It started at the beginning. Shawn Layden has become infamous for his t-shirts that hold subtle and not-so-subtle secrets, and he was at it again with PSX 2017 by zipping it up in a jacket. At the conference's end, he finally revealed that his apparel of choice for the night points toward a remaster of MediEvil, which will be coming to the PS4 (and PS4 Pro in 4K). Besides the briefest of glimpses at a skeleton grunt, no footage or release dates were revealed. Only the promise of "more details soon" has been guaranteed, but Layden might be implying over on the PlayStation Blog that it will be releasing sometime in 2018.
It seems that Activision and Sony are finally getting the ball rolling on reviving PlayStation classics with the success of the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. With this announcement in particular, it also confirms Sony was listening long before fans' more recent, louder pleas for a remaster of MediEvil. Spyro the Dragon Trilogy next?

I love medievil , the PSP game was awesome. I truly believe Sony could sell PS4 consoles on just exclusives . Their current lineup & coming soon is amazing.
First console game I ever bought! I'm sooooooooooooooo on board for this!
Just FYI this is the PSP remake that is getting the remaster treatment. The clip of the zombie coming at the camera was from that game.
Next, I want ctr and colony wars remastered with 4k, 60 fps, and vr support for the ps4 pro.
Yes this was a great game on the original PlayStation. If it is like the crash remastered games then it will be good.
OH MY GOD..
So, what's next? Gex? Croc?
...a certain purple dragon?
So I take it Sony watched Sir Daniel Fortesque beat out Clementine in the UPSCT & thought ''we gotta cash in on that''.
Looking forward to see more.
I'm really happy with this announcement because I will finally play Medievil, always wanted it.
Medievil is one of the games that I wanted, would like to play Syphon Filter, Legend of Dragoon, etc. as well.
Spyro trilogy games still are three of my favorite games ever.
Sony should never let Spyro and Crash Bandicoot leave.
niiiiiiiiceeeee
Would absolutely love a G-Police remake, that was superb on PSone.
I never played Spyro but there are so many crying out for a remaster I'd be surprised if it doesn't happen eventually.
Was hoping for a new entry, but this is still Day one purchase for me.
Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't this leaked a while back, like a long time ago but we never got a reveal?
Hoping that they actually take notes from Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy, and not from Parrapa the Rapper HD. I like mediEvil but man, the gameplay aged pretty bad, and I don't think remastering the PSP port is going to help much (though 60fps could make it a bit worthwhile since the framerate in the PSP port was terrible).
@SoulsBourne128 Yeah, I think this should be more in line with the Crash remakes rather than the likes of PaRappa Remastered.
Really looking forward to seeing more of this. MediEvil isn't a PlayStation series I'm super familiar with, but it's exciting to see Sir Dan on PS4 all the same
oh yes.my boy sir Daniel fortesque.I l💖've this game.can't wait to play it worddd uppp sonnn
@PS_Nation syphon filter is the best best ps1 game ever
@adf86 I've seen people say that but I doubt it, they probably just used that for the trailer.
Here's what the PS Blog says: "Hot on the heels of this year’s smash hit Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, we’re making another PlayStation fan dream come true: a proper, PS4-grade resurrection of the original MediEvil just in time for the game’s 20th anniversary."
Doesn't sound like a PSP up-res to me. Would be disappointing if that's the case — I can't imagine PSP assets holding up very well in 4K at all.
Nice one. I never played it back in the day but was close to picking it up on PS1 recently (and still will hopefully early next year).
This is awesome...let the nostalgia reign supreme.
Thank you, Sony.
Yes, I've been waiting for it! Now, let's bring Spyro, Croc, Gex, Ty The Tasmanian Tiger, Tak And The Power Of Juju and some other great platform trilogies too! Also, any news on a new Twisted Metal yet or an ATV Offroad Trilogy yet? Come on Sony!!!!!!
@get2sammyb The Loco Roco and Patapon games looked pretty good in 4K! I'd honestly love to see some more PSP games come over to the PS4...thought it was happening on PS3 when the hot shots golf game was re-released for it
@get2sammyb Well we'll see but after Parappa the Rapper was remastered using the PSP version I'm more inclined to believe they will do the same here.
@adf86 Yeah I guess it could happen. PaRappa's gameplay makes that an easier conversion to make, though — not sure how it'd work with Medievil.
Guess we'll have to wait and see.
Crash Team Racing and Spyro. I'll be good for a while with those.
I hope they port both games.
Nice work Sony!
It's good to see that these dormant franchises are getting some love these days. I've never played MediEvil, so I'm happy to get a chance to try it.
If only Sega could do this too. I want Jet Set Radio Future and Streets of Rage back badly.
I'm not particularly looking forward to this. I think it's a little hard to get excited about these old franchises returning when it's often just a remaster/remake instead of a new entry in the series.
On the other hand, a Spyro trilogy remake would still be a day one purchase for me...
Brilliant. This was one of the unsung heros of the PSX era. I mean it was genuinely funny, and like a Tim Burton meets Terry Pratchett halloween special. Glad to see they are keeping the mumbling Sir Fortesque intact (as opposed to the talking one in the not-so-good Medievil 2). Part of the humour was that we could not understand him, but everyone else could, despite missing a bottom jaw. Looking forward to this one.
@Storytime7 Aren't you complaining about the same thing you state you would purchase "day one"? Confusing, but I do agree, Spyro done right would be a nice addition to the remastered retro library. Spyro was whored out to some really lousy games time and time again. The charm of the originals were lost.
@adf86 @get2sammyb noooo way its the psp remake
@Party_Cannon I'm saying that, even though I dislike when old franchises are only brought back with remasters instead of new games, I could make an exception for Spyro because I like the original trilogy that much.
@JLPick T'ai Fu: Wrath of the Tiger too.
@PS_Nation Forgot about that one...I also enjoyed Vexx, Dr. Muto and I Ninja too! The Kao The Kangaroo ones were enjoyable too! It's a shame we don't get many platforms anymore. Even most of the Dreamworks and Disney ones of the past were fun too. Madagascar and Aladdin were my favorites.
@Storytime7 The thing is Sony won't realistically know if there's a demand for a new entry because it's been so long, at least now their letting people put their money where their mouth is.
