When you think of Platinum Games, you think of fast, fluid action titles and flamboyant style. However, in a recent interview with Game Informer, head of development Atsushi Inaba spoke about the studio's search for new projects, and among them were some unexpected possibilities.
When asked about where the studio was looking for inspiration for new games, Inaba said that he doesn't want to surprise fans by, for example, "doing a princess-clothing-making game, or something like that". Naturally, it was suggested that Platinum Games does pursue a game like that, to which Inaba replied: "You know, as we got down to the selection process, there was actually a game that was kind of in that direction, but when we made the final round picks, it was just like, yeah, this one's not going do it [laughs]."
The interview also sheds light on what the constantly-busy studio will be focusing on in the near future, with Inaba revealing that it wants to develop its own, original IP independently from any publisher. The firm's now at a point where it has two designs in mind for future games, and by the sounds of it, these will be developed on a similar scale to something like Hellblade.
That's not to say Platinum Games won't still be working on AAA titles for other publishers, though. "First off, we will continue to do AAA games for other publishers and that’s because, again, we don’t have the cash flow to take on the risk to only do self-published games." It seems it's going to keep just as busy, then, but with a new focus on forging its own path with its very own original titles.
What would you like to see from an all-new Platinum IP? Would you have enjoyed a princess clothing making game from one of the top action game developers in the world? Parry each other's thoughts in the comments below.

I wish they would've made a princess clothing making game. That sounds great.
@get2sammyb Yeah, really gotta second this point. I would spend every waking moment cultivating S ranked outfits.
@k_andersen @get2sammyb There is definitely a shortage of princess clothing making games in the market. Endless opportunity.
... imagine the microtransaction possibilities. They’re sitting on a gold mine there. 😂
Platinum confirmed to be working on Princess Maker sequel.
Until then welp I’m ready for Bayonetta 3
A missed opportunity.
A princess clothing gme made by Platinum Games? Sounds weird, yet intriguing...
WTF
It still would've kicked ass!
Sony should talk to Platinum and make Vanquish 2 exclusively on PS4.
Nintendo has Bayonetta and Sony should have Vanquish.
I welcome anything new by them. Or a sequel to W101.
I wonder what platforms they will make them for? After Scalebound you kind of think that their new games will be just be for PlayStation and Nintendo (console-wise anyway).
So like style savvy?
