It just isn't pulling me in like 3 & 4 did. It had a great opening & then this slog of a "tutorial" happened for the next few hours. I REALLY hope it picks up soon!!
@Dreamcaster-X This concerns me.
@Dreamcaster-X I heard the game doesn't start to pick up speed until around 10 hours in.
Awesome game , more anime-ish than previous titles, love anime so no issue . First hour and s half bit slow with tutorials. Also it only really opens up after the first month in game time as only evenings available skips morning /afternoons mostly . also no more tarot cards, which is weird . unlock new personas for main Character by talking to them, once you knock them down and they go in your 'mask' plus the voice a for Igor has changed . apart from that awesome game. Only played ten hours as trying to finish ff15
@Deadlyblack Oh I do hope so, I love everything else about it.
Absolutely love it so far, enough to pull me away from Breath of the Wild, which says a lot. A real different approach to Persona 4. Really loving the darker tone, much more geared towards today's political and social climate and so much better for it. Visually it's stunning, the combat and dungeons are much improved over any previous Persona game, the soundtrack is perfect and it's just so damn stylish. The only things that bring it down for me are the poor pronunciation of Japanese names by the English cast and the fact that I just don't have enough hours in the day to play it as much as I want.
The tutorial is actually longer than in previous games. On the upside, it actually integrates action and gameplay into the mix, instead of talking your ear off for four hours like in Persona 4. I rather like the way it eases the player into the complex world of Persona 5, as there is more stuff than ever to do here.
The game is amazing. Probably my favorite game on the PS4. I don't really expect that to change, either.
@SegaBlueSky For some reason, Atlus dubs tend to struggle with the Japanese names, stressing them in the wrong place. SMT IV: Apocalypse was the worst in this regard: I got so tired of people pronouncing Asahi's name as "Uh-SAW-hee."
Given how great the dub is so far, I really dont get the casting choice for igor. It is completely wrong imo. Otherwise, game amazing so far. Only 5 hours in as I was working away. But have a few days to get stuck in now 😊
I've had the game for 3 days & have played it for over 25hours so you tell me haha.
Played all of the games within the last 6 months & to me it's already my second favourite after P3P. I like the darker take on the story & how imaginative the dungeons are compared to previous titles.
Even at 25 hours in I still feel restricted. Hope it opens up some more.
Whether or not it'll surpass P3P depends on character development & where the story goes. The gameplay is there but Jukari, Junpei, Mitsuru & Co are going to be very hard to beat.
It's much, much faster than Persona 4's opening five hours. The game is phenomenal. Can't recommend it enough.
What I've played of it (about two hours) I love it! From the main menu,to the battles, visual style and the real fast paced intro. The only thing I'm not keen on is Igors voice like others have pointed out it really seems out of place.Shame but hopefully I'll get used to it.
Who voted no it's crap, you can't possibly have played it
I can only echo @Ralizah the tutorial is quite long but there is a lot of world building that is done and many complex systems to introduce. It never feels like the game is holding you back and the story is great. I'm getting to the point where the game starts to let you loose and it's only now that I actually feel ready for it, so I think it's perfectly judged. Also I think this could easily be my favourite game on the PS4 and though we'll have to wait and see on that one, I enjoy it more every time I play it
Gonna pick up my copy today, but I won't play until I beat BotW.
Looking at the reviews, yes it's worth the hype. My copy still sealed, waiting for me to finish nier automata first
Atlus rather dubious tactics, about sharing gameplay footage and them deciding what I can't and can do with a game I bought.
And even going so far as turning features on my console off, are rather off putting to be to be honest.
I expect cease and desist letters from Nintendo, who have been out of touch, with anything even remotely resembling reality for a while now.
Kinda expected better from Sega and Atlus.
So this will be a used buy only.
