Rockstar has been tight-lipped about its upcoming Western action game Red Dead Redemption 2. Aside from a couple of trailers and a handful of screenshots, few details have been made available. There are obvious things we can glean from the released material, but we are really in the dark on the game's specific features.
Today, Trusted Reviews has reported it received documents regarding the title way back in August 2017, but withheld releasing the information until it was sure the details were accurate. The report includes details on multiplayer, side activities, gameplay features, and more.
Most notable is that the online aspect is sounding very meaty. We figured Rockstar would employ an approach similar to GTA Online, and that appears to be the case. You'll be able to explore the full open world when online, and can purchase tents - the equivalent of GTA V's apartments. Interestingly, some multiplayer modes described include a Battle Royale mode, which we can only assume will play similarly to PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds or Fortnite. There will also be Revive and Survive, where you can revive teammates within a time limit, and Money Grab, which sees teams competing to retrieve sacks of cash from a central point.
Elsewhere in the report, we learn that a number of gameplay mechanics will return, such as Dead Eye and the morality system. There are also details on vehicles, a first person mode, horse riding challenges, fishing, crafting, and plenty more besides.
We can't be certain that this report holds any water, but it all sounds very plausible to us. We'll of course keep you updated on any new details as they emerge. You can take a look at the report for yourself through here.
What do you make of all these alleged details? Do you want a Battle Royale mode in Red Dead Redemption 2? Lasso your thoughts in the comments below.

Sounds amazing if true. Hope it controls well.
Paint Your (band)Wagon
First-person mode sounds good
Never liked RDR's MP and won't be buying RDR2 for MP either - its purely a SP game for me!
@get2sammyb well, it's a Rockstar game, so don't hold your breath for that
Horse riding challenges?! OH BOY!!
... omg ... now we get a whole load of battle royal games .. rolleyes
Wow, if Fortnite was building a rival option to PUBG, then RDR2 will have them both quaking in their boots
Cowboys...
...can't muster any interest in this at all. Never bothered with the first game, won't be bothering with this either. And that's before I even consider "purchasing" tents and other microtransactions.
I'll see how heavily it leans on the online and mtx before buying. Loved the first one but gta online is like purgatory for mountain dew Dorito bois.
I'm not really interested in the multiplayer games but I'm looking forward to see what Rockstar do with the money making schemes in RDR Online. It's easy to splash dollars in GTA Online on luxury cars, bikes, houses, planes and choppers but most of that stuff won't be in Red Dead. Owning saloons and ranches would be cool.
This is why I'm not really that excited about this game or any of their future games to be honest.It sounds like this is going to be multiplayer focused as much as Grand Theft Auto 5 has become.Sure I enjoyed the multiplayer on Red Dead Redemption for a bit of fun for half an hour,if that, but it's the single player of games that will always come first.
@Paranoimia RDR made me like the Wild West. Had no interest prior. It's really good. You should try it!
@kyleforrester87 Nope, sorry. Absolutely can't stand anything to do with it.
@Paranoimia don't be sorry bud, it is unfortunately your loss in my humble opinion, but perhaps you'll give it a whirl in the future.
@kyleforrester87 Highly unlikely, but hope you enjoy it all the same.
I'm already sick of the battle royale genre.
I'm always more interested on the single-player mode and I was expecting a great narrative like the first game. Like I said it before, I really hope that the main focus is the single-player and not multiplayer, but I'm afraid that it's not gonna happen.
Seriously, GTA V really deserved a single-player dlc, but Rockstar only focused on multiplayer.
@BAMozzy
The only worry here, is how much single player content will there be? It's obvious Rockstar is going in a more multiplayer direction after the success of GTA Online. Which is whatever, I get it from a business perspective, but I have a bad feeling the campaign could be lacking.
@Gamer83 I doubt that Rockstar would neglect its Single Player as that has been their speciality. I know some really enjoyed the MP of RDR but the majority of talk and what put that game on the pedestal was the SP. This is pretty much the only real mention of MP and that's just a rumour.
RDR is a game that people will buy primarily, if not exclusively, for its Single Player. A lot may stick around for its MP but I would be very surprised if people would buy this primarily as an MP game. Rockstar must know that too and by building a 'great' SP, they will get a lot of sales and if their MP is robust, a lot of those would stick around too. If the SP is poor, that will have a knock on effect to its MP population. Its not like CoD or Battlefield where a large percentage will buy the game exclusively for MP - I know a small portion will buy for the campaign primarily and a lot will buy for both. Maybe somewhere down the line, people will buy RDR2 for its MP because of friends etc but initially, the SP will be the draw - at least that's what I think...
@BAMozzy
Well, I guess my concern is that Rockstar pretty quickly left us single player people out in the cold with GTA V. It actually shouldn't have to be either, or, as Rockstar is a good enough developer to do both well but with the big push by almost everybody towards multiplayer these days and what happened with the extra content in GTA V being online only, I do wonder which type of gamer is going to be catered to more. That said, haven't been let down by too many recent games this company so maybe it deserves the benefit of the doubt for now.
@Gamer83 I thought GTAv had a robust SP and by all accounts, better than 4. Okay so they may have not supported the SP post launch and focused on GTA Online with add-ons etc but that's not surprising. You hope that the SP is solid enough to stand on its own without the need for DLC etc. Maybe with RDR2, they will bring back Zombies but I never expect additional campaign content post launch myself.
If you don't want or enjoy MP, then chances are you won't be wanting or forced into buying extra MP content. After the campaign is finished, most people will move on and its those left playing the MP that are targets for additional revenue streams. They could offer a few hours of extra content I guess but they are catering more to those who are continuously playing, those that are pumping more money into the game (or at least more likely to).
@BAMozzy
GTA V has an awesome campaign, but I thought there would be some more stories that could be told, similar to Episodes From Liberty City for GTA IV. I guess we'll see what happens. I'm sure RDR 2 will have a great campaign, I just hope they don't skimp on it in favor of a multiplayer focus.
@Wazeddie22 I am more about the single player side too. However, I think it is not fair to say GTA 5 sacrificed SP for MP. It had a 30+ hour SP campaign. Yes, the after launch focus became about MP, but they certainly built a quality and lengthy SP experience. I believe it will follow a similar pattern with RDR2.
1st person mode YES! i honestly wish EVERY game let you switch freely. It felt a bit off in gtav though, i hope since they are building this game from the ground up with 1st petson mode from the start theyre able to make it feel smooth and precise like a modernday shooter
@Bluetrain7 yep you are right,the campaign of GTA 5 was a good and lengthy single player experience,but then when GTA online released it became all about the multiplayer and no single player dlc at all.And it has been constant support for the online version ever since.I'm sure this RDR 2 will have a good single player experience I'm just worried it will be a shorter campaign or somehow connected with the multiplayer.
@Wazeddie22 I definitely agree. I would love to see single player DLC content after launch like Undead Nightmare. There is a market for it. Unfortunately, often the reality is that a focus on a persistent online mode is more profitable in the long run especially with the huge production and marketing budgets that these AAA games typically involve. Rockstar has been wise enough to keep the two modes largely separate (unlike Ubisoft) so I hope they continue the trend. I am right there rooting with you for the single player mode as a lengthy campaign with post-launch support.
I have zero interest in multiplayer, here's hoping Rockstar will also release story DLC for RDR 2.
