Are you watching, Capcom? Tekken 7 already has a blossoming tournament scene, but that's not stopped Bandai Namco from building an actual game around the brawler to please its single player fans. This trailer outlines everything you can expect from the sequel, and the range of modes is both staggering and refreshing.
You'll find a full story mode detailing the Mishima saga, as well as sub-chapters that delve a little deeper into the plots of supporting characters. There's also an arcade mode, a new option called Treasure Battle (which looks similar to Ghost Battle from previous titles), online tournament support, and tons of character customisation.
Moreover, you'll be able to watch every Tekken game opening and ending, and the PlayStation 4 version includes the popular jukebox mode which lets you remix the soundtrack of any stage. And that's not including the PlayStation VR support, which is still yet to be fully detailed.
Both this and Injustice 2 make the otherwise excellent Street Fighter V look like a joke, frankly.

Assuming Tekken 7 turns out to be great, I was always going to use 'Return of the king' as the review tagline, but we've now used it so many times for articles that I don't think I can get away with it.
Hmmm I'm not into fighting games much these days... but I DO like Tekken.
To be honest I think it's ridiculous that games like Dead or Alive and Street Fighter can release so many costumes as paid DLC, all while Tekken opts for an insane level of character customisation straight out of the box. Crazy!
I find it depressing that we can, in this day and age, be in a position where we can say "OH MY GOD SINGLE PLAYER!".
Thanks EA. You made it a trend.
But colour me intrigued. That's a lot.
@BLP_Software Doesnt it make sense that as the internet has become more prolific, the number of multiplayer only experiences have increased with it? I understand some people don't like online only games but it's funny when people consider a game without a single player component to be doing it wrong.
I do agree though, from my perspective SF5 would have been better with a strong single player element. But I doubt those who only play it online are bothered. It is what it is! I just think a game shouldn't be dammed for disregarding single player entirely.
@kyleforrester87 A game can lack single player but companies need to realise the world isnt online only.
I just find it sad that something as simple and no duh as single player content, a feature of the industry for decades...is now a marketing point.
Trailers always seem more epic with a japanese guy babbling in the background.
I would have gotten this anyway, but if I had still been on the fence then this trailer probably would have sold me.
Give us Bowling or we riot
@BLP_Software It's different for sure, but I wouldn't say it's a good thing or a bad thing. For sure it's a good thing that Tekken has a solid single player mode if that's your jam, and it's only right they should let consumers know about it in videos like this when products like SF5 exist on shelves along side it. I get why people were bummed by SF5 though.. they should have just called it SF:Online lol
@kyleforrester87 SFV mechanically is great. Its just....you know, a lot of people wont be able to enjoy that. :/
I like Tekken very much, been hooked since my first experience with the series which was Tekken 3 on PS1. Looking at Tekken 7, am I the only one who thinks the art style is a little weird?...
Tekken Force needs to be in it
Looks like another essential game and will no doubt topple Street Fighter V to be the best fighter on PS4.
We get it, Street Fighter V sucked.
That said, the story mode may be the most interesting part of the game. I'm very intrigued by the part where you play as Heihachi during the T5 opening (Which is still my favorite opening in a fighting game).
Hopefully an english version of this comes out so I can get a better understanding of the features.
@JoeBlogs Funnily enough, we'd have no choice but to use 'Tekken the p*ss' if turned out to be crap.
It is like any other fighting game has more content than SFV. Like the oft neglected KOFXIV. And SNK does not even publish their own games.
Tekken has always offered extras so it is great they keep the tradition going.
Nice jab at Street Fighter 5. Capcom screwed up hard
Really excited for this now, just over a month to go. Any news on Lei Wulong yet? Surely he's going to be in it..
Looks very, very good.
As a Tekken disciple from back when PS1 was deservedly just Playstation, this appeals not just as a content comparison for SF5 (recognising its superlative heritage as a £70 cartridge back in 1990..!) but as a superlative fighting arena.
I'm looking forward to an online complement this time, as well as the depth of Tekken 3 and Tekken Tag, in gameplay terms.
Release it already 😏
You mean Sf V wasnt a joke to begin with ?
