Hey, remember Dead Island 2? No, not Dying Light - we mean the actual sequel to Dead Island that was announced ages ago and then just kind of... Shuffled off a cliff. The title was originally set to launch back in 2015, and it's been over a year since we last heard about the game, but publisher Deep Silver has told Eurogamer that yes, it's still in the works at British studio Sumo Digital.
"Dead Island 2 is in development at Sumo Digital, and we are excited by the progress the team are making with Deep Silver's most successful IP. When we are ready to share more information, we will," reads a statement from the company. Clearly the title's development hasn't gone as smoothly as intended, but this at least confirms that it's still alive.

I've played Dead Island 2.
@get2sammyb Really? How? Or is this like in school where Kevin Wilson said he had Street Fighter 3 because his dad's mate worked for capcom and Goro was in it.
Kevin was a liar. He didn't have Street Fighter 3. He only had a spectrum.
@THRILLHOU Ha ha briiliant - sounds just like Adam at my school who said he had a fully working hoverboard from Back to the Future 2 but couldn't show it because his dad said he couldnt show anyone. He had also played Dead Island 2.
Since Dying Light came along I simply haven't cared about this at all. Hopefully Techland are working on a sequel to that because I very much doubt DI2 will ever deliver.
@THRILLHOU
There's a cheat code you can put into GTA V to get it to work in VR and you get unlimited jetpack.
Frankly, I look forward to the re-announcement of Hellraid a lot more than either dying light 2 or dead island 2.
@Rudy_Manchego Someone's a GOLDBERGS fan too!!!
Back to the point, I've been looking forward to this, as I actually enjoyed the Dead Island title...even bought it again on PS4. Kind of looking forward to what they'll do in this one, as I believe it was the Beach-theme that got me interested in it. Haven't played Dying Light, but after reading a few comments, it must be a pretty decent horror title.
@get2sammyb I bet you also played Kingdom Hearts 3 too, right?!!!!
@THRILLHOU No it was at an event once, I think EGX. It was playable and I even did an interview on it.
That was when it was being made by... The Spec Ops people.
@get2sammyb hehehe,The Spec ops people? Didn't know they are also devs..
This is one game that can stay in development hell and stay in it imo.
@get2sammyb Wouldn't Riptide be considered Dead Island 2?
I always considered Dying Light a true successor to the Dead Island games. I'd much rather see a sequel to that.
I was quite interested in this at the time., but Dying light scratched the itch for me. So it will have to be something special when it comes out (if it comes out)
@CountFunkula78 In school there was a rumor that if you beat Legend of Zelda ten times in a row, the world would completely change. New dungeons, new layouts, new hidden areas, the works.
I had a very strong feeling that was BS but I tried it anyway.
It was BS, but really I won because I played LoZ ten times in a row.
Hope sumo can go back to making awesome kart racers after.
@CountFunkula78 I Heard That. I unlocked the Delorean in GTA Vice City once but my ps2 is at my mum's so I can't show you .
@Rudy_Manchego I think I know that lad. Said he had an actual Cerberus but he'd just sellotaped a boglin on a pug. Lying get.
@Special_donky I quite like the idea of a bunch of highly trained soldiers just giving up this combat business and making a crap zombie game.
@Tasuki No, because it was called Dead Island: Riptide and not Dead Island 2.
As long as they put the story back in the game.
I liked the DI games quite a bit. They had their share of problems but i got really into their atmosphere etc. Never understood the hate for them. I have a feeling it wont hold up to dying light which is thevpinnicle of zombie games imo but im sure it will still be fun to play. Id buy it........ When i goes on sale.
@Tasuki Nah, Riptide was basically an expansion pack sold as a standalone game. Like Red Alert 3 Uprising.