I picked it up because I always wanted to try a persona... And it blew my expectations out of the water. Can't stop playing and humming the music lol
@Rob_230 At first I didn't like his new voice, but now I completely understand why it's different. Think of what Igor is and his role in Persona 3 and 4 compared to 5. It's pretty different. Igor is, after all, the manifestation of the Guest's heart. It's a place only they can go to see the Guest's cognition of the Velvet Room would certainly change to fit into that perspective.
In the older games Igor is more of a benevolent caretaker of the Velvet Room. He's a lot like a butler or a guardian offering services to the Guest that they accept voluntarily.
In Persona 5 he's "The Prison Master". He is more authoritative and commanding like a warden in a prison. the Inmate/Prisoner must undergo "rehabilitation" in order to "prevent ruin". Unlike the other games you aren't a Guest in the Velvet Room. You're a Prisoner in the Velvet Prison.
You can check out any time you like.
But you can never leave.
I dont know what persona 5 is, but i think you guys should write more articles on it. lol
Looking at the votes looks like im not the only one whos never played this crap. Jk
@wiiware how are you liking nier, i had to make a choice nier, nioh, or ghost recon. Went with ghost recon which is really good actually
@Constable_What fair play, thats a fantastic response. It makes an awful lot of sense too. I have to admit to having not played P3 - yet; but I thought in p4 the voice fit very well. In p5 I dunno - im sure he will grow on me. I think you are exactly right with your explanation though. Hopefully at the end if redemption is achieved he will transform
Someone actually voted "No, it's crap"? To each his own, but after 20+ hours it's shaping up to be one of the best games I've ever played. I had high hopes for it, but those hopes have been blown out of the water... SO good
@bbauer36 'Looking at the votes looks like im not the only one whos never played this crap.'
If you've never played Persona that's fine but the very site your commenting on gave it a 10 and within the comments 8 regular readers are gushing in their praise. That's a huge recommendation from the regular contributors who all have good taste. Maybe you should give it a go?
@Dreamcaster-X Yea, a little patience and perseverance will make it worthwhile in the end.
I tell ya, since hooking up my PS4 on Christmas Day 2016...I've had nothing but great gaming experiences. All four Uncharted games, The Last of Us, Ratchet & Clank, Horizon Zero Dawn...and now Persona 5. Definitely has me hooked. I was super excited to finally beat the first boss today.
@themcnoisy make it 9 haha. I have never played a persona and I am loving this one so far!
Out of all the recent PS4 games releasing, this is the one that is getting me into impulse-buy mode.
Just came in the mail, looking forward to trying it tonight,
I only have two complaints. I'm not feeling the new dungeon gameplay. I prefer the p3 and p4 simplicity of grinding my way to the end of randomly generated dungeons without puzzles, taking cover, climbing, etc. Also, the scene after every battle finish should be a quick screen prompt telling me my exp, items, and money that takes one sec to skip with a button press. the current battle finish scene/screen they used is too long. Otherwise I'm very pleased I preordered this game, I just hope we don't have to wait nearly a decade for another one this time.
Fifty hours in so far, and loving every minute. GOTY for me!
Haven't gotten it yet, maybe some time. I'm going to assume it is similar to Persona 3 & 4 with the dungeon crawling combined with the slice of life stuff, I'm currently really not in the mood for something like that.
I'll add my only complaint, which I think I mentioned elsewhere before. The long stretches with no save points. I understand in palaces because that's the point of making it difficult and needing to find safe rooms...but I had a long stretch that included answering something in class, followed by a lengthy after school dialogue section, and then forced straight into something else that was quite time consuming with no chance to stop. When I finally got through all of it, my save was over an hour later. I needed to stop way before that but couldn't and didn't know it was going to get me into all of that. Unless I'm missing something that allows me to save and quit somewhere during that point.
@bbauer36 Nier automata is really good if you like platinum games gameplay and yoko taro story, platinum always has good gameplay in their game but the story in their game is so so, yoko taro games always has interesting story but bad gameplay, the mix of yoko taro story and platinum games gameplay is amazing, if you like action game I think you should buy this game, the open world is little empty though compared to others open world game, which I like since it makes the character that are there more interesting.
