Trunks has been confirmed as a playable character in Dragon Ball FighterZ. The son of Vegeta appears in the latest issue of Jump magazine, meaning that there are now seven confirmed characters in the current roster: Goku, Teen Gohan, Vegeta, Frieza, Cell, Majin Buu, and Trunks. Oh, and we should point out that this is Future Trunks, not Kid Trunks or Trunks from an alternate timeline.
We're not expecting the finished release to have a huge character roster, but it'll still be interesting to see who makes the final cut. Are there any specific fighters that you're hoping to see? Collect the dragon balls and make a wish in the comments section below.

My favorite DBZ character! And the future Trunks is the best iteration!
Finally it is good that it is confirmed that I am in the game and also it is good that it is the future version of me.
This game will only have characters in the original manga right? No characters from movies or Super?
What characters do I want to see? All of them, clearly. I'd settle for Gogeta and Janemba though....
@shonenjump86 We don't know for sure yet, but it seems like the roster is focusing on main characters from core Dragon Ball Z.

Maybe the base roster will feature exclusively canon - DBZ characters, while the DLCs (you know they are coming) will allow you to pay (sorry : play) with movies characters. Like Broly.
Come on. Even I would pay for such a DLC. And I hate the concept of paying for a f... DLC.
