October was a pretty darn good month for PlayStation gaming. We gave out a bunch of high review scores, but as always, only one game can take home our coveted Game of the Month award. Without filling this opening paragraph with anymore fluff, let's get stuck right into it.
Bronze Trophy: Middle-earth: Shadow of War
It's the Nemesis System that made Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor really stand out when it launched back in 2014, and it's the Nemesis System that still shines bright in its expanded successor. Bigger and mostly better, Shadow of War is a really good action game. We gave it an 8/10 in our review, and said "In the barrage of blockbusters hitting PS4 over the next few months, Shadow of War should not be missed."

Silver Trophy: South Park: The Fractured But Whole
Fart jokes, hell yeah! South Park: The Fractured But Whole may be packed with stinkers, but the game itself is anything but. Reviewer John Cal McCormick gave the adaptation an 8/10, calling it "riotously funny from start to finish". John concluded: "The Fractured But Whole is practically everything you could want from a Stick of Truth sequel. And there's a bunch of fart jokes, too." Fart jokes, hell yeah!

Gold Trophy: Assassin's Creed Origins
Assassin's Creed has finally pulled itself together and delivered a game that's right up there with the best entries in the series. Isn't it amazing what an extra year or two in the oven can do? We're big fans of Origins, going as far as to say that it has one of the best open worlds that we've ever seen. Our review reads: "This the roaring return to form that the franchise desperately needed." We also find ourselves wanting to visit Egypt more than ever before, go surfing down some pyramids and that.

Platinum Trophy: Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus
Another great 2017 sequel in a long line of... Well, great 2017 sequels, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus presents a fantastic campaign shooter, complete with a stellar story, some brilliant characters, and more action than you can shake an axe at.
Reviewer Alex Stinton was on Nazi smashing duties this time around, and he awarded the bombastic blast-'em-up a impressive 9/10. "Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is a quintessential single player shooter, and contains one of the best campaigns in recent memory," Alex wrote. "While the story is undoubtedly the star of the show, the viscera drenched combat, satisfying weapons, and rewarding perk system more than hold up their side of the bargain. The single player game is dead, long live the single player game."

How we decide our Game of the Month: At the end of each month, the editorial team put together a list of nominees. Nominees must have been released within the month, and they must have been reviewed by Push Square. We select nominees based on our own review scores.
The editorial team then presents this list of nominees to the rest of the Push Square staff. Staff are asked to vote for three games that they think deserve to be crowned Game of the Month. First choice gets 3 points, second choice gets 2 points, and third choice gets 1 point. When voting closes, we tally the results to determine the order of this article. The game with the most points is our Game of the Month.

Dragon's Dogma was robbed, GOTM every month.
I still need to finish South Park. It's a good game but starts to drag towards the end.
AC Origins is an easy pick for me. Right up there with Horizon for GOTY IMO.
@ShogunRok Brilliant game and a great remaster. It would be my GotM if remasters are indeed allowed.
Having said that, Shadow of War (act 4 doesn't count, mkay?), South Park and Assassin's Creed have all been fantastic games, even if I haven't quite finished the latter 2. I would also consider GT Sport on its own merits because it is a great racing game. Its just a shame it doesn't live up to the GT name in terms of a career.
None of those, it was a very weak month and I'm very glad to own a Switch, which had an stellar month.
I choose assassin's creed origin, still waiting for the special steelcase edition available in playasia.
The Invisible Hours was the secret best game.
@Gatatog Yeah, Remasters are allowed, as are standalone expansions/DLC. Dragon's Dogma was one of our nominees, but it sadly didn't get enough votes to place in the top 4.
wolfenstein is amazing best fps this year
@get2sammyb Couldn't agree more!So far the only VR game I've gone back to every night just to try and plat it.Amazing game.
Besides I haven't played any of these games yet but every single one is on my Christmas/Birthday list
Wow. No love for Shadow of War in the poll. (I didn't vote for it either.)
AC origins hands down. It repayed me for the big disappointment of GT Sport
All I bought last month was Mario Odyssey. Everything else was a bit of a poor man's Splatoon IMO, although Wolfenstein looks pretty good.
The only one I played is South Park but I'm really enjoying it.
@KirbyTheVampire Wolfenstein was pretty good but the level where you paint the walls and turn into a squid felt a little derivative.
@Rudy_Manchego Ah, that's a bummer. No game has done pretty much anything as well as Splatoon yet.
I haven't played the ones above so Dragon's Dogma for me. Brilliant combat system with tonnes of weapons, armour, equipment and materials and not a loot box in sight.
At the risk of being banned I will say that my game of the month was on another system and was about an Italian Plumber and his journey
Well guess im going to get Wolfenstein, been trying to decide. Was looking at different versions of it. Has anyone played the dlc for it?
I'm not sure if it was better than Wolfenstein, but The Evil Within 2 definitely deserves a mention.
@ThroughTheIris56 I love Wolfenstein 1, number 2 is pretty great (on the last mission almost) but Evil Within 2 was actually better I'd say. I played them back to back and EW2 was just more interesting and fun.
Too busy with Odyssey to play any of these
I voted for Odyssey in the poll. Wolfenstein can wait for a discount/Switch port and Mordor can wait for the Goty edition, at a discount.
To be honest i've only put PS4 on to use Nowtv last month, all my gaming was on Switch last month. Might pick up ACO at some point if it gets heavily discounted but just lost interest in the series after previous efforts, got bored of Shadow of Mordor really quickly to bother with the sequel. Wolfenstein 2 sounds really good but as I can find so much more time to game on Switch I might wait and see how the port pans out.
I agree Odyssey is better than all of those games
i going to get wolf 2 on PC whenever i build one, that game was just killing my ps4 pro fan smh...
Assassin's Creed Origins is the best game of the month. And yes, I am counting Super Mario Odyssey in that list. Haven't touched SMO in weeks because of AC:O.
Only PS4 October release that I'm playing is Assassin's Creed Origins and fortunately any concerns I had were wiped away early. The year break led to a much better game, the combat changes were both necessary and well implemented. One of my favorite games of the year.
Extending out into other consoles my real pick for Game of the Month would be Super Mario Odyssey (will likely be my Game of the Year barring any late surprise releases).
Sigh, i didn't play any of these games, I have South Park but didn't start it yet. I want to buy Wolfenstein 2 soon, maybe AC as well, I need to wait a little bit to buy Shadow of Mordor and The Evil Within 2.
Wolfenstein all day!!!!! What a game. In the current climate for gaming we needed this, and in the current political climate even more so.
WORD UP SONNNNNNN
@KirbyTheVampire I DUNNO MAN I'D SAY GONE HOME GAVE SPLATOON A RUN FOR ITS MONEY.
@KirbyTheVampire how does that make any sense at all
@dark_knightmare2 I'm not being serious, lol. It's a joke.
@Johnnycide Heresy!
