One thing that PSX 2017 proved this weekend is that Media Molecule may want to invest in a new trophy cabinet. Dreams is clearly going to be showered in awards. Like for real, this game is going to break new grounds, so maybe get used to the idea now.
The thing is it’s just kinda… Mental? Take these two new videos, where members of the development team build an environment and a level in under ten minutes apiece. The ease with which you can experiment, concept, and create is unlike anything that’s ever been done before. The presenters may be familiar with the software, but you can see from the videos how intuitive it all is.
Making an Environment in Dreams
Creating a Level in Dreams
Extraordinary.

The more I see of it, the more I like it.
This means I can stop moaning about the games I don't like and make a better version myself.
Really looking forward to this one. Such a natural progression from LittleBigPlanet. I like that it's not been rushed out. The longer it's taken the more polished the final product. Great they've been given that freedom.
I think MM are a two team development team. Or at least one and a half. So some of the guys may have been working on this since LBP2. Pretty sure I remember some interview with one of the Devs years ago saying they had two games in development while they were working on Tearaway.
It does look nice. Level creation always kinda interested me. Despite that, I've never spent a ton of time with LBP. Hopefully I'll spend more time with this one.
It's awesome that this game has gone from "what the hell is that" to this. I'm definitely intrigued.
Woowwww! Im so into this! Gonna ve really exciting. I plan on creating many horror themed nightmares!
I hope you don't need the Move controllers to play. This looks like a ton of fun, but forcing people to use these controllers that many don't have will turn a lot of people away.
Just imagine the insane creations we're gonna see out of this!
Looks nice. Do you make your own playable character?
I'm freakin excited about this one! Making myself an rpg real soon with this!
@Dodoo That's what I was just thinking. Like it'll be fun to create your own things but I really look forward to seeing and playing what others with more creativity and time come up with!
I'm so interested in this now! I remember how I felt with the first LBP, I was so excited but then the building component was not intuitive, it had too many tutorials and I just couldn't force myself to understand all the systems...but this one seems so simple! And since it's 3d you can just do anything you want...a dream, a place you know, a movie scene, a game scene! It looks very promising
I'm watching an archived stream from PSX right now and it's really, really awesome. Absolutely can't wait to get my hands on it and try it all out for myself
@Octane Any games in mind that you'll redo?
Looks amazing - not normally my type of game but I just want to get it to support it and MM for really pushing something new.
@ExsMacaroni I don't know, but a single player Star Wars game sounds like a good start
@Scrummer You can do everything with a PS4 and DualShock 4.
@ExsMacaroni You can make everything, yes. Including the music, sound effects, art, assets... I mean, we could go on.
I really need to create something, i just need to stop being lazy.
This game is day one, it really looks incredible.
But gameplay wise I see the cute teddy bear holding on to a hammer, can I create enemies so I can use it against them.
Looks totally mental good! Day 1 for sure. Will be interesting though, to experience it in creation mode and see where the limits are. I remember LBP and the one plattformer I made, it hit the roof memory wise pretty easy. And this seems way beyond everything in LBP, but I guess a lot have changed since the PS3 days
@Morenoj1220 Yes.
Okay, I'm buying a PS4.
This is lbp on steroids.
Maybe it will be an award winner - maybe not. Its up against a lot of big games and seems a bit like Project Spark in some ways. Creative people will get more from it and its a game that should 'grow' over time as people create more content for it. It really depends on the content at (or just before) launch with the critics and their opinions. It could be a very different proposition 6-12months later.
I think its also going to be difficult to categorise - something else that may affect its chances at award shows. Its not like it will win Best RPG, sports, action etc game - at least not on what I have seen so far. That's not to say its a 'bad' game but difficult to categorise to be nominated.
Bob Ross. The Game.
Can't wait to miss with this!
@BAMozzy Oh I’m not even thinking about game awards. I mean software, tech, and art awards.
Book it.
@get2sammyb That makes more sense...
@get2sammyb Well that's a relief.
