PREY didn’t get off to the best start in the UK sales charts, but it seems word of mouth – and the first proper batch of reviews – has perhaps helped the first-person shooter to fare better, as it’s leapfrogged Mario Kart 8 Deluxe to take the top spot this time. Grand Theft Auto V also climbed above Nintendo’s remastered racer, which finished in a podium position.
The remainder of the sales charts don’t need much discussion: Horizon: Zero Dawn continues to hover in ninth place, Persona 5’s restock has contributed to its ascent up to 32nd position, and Fallout 4 re-entered the best sellers list in 40th place. With the release calendar looking a little barren for the foreseeable future, don’t expect these articles to get interesting any time soon.

Mario Kart 8's Switch version is losing speed, despite what some Switch fans insisted. Prey rising above it after its launch week is telling. And not only Prey, but GTAV too.
Glad to see Prey at the top spot, enjoying the heck out of it so far. And great that Horizon: Zero Dawn is at no.9, awesome game.
@Mahe Switch is still pretty much sold out everywhere in the UK so MK8D probably already has a very high attachment rate. I would expect it to have a very long leg.
Glad to see Prey on the top, it absolutely deserves it.
Quite surprised at Prey been number 1, still hope that this style of game continues because they can offer quite compelling experiences. Also Horizon? What a success that has proved to be.
Just shows how a review can help with first week sales and even late pre-orders if its up in time.
Its no surprise that games like Mario Kart won't be able to sustain a long run at the top. Compared to the number of platforms that games like Prey are available for, its got a much greater potential. Nt saying games like Mario Kart and Zelda won't continue to sell as most people buying a Switch are likely to buy either/both but there are far more PS4, XB1 and PC gamers that 'could' buy games like Prey.
It's an achievement that two Nintendo games are even in the UK top ten best selling games tbh.
Game sale's are the lowest they've been for age's in the UK, that might explain why Nintendo are sneaking in and Horizon is still sniffing around and curiously, did P5 ever enter the top 40 in the UK again or are they still out of stock?! I've got one someone can have, £25.
In all honesty, if there wasn't such a big shortage of Switch systems, the sales would still be with Mario Kart at number one probably. Nintendo...once again...shorts with items again of their NEXT system (Gamecube with the memory cards in the past, Wii console all together, the Wii Remote until it became bundled with Wii Play). As I'd love to purchase a Switch (but waiting until the summer of 2018 probably), it still doesn't look that enticing.
As Prey goes, can't wait to actually purchase it, as I did love playing it on the 360 back in the days. Can't wait to see what the updated game looks and plays like!
@Mahe Going by how much the Switch has sold, Mario Kart 8 has probably been purchased by the vast majority of people who have the console in the UK right now. I don't think it being in third place after 3 weeks means what you think it means.
@JLPick This Prey has literally nothing to do with the last gen Prey apart from the name.
@Orpheus79V @Godsent In Japan, MK8 Switch sales also fell really quick, even though the attach rate is much lower than what Zelda has. It's probably the same in UK.
Let's face it: even most Switch owners didn't want this port, despite the game drought the system has had since launch.
@Lurker Thanks for the heads up...for some reason I thought it was a remaster of the original!!!! Is it any good compared to the first?
@JLPick I haven't play the original Prey, so it's hard for me to compare the two. From my understanding the first one was more of a classic FPS, while this is a Sci-Fi/horror with some shooter elements, taking place on a big space station, with a big emphasis on exploration, player freedom, various solution to the same problem etc. It seems like a spiritual succesor to System Shock and other games from the immersive sim genre.
You can always try the demo, but bear in mind it's doesn't seem like a good representation of the final game, according to the impressions I've read (many seemed to hate the demo and like the full game).
@Mahe MK8D will have sold more copies than Switch version of Zelda in Japan by next week..even though Zelda released nearly two months earlier.. I think you're underestimating the appeal of Mario Kart.. don't forget that MK8D sold a staggering 400k+ copies in the US on the first weekend..
@Godsent Staggering? Mario Kart Wii sold 1.2 million at launch, just in the US. And millions more worldwide. That's staggering.
@Godsent Here's what MK8 Switch has to compete against, worldwide:
Mario Kart 8 Wii U - 8 million and counting
Mario Kart 7 - 15 million and counting
Mario Kart Wii - 37 million and counting
Currently, MK8 Switch is falling short from all of those.
@Mahe Well, the Japan sales drop could probably be attributed to Golden Week, they probably burnt through most of that current stock during then. The comparison to other Mario Kart games isn't really fair, since the Switch is barely two months old and Deluxe is half that. MKW is a 9 year old game on the third highest selling console of all time.
Considering Mario Kart games sell over a very long period, I think it'll have to wait for Christmas to get a good grasp of how it's sold.
@Orpheus79V Did you see the news about the US sales? The sales plummeted there too, and only one day after launch.
I agree that long-term sales are a better indicator of success or lack of it, but Switch fans are desperate to call this a "success" without accepting that the sales will slow down even more over time.