Nioh gameplay is really good, but I'm not in the mood to die again and again and again, so I'm not buying it until I have more times to play games (and the game's discounted).
Ghost recon look interesting if you playing with friends, but all my friends that has ps4 just play diablo 3 or persona and doesn't like first person shooter, they like the old (2001 - 2006) ghost recon though since it's not too action packed.
I'm loving the game. My only real complaint is with how often it feels like the plot hijacks the game, locking you out of the option to do any of the side-activities. I remember that happened a lot in P4 as well, but it seems like it's happening more often in P5. Maybe it's just me.
@Ralizah by the way, nothing to fo with persona 5, bit i just finished danganronpa 1 in ps4 and i loved it, cool avatar u have, junko was awesome 😂
@Xaritah Danganronpa 2 is even better! One of the best video game sequels I've ever played.
And yeah, Junko Enoshima is a perfect blend of various unique character traits. There's nothing quite like her in other media.
Sooo many good games to play, I am still playing through Horizon, I really should beat that game before buying this one, but it looks so good!
@Constable_What I think is voice is badass, and it give me chills! But this is my first Persona game though...
@Cowboysfan-22 Agreed. This is my first Persona game, but I think its going to actually beat Uncharted 2 and Mass Effect 2 as my favorite game of all time. I haven't been this addicted to a game since high school.
I'm nearly up to the 2nd boss I like it but it's kinda boring I don't think i'm enjoying it as much as you guy's. I can't play it for longer than an hour or 2 max without needing to put it down and play something else, it get's boring after a while to much talking and the character's are pretty annoying. Gameplay's really good though, it give's you the impression it's easy but thing's can go tit's up really quick. About 20 hour's in now though i'm hoping it will pick up.
@ArkhamKnerd You could always just put your PS4 in rest mode? Unless you're on PS3.
@Ralizah I'm gonna start danganronpa 2 this weekend 😆 i wanna play it slowly cause i seriously don't want it to end 😢 i got other games to play but i loved danganronpa 1 so muucchhh 😂 i even watched the anime 😆
@Rob_230 I'm about 30 hours in and the voice did grow on me. I'd love to see the original voice after rehabilitation too though!
@NinjaWaddleDee If this was my first Persona game I would also hold your perspective without a doubt. He has a great voice (even a veteran like me will admit, I played every Persona game and beat 3, 4, and Q, ). It was a tad jarring for me at first because he had the same voice in 3 and 4. But! Everything about his new voice fits so well and he has a lot more to say compared to the other games: he feels more like a character. He has an incredibly badass voice and Igor himself is very well acted.
@ArkhamKnerd I don't really know exactly where you, although I do have a vague idea, but as long as you aren't in "dungeon mode" you can press start or options at anytime to save as long as you can control Joker. So if you're in class and then you have to talk to people around Shibuya or any other place that isn't a hostile area you can just save while you're doing that. I don't know if that helps, but I though it was useful info!
I've played around 5 hours so far and my lord is it super slick and stylish. It just oozes class, from its music to the menus. I just know that I'm gonna thoroughly enjoy the next 100+ hours.
Persona 5 is absolutely amazing.
I'm surprised that people think it's slow in the beginning compared to other games in the series since I personally think it gets going a lot quicker. Yeah, there's tutorials, but it mixes them in with gameplay unlike in Persona 4 which was largely just cut-scenes for the first three or four hours.
The music is outrageously good. It's super-stylish. The changes to the battle system really work. I love the TV show style story that jumps from case to case. The characters are great. Basically, I think it just improves on P4 in basically every way. And since this has been my most anticipated game for years, I couldn't be happier with it.
18 hours until now and loving it...
Playing in turns with Persona 4 Golden (I got it from PSN monthly freebies years ago)..
Never played any Persona/Shin Megami Tensei game before...
