not gonna happen. F
rom Software is focused on Soul series now since that IP gain popularity.
Even Armored Core leaders had left the studio...
@whywai88 dang that sucks welp time to start that armored core collection I've been backpedaling on
@whywai88 its confirmed that from software is working on a new armored core, also another mech game and a new ip. So might see a hype trailer an e3 but def no gameplay.
Also they are done with souls for a little while, unless somthing has changed.
This better not suck.
..or be online multiplayer only
