The summer is well and truly here, but there are no signs of any gaming droughts. That said, July's selection of PlayStation 4 titles makes for the shortest 'Promising PS4 Games' list that we've had to write all year. Let's hope that the phrase "quality over quantity" applies here.
That's You (PS4 Exclusive)
Publisher: Sony
Release Date: 4th July
With the PS4 already a firm fixture in the core gamers’ home, Sony’s now looking to the mainstream market to catapult the console to 100 million units. Enter the PlayLink line: a suite of software designed to be played with smartphones, removing the barriers of pesky DualShock 4 controllers. That’s You – the first game in the series – is an interactive ice breaker, where you’ll be snapping photos of your friends and family, responding to quiz questions, and exploring your inner-artist. It’ll also be free for PlayStation Plus members.
Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age (PS4 Exclusive)
Publisher: Square Enix
Release date: 11th July
A divisive release back in the day, Final Fantasy XII was like no other Final Fantasy before it. A battle system that essentially allowed the game to play itself and a huge, segmented world still stand as defining features alongside a story that's stuffed with political intrigue. The Zodiac Age brings the PS2 classic back to life with shockingly polished visuals and a slick new job system. Fans obviously can't wait to play it all over again, but will its enhancements be enough to draw in both newcomers and those who weren't enthused the first time around?
Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles (PS4 Console Exclusive)
Publisher: Prideful Sloth
Release date: 18th July
A tranquil open world title, Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles offers something a little different. It's already being compared to games like Harvest Moon and Animal Crossing, and there's definitely a hint of Zelda in there, too. You'll craft, fish, befriend animals, take on quests, and explore a gorgeous looking land all at your own pace. We actually interviewed developer Prideful Sloth about the release not too long ago, so feel free to give that a read if you're eager to learn more.
Fallen Legion (PS4, Vita Exclusive)
Publisher: YummyYummyTummy
Release date: 25th July
Fallen Legion is an attractive action RPG that boasts a branching story. Rather than grinding for experience points, combos and crazy attacks are the order of the day as you take control of up to four party members at once. The gameplay sounds pretty neat and the hand-drawn art style's a real eye-catcher - here's hoping that it turns out to be another must-have PS4 role-playing release.
Fortnite
Publisher: Epic Games
Release date: 25th July
Fortnite as a project has been on and off for what feels like an eternity - but it's finally launching next month. The game's all about scavenging resources during the day so that you can build reliable shelter for the night as monsters close in from all angles. Mental melee weapons and a whole range of guns mean that loot is a big factor, and naturally, you can team up with friends and attempt to survive as a group. Assuming its troubled development hasn't left the finished product full of holes, Fortnite should be good fun.
Pyre (PS4 Console Exclusive)
Publisher: Supergiant Games
Release date: 25th July
The latest title from Bastion and Transistor developer Supergiant Games, Pyre is yet another lovely looking project. An RPG with a strategic sounding battle system, the release comes across as a carefully crafted adventure - especially when you take its branching narrative into account. Indeed, the game promises no game over screen, so you'll have to learn to live with the consequences of your actions. Intriguing stuff.
July isn't quite the bumper month that was June, but it's still got some tasty looking games. What do you think of next month's selection? Vote for your most anticipated title in our poll, and then feed us your thoughts in the comments section below.

Really looking forward to Yonder. Looks like a game to relax to in the evenings after work. Will be a nice change in pace to the Witcher (Yes, I'm late to the party).
Interested to see how yonder turns out before I jump in but I'm def getting pyre because anything by super giant games is a day one I love their games. It is a slow month but that's alright gives me time to clear the backlog before the holiday season rush is upon us
I'm glad that July is fairly light. I've got a lot of catching up to do! Out of the games listed, I'm probably most intrigued by Pyre, but I doubt I'll be buying any games this month
Nothing for me this month, after I cancelled my Amazon preorder of FFXII. Think I got caught up in all the pretty graphics. Hated it then & I'm not sure a new paint job is going to change that.
Put the money towards Yakuza Kiwami instead. Same price & comes with the steel book.
I'd be more interested in Zodiac Age if I didn't have a massive backlog or RPGs to burn through already. Between Tales of Berseria, Valkyria Revolution, Dragon Quest Heroes 2, NeiR Automata, Yakuza 0, Wild Arms 3 & Arc the Lad via PS2 Classics and more, I don't got time for it now. I'm kind of interested in Fallen Legion since a) it looks like Grand Kingdom, which was fantastic and a game far too many people slept on completely, and b) the founder of Siliconera is working on that game. I like that site. He seems like a cool guy, and it seems like a really interesting game design, honestly. For example, the two versions of the game are different games. The PS4 Fallen Legion (Sins of an Empire) is different from the Vita one (Flames of Rebellion). But like nobody knows that! There's hardly any preview coverage on it, though - if it weren't for him chatting about it on Siliconera, I would've had it flying under my radar entirely, probably.

Generally though, July is a quiet month and I'm looking forward to NOT getting anything new probably and working on backlog games from earlier in the year, Crash N-Sane Trilogy, and various PC games from Steam and GOG's Summer Sales. 2017 is a great year for gaming, but a terrible year for actually finishing any games boy...
Interested in both Final Fantasy 12 HD and Fallen Legion since I'm a sucker for RPGs.
@TruthfulVoice Wait so both PS Vita and PS4 version are actually different? I didn't know that (sounds cool though. Reminds of the Pokemon games and Fire Emblem Fates). Any details you found about how different both versions will be?
I think I am going to take the plunge on final fantasy. 12 really didnt do it for me on initial release; but I will give it another try. Thank 15 for that. As much as it was messy in places, it did help me fall in love with the series once again.
Pyre looks good
FFXII is one of the few FF games I started but never finished (damn college!) so looking forward to correcting that defect.
Looking forward to ff12 again as I never finished it the first time around. With new job system I wonder if it will still have the license board and license points. Or will different jobs have different skills to unlock. I haven't really seen much on the new systems in the game. If anyone has a link to any info would be much appreciated. 😊
Rather interested in FF XII and Splatoon 2
Surprised that Super Cloudbuilt wasn't on the list. Also for anyone interested in Fortnight, you might want to know that the game is planned to go F2P in a year's time.
The family really loves party games like the Jackbox series, so That's You is a definite. Being free is an added bonus! The only question I have is the number of players it supports. Only four would stink.
Never heard of "Yonder" so I'm actually super interested in it.
@ellsworth004 not sure if this helps, but ign did a preview setting out some of the differences:

Can't wait for ff12 after the disappointing ffxv .
@Rob_230 thanks!
Weak month. That's okay though. Crash is here.
I've just bought Shadow of Modor GOTY edition from Amazon. The price was £13.61.
Immediately after I received an e-mail saying they had dropped the price to £13.60. With this and 75% of Horizon still to play, plus Arms and Everton Oasis I think I'll be good through July.
Can't wait for Pyre. I've been a huge fan of Supergiant Games since the incredible Bastion, and Transistor only made me love them more. They make phenomenal soundtracks especially.
Also looking forward to giving FF12 another go. I got it back on PS2 and though it didn't impress me at first I did get into it slowly. Having said that, I never did finish it so this time around I'll definitely be looking to see the whole story.
Great a quiet month. Now Ivone can focus on stormblood and finish persona and zelda . 2017 what great Year for games.
Cant believe the lack of fort nite hype!? Seems like it could be kind of a big deal imo.
